Cool device but grainy playback video
Great for sky gazing and field watching. Don’t be fooled about the 4k though because when you play back the recordings on the device or a pc, it looks like terrible and is extremely grainy. So bad it looks like 640x480

I really wanted to like this night vision device, but after using it for a few days, I’m quite disappointed. For a product that costs around $220, the performance is far below expectations. The image is extremely grainy with a lot of noise, even in areas with some ambient light. The overall clarity is very poor, making it hard to distinguish details. I tried adjusting all the settings, but nothing improved the blurry and noisy image. The build quality is decent, but that doesn’t make up for the weak performance. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this product if you’re looking for clear and reliable night vision. It’s just not worth the price. ... show more

Brochure says 3940 feet—budget for less
The listing for this Night Thunder X1 does not lack confidence: true 4K, 3940 feet, full-color photo and video, app control, and a 64GB card in the box. I read that twice before treating any of it as a measurement. What you actually ordered is digital night vision with an infrared illuminator, not thermal. The card is a real plus, because you are not shopping for storage the same night you want pictures. The range number is a ceiling from the brochure. Weather, trees, and how hard the IR is working will shrink it, and that IR glow is visible to anything else looking back. Menus and an app are features until you need them in the dark, at which point they are homework. Three stars for a gadget that includes the card and does not pretend to be a rifle scope. Charge it and learn the buttons somewhere with a porch light first. If you need to identify something at a third of a mile of pure dark, this is the wrong category. ... show more

If you’re looking to find satellites and other moving objects in the night’s sky, I’d recommend investing in 3rd generation, military grade night vision goggles. You’ll get a wider, sharper, more expansive view of the night’s sky. HOWEVER, if you’re wanting to watch and/or record night animal activity in a forest, for example, these goggles offer EXCELLENT VALUE for money.
