Description

Portable Close-Coupled Cooling with Customer-Inspired Upgrades for Better Performance award-winning SRCOOL12K, now in its second generation, is a portable, compact, self-contained air conditioning unit designed for server rooms, small network closets, back offices and other areas with heat-sensitive network switches and servers that facility air conditioning can’t reach. Design improvements based on customer feedback include upgraded commercial- grade components designed to last longer, including an upgraded hot air exhaust fan. The SRCOOL12K Gen 2 also boasts robust packaging for better protection from shipping damage and an updated two-year warranty. 12,000 BTU of Cooling Power Protects Your Equipment Against Hazardous High Heat This SmartRack® server room air conditioner pumps 12,000 BTU (3.5kW) of cooling into your IT environment to help prevent shutdowns, malfunctions and other failures caused by overheating or fluctuating temperatures. It uses environmentally friendly R410A refrigerant to comply with worldwide standards. An easy-to-read control panel with diagnostic LEDs provides convenient local management. Rack/Spot AC Unit Focuses Cold Air Where It’s Most Needed Close- coupled air-conditioning delivers cold air near heat loads to discourage recirculation and increase energy efficiency. An included 71-inch flexible hose lets you aim the cold air to a specific spot, such as an overheated server rack or an equipment hot spot. Hot air exits through a window or drop ceiling via an included exhaust kit. An upgraded hot air exhaust fan maintains effectiveness even under a high heat load. The unit also dehumidifies and filters the air, providing better air quality that can enhance operating conditions and equipment reliability. Commercial-Grade Components for Reliable Performance With a 100-percent duty cycle, the SRCOOL12K can run continuously without costly downtime. It uses copper tubing that is stronger than the aluminum tubing used in most consumer cooling units. The copper allows higher pressures and better weld joints to stand up to the constant vibration of the running compressor. Built-In Evaporator Ensures No Water Collection Tank to Empty The evaporator expels the condensed water through the directional exhaust duct, eliminating the need for a drain tube, drain pan or water collection tank and saving you time and money. No external condenser, refrigerant piping or professional maintenance is required for simple operation. Upgraded firmware allows the compressor to cycle on and off while the evaporator fan stays on to prevent icing in high-humidity environments. Add an Optional Remote Management Accessory for 24/7 Monitoring and Control Install the optional SRCOOLNETLX network module (sold separately) to monitor temperatures, receive alerts, review logs and control settings from anywhere, anytime, via SNMP, web browser, SSH, telnet or command line interface. The built-in LX Platform’s PowerAlert® Device Manager provides a single interface to cycle the connected air conditioner on and off, adjust its fan speed, change its target set point temperature and switch to dehumidification mode. Designed for Simple Plug-and-Play Installation by Almost Anyone The self- contained SRCOOL12K requires no disruptive installation projects or costly service calls from plumbers or HVAC specialists. It rolls on four casters into a compact 12 x 20 inch area. The 6-foot power cord’s NEMA 5-15P plug with leakage current protection connects to a standard AC outlet. The unit is programmed to restart automatically after power failures, and a built-in timer allows unattended shutdown and startup. An upgraded motor-start capacitor with a larger capacity ensures a dependable startup. 2-Year Warranty The SRCOOL12K is backed by a robust 2-year warranty, ensuring reliability and performance. Note: 2-year warranty available in U.S. and Canada only. One-year warranty available elsewhere.

  • Effective Cooling Solution for Small Server Rooms
Style: Spot Cooler
I installed this Tripp Lite SRCOOL12K Spot Cooler in our 11x11 ft server room, which houses multiple servers, an NVR, several network switches, an alarm panel, and various physical access security systems. Our space was running hot, and this unit has made a significant difference. Pros: Cooling Performance: Impressive cooling power - dropped our server room temperature by about 11 degrees within the first 1-2 hours Installation: Setup was straightforward and manageable for anyone with basic technical skills Noise Level: Despite some older reviews mentioning noise issues, I found it reasonably quiet for a portable AC unit (and it does have a quiet mode) Build Quality: Solid construction that inspires confidence for long-term use Cons: No Included Network Monitoring: Lacks built-in SNMP/network monitoring capabilities, and the add-on card costs nearly 1/3 of the unit's price Exhaust Solution: The included ceiling kit works but could be more elegant for professional installations without restricting down the exhaust size. Installation Notes: The unit comes with an adequate exhaust hose and adapter for drop ceilings. While the included plenum adapter would likely work fine, I opted to cut a hole and route the exhaust hose directly through our drop ceiling into an open warehouse space. I'm planning to install a through-wall duct attachment later for a cleaner appearance. Power Considerations: Make sure you have a dedicated 15A circuit available - this isn't something you can just plug into any outlet when it's working hard. Additional Purchase: I invested in the 3-year extended warranty through Asurion based on previous positive experiences with their service, primarily to avoid dealing with manufacturer warranty processes. Bottom Line: If you need serious cooling for a small server room or network closet, this unit delivers effective results. The lack of included network monitoring is disappointing at this price point, but we're working around that with our existing environmental monitoring system. Overall, it's a solid solution for keeping critical equipment from overheating without going to the complexity or expense of a mini split. ... show more

  • Very powerful unit but not for home use
Style: Spot Cooler
My office is upstairs facing West with approximately 1500 watts of equipment heat that needs cooling. On triple digit days, like we've been having here for the past couple weeks, my office will never get below 85-90 with the central AC alone. So I must have supplemental cooling. I've been using an LG 12000 BTU (LP1200dxr) unit since 2010, and it's a wonderful unit, and can cool my office down to a crisp 60 deg, even during triple digit weather. But we needed it for another upstairs room, where the kids sleep, since the LG is very quiet it made sense to move it to that room. So I went shopping for a new unit for my office. :) I almost purchased another consumer unit, but I ended up with the Tripp Lite SRCOOL12K for a couple reasons. 1. The cool air duct for spot cooling 2. I plan to use it in either a dedicated equipment room or garage in next house, and this unit seemed more suited for those environments. Initial Thoughts... The Good - Unit looks good and blends in well with modern office equipment - I like the orientation of unit and placement of the cool air vent and exhaust hose. - Dual air filters are great. My old LG unit only had a single air filter, and the inner radiator would always need a lot of cleaning at the end of the season. I have a feeling this Tripp Lite unit will be lower maintenance. - VERY powerful cooling. My LG unit was also 12000 BTU, but this Tripp Lite feels much more powerful. It seemed to cool down my office in half the time, and the spot cooling has enough air flow that it could double as a weed blower. The Bad - Lack of remote control is a bummer. Especially given the way the fan works see below) - The unit is VERY loud! After an hour I have a headache from the noise this thing makes from about 6 ft away. This is not something you will want to use in a space where people are working, and definitely not where people are sleeping. Of course, it isn't marketed for that either. - The Fan never turns off. Given the performance of the unit, I could probably live with the noise, while its cooling, but the fan never stops, ever... Even in quiet mode, the unit is unbearably loud. If the fan would cycle off, or at least have a slow, whisper mode then it would be acceptable. But even on the lowest fan setting you will go deaf having this thing in the same room with you. This is where a remote would have at least been handy to turn the unit off to help control noise. Don't get me wrong, I think this is a great unit. It does exactly what it was meant to do, and is everything that it's advertised to be. I can see putting this unit in a server room, or garage, or similar location that would ruin a less capable (albeit quieter) consumer unit. And I will probably keep it for that, as that's the long term plan anyway. This is a powerful portable air conditioner that cools great. I just wouldn't recommend it for home use, or for spaces close to people working in a quiet environment. ... show more

  • OK but if I had it to do over I'd keep looking
Style: Spot Cooler
I purchased this in May 2016 to cool a small 14 x 6 server room that has two ThinkServers and a few switches -enough heat buildup to be a issue but not enough to expect cooling to be a major problem. The first unit died in about 3 months, and Tripp Lite support was kind enough to ship a replacement unit. This cost me $50 in shipping & a week without cooling but I did learn some things which may help you. First, while speaking to tech support, I found out that this unit is only designed to run 4-6 hours per day. That could be a problem when it's 100 degrees outside, the office A/C is off for the weekend, your servers are spewing heat, and the temp is set to 65 on the SRCOOL12k. Lesson: The office A/C is still going to have to take on the majority of the cooling work. Second lesson. I had the first unit set to "high" and the thermostat set about 4 degrees cooler than the office A/C. I assumed it would cool down & then run intermittently after that. I was wrong. It ran constantly. I believe the issue is that it exhausts so much air from the room that it is constantly sucking in warmer air from the office & can never get ahead of itself. I now have the fan set to low & it seems to be doing a much better job. Third lesson. If you live in an area where humidity is a problem, run the hose. We bought into the marketing that this would evaporate the humidity in the exhaust. It overflowed on the weekend & made a mess. After that we ran a drain hose & it's worked well since. Fourth lesson. The SNMP module for this thing made it a lot more complicated than it was worth. Even after you get past the fact that you need an old in-secure version of java to run it, it seems to get confused. Simple is better. I removed the SNMP kit & am just letting it run with the front panel controls. I'll find another gizmo to monitor the temp & alert. Last recommendation: based on the first one dying after 3 months, buy the extended warranty. I considered numerous residential/commercial air conditioning units but went with this one because it seemed to be designed for the IT environment. I therefore assumed that it would offer better reliability & better controls than the other A/C units, especially with the SNMP module. I was wrong. I have other Tripp Lite equipment that works well but this is tarnishing the brand. I believe I would have been as well off or better off with one of the $400 units from the big box home improvement store. Summary: When it works it works acceptably well. Documentation is average at best. Some best practices/scenarios would really have helped. Support was good. If you are cooling racks there is likely value in the tubing that they provide to duct air into the rack. If you are just cooling a room like me you can likely get more cooling for your buck with a standard air conditioner. *** Update *** The replacement unit died in September 2017. No one fixes them, the factory warranty was over so I filed a claim on the extended warranty. Kudos to Square Trade, they don't fix them either but they did issue a check for the purchase price. I bought another room air conditioner at the local home improvement store for a couple hundred dollars less than this unit. Frankly the new one is doing a better job of cooling. We'll see if it lasts longer. ... show more

  • Great Product--so far
Style: Spot Cooler
We have a precision machine shop that is not air conditioned. So, we bought one for each of the employees and exhaust directly back into the shop because we are only keeping the individuals cool. There has only been the one hot week since we bought these units, but they do work well. In the past we had rented larger units (in size but not capacity) that were much more awkward--but did not outperform these much smaller units. We can put them right next to the individuals so they are quite effective. In measuring their efficacy, I measured that they were putting out 58° and exhausting 110° (F). So far, for this short period, they have been effective and performed as described on Amazon. Also, as Prime member, they were delivered in the two days promised. I also have to add that one of the units was defective once we began to run it--it was making a scraping noise. (The fan wheel was broken and running out of round.) I filed out the Amazon form, and once notified had a replacement unit on site in two days. This was unexpected and outstanding performance. They also sent a truck to pick up the damaged unit which we had repackaged. ... show more

  • My review
Style: Spot Cooler
Okay.......heres a real review from a residential customer using it as a general A/C unit..... I've read some of the reviews that some said it was "too loud"...... you have to be effing kidding me!? I put it in our room and that thing hummed me right to sleep! It is FAR from loud. When someone said it was loud, I was legitimately concerned. Let me tell you now....... it sounds......LIKE A PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER!!!. LOL!! Some people and their comments. Okay, now down to the features. Its easy to use, setup was simple and out of the box. Love the accessories. Boxed and packaged very well. I do need to make some window fillers for it as again I am using it as a residential home use unit opposed to a server room unit, but this obviously doesn't hurt the rating. I tried two different setups my first day. 1) general cooling of the living room..... according to the thermostat it was 86*...... with the long vent tube, I just laid it across the carpet fully extended into the living room and it cooled that room down in 20 min.... Granted other rooms were still warm, but I do believe if you isolate a middle ground in the place (and you have a place to put the exhaust) then you have an opportunity for success. 2) I pushed it into the bedroom and it registered at that time 81* at night.........I set it to 70 while I was sleeping and in about 2.5 hours I had to get up and shut the damn thing off...... it was 70 degrees and I was cold. All in all I am happy with the purchase. Not happy with the price, but I do hope that it holds up for a few years. The biggest question is going to be it sitting. I live in California, can it sit idle without being run for a few months during the winter times? Most things break down by not being used. We will see, but all in all early test suggest it is a good unit. ... show more

  • Cool Quiet AC & Dehumidifier
Style: Spot Cooler
Bought it for tent living. Tests OK, removes about 1 gallon / hour of purified water from the air. Seems well built. Packed well in heavy box, but has coasters on the bottom and recessed handles on the unit make it easy to roll on a hard surface. My Jackery 1500 won't handle the compressor start (inductive current load) but a hefty RV battery + inverter should work -- that's on order. may add a "soft starter" common for RV AC enthusiasts. There is no annoying "thump" when the compressor kicks in so it may have "instant start?" One tip: The exhaust outlet hose gets HOT so keep it as short as possible or you have a heater & AC running in the same space. Ill probably wrap it in a reflective space blanket type of insulation for final install. There are other 1/2 price competitor units available, but this is the first one I have tried. ADDENDUM: Smelled that dreaded 'burning electrical smell' we all love to hate several weeks ago -- thought it was just a breaking in smell or overworked water pump after I found the drain hose clogged. Last night I expected it to work -- but pressing the power button did NOTHING! Very disappointed with this unit compared to my "TURBRO" Mobile AC. On troubleshooting found a loose female spade connector on the black (hot) wire from shore 120 VAC line that could likely caused a high-resistance burn on a 30 Amp relay. The 12 AWG wire expected to handle 15 AMPS? I'll check and then jump around that relay later and maybe get it to cool at least -- unless something else is wrong. Morel of this story? Read all "critical reviews" here; even if another website gives a product sterling praise. Buyer beware! ... show more

  • Easy to install and gets the job done.
Style: Spot Cooler
This air conditioner contains everything you need to cool a server closet. Before installing this unit the room that houses our IT gear would routinely reach 88 degrees, clearly not good for your equipment. After installing this unit the server room stays at a cool 67 degrees. Our server closet is about 200 square feet with one telco rack worth of equipment in it. It comes with all the necessary parts to vent the warm air and condensation to a dropped ceiling. Our dropped ceiling is about 12 feet above the floor, and there was still a few feet of pipe left. Do not install this unit without venting the hot air, your server room will overheat quickly! Once the exhaust vent is properly setup all you have to do is plug the unit in, turn on the power, set the temperature and wait a few minutes to watch the temperature drop. The other portable air conditioners I was looking at were not designed to vent to a dropped ceiling, this one is and it was exactly what I needed. Full disclosure, I have only been using this product for a few days. ... show more

  • I thought it best to drop the temp by at least 15-20 degrees
Style: Spot Cooler
For those considering this cooler, here is my experience. I purchased the unit and placed it into service in June of 2013. It was in a small electrical closet with no other cooling. The electrical panel in the closet kept the room at a steady 90+ degrees. As I was adding some networking equipment, I thought it best to drop the temp by at least 15-20 degrees. I installed this unit and left it running fulltime on auto so it cycled as needed, dumping the exhaust air above the suspended ceiling. After a 14 months the unit failed. I contacted Tripplite for support and was told the unit was outside of warranty however they would honor it and send me a direct replacement. On the phone the tech advised me that this unit should only be used for auxiliary cooling, however nothing in the sales information indicates that, simply that it is for 'spot cooling'. Going forward I will be adding a cold air dump into that closet, however the unit and the company both did an admirable job and as a result I will be looking to Tripplite's products first in the future. ... show more
