I'm using this on a Minn Kota C2-40 trolling motor, mounted on my kayak. It was an easy install and does what it's supposed to do. It gives me better steering control and helps keep my kayak straight or helps turn when motoring or paddling. Helps tracking a bit in windy conditions. It's stainless steel and no plastic pieces - which I like. I'm in freshwater all the time, not salt. Stays in place and seems like it will last. Been using it for 2 months - 6 trips on the water so far.

I wanted to enhance steering on my kayak & thought this might do the trick--with some modifications of course since it's intended to be mounted to a trolling motor. I have the Magellan Angler Pro 10.6' kayak & the rudder is only about 3 to 3.5 inches wide. I was always frustrated with the slow turn response so I looked for replacement beavertail style rudders. Found some available but customer support for the Magellan verified that they wouldn't fit this kayak's rudder placement area. A company does make a universal attachment for type of rudder that slides onto bottom of the rudder, but I wanted more surface space. This attachment was half the price of the universal attachment & about doubled the surface area. I cut off the prefabricated clamps, drilled some holes for the brackets & stainless steel locking bolts I used, & presto; it attached nicely & without issue. I had my kayak on the water this past Friday & was extremely pleased at how well it improved steering--even in the wind--while using my pedal drive or my paddle. I even got immediate steering response while allowing the kayak to drift. So pleased with this hack🙂!

I’m always skeptical when a product says “fits most” and I knew my 65lb thrust Newport vessels has a pretty thick shaft if you catch my drift. Anywho it was kinda a pain to get all the bolts aligned but after cranking them all down, the rudder doesn’t move and still gives me better tracking on my classic accessories Colorado pontoon boat. Not a bad purchase by any means, if you’re in the market for a rudder this isn’t a bad pick.

Easy installation was my first observation. Also, being metal and plenty heavy, it should last longer than the trolling motor that I put it on. Unfortunately I haven't put it in the water yet but, I have no doubt that it will function as advertised. I am well satisfied with this product.
