Description

Our guitars offer portability without compromise, and the Pro-Series Mod-X Guitar is no exception. The Pro-Series Mod-X’s proprietary In-Body Tuning System has standard tuning built into the body, eliminating the need for a headstock. The Pro-Series is equipped with an acoustic piezo pickup and dual- rail humbucker pickup (which you can use independently or blend together) and a standard ¼” output jack. Pro-Series Mod-X has a 3-way pickup selector and plugs into your favorite amp, recording device, or headphone amp so that you can practice anyplace, anytime. This full 24.75" scale travel guitar only weighs 4 lbs. 1 oz. and is 28” long (32.3" with removable arm support), making it 17% shorter and 58% lighter than a typical full size guitar. I love this little guitar! I play mostly on my office chair so I'm next to my computer screen for tabs and videos etc. My chair has fixed arm rests, which makes playing any regular guitar uncomfortable to impossible quickly, depending on body style. No problem with this little wonder! I don't use the arm rest in this case (I do on couch or other chair) and everything fits perfectly. My practice amp is a small Fender Mustang GT and this guitar sounds great through it. I don't miss not having a tone control, since I can just reach down and adjust on the amp if necessary, but rarely do. The acoustic setting sounds really nice and full, the mix between both pickups adds a nice crunch and the electric pickup also sounds great, split or not. The low weight is great, the non existing head stock prevents me from sweeping things off my desk, tuning is easy and the guitar stays in tune no problem. I'm not a pro, just play for my own fun, but the included gig bag is quite nice and everything fits great (though it would be nice if it were just an inch wider so the leg rest part can stay attached for playing) and when I travel and decide to take a guitar with me I have a little Blackstar Fly battery powered amp that works great. I'm sure I'll be more tempted to take this setup with me on vacation, over a full sized electric or acoustic guitar. There's only so much room for luggage for 4 people, this small thing will still fit easily. I bought it after injuring my foot and being pretty much chair locked and playing my regular guitars with my foot elevated and the arm rests on my chair started to really get uncomfortable. Glad I did and in hindsight I should have bought it a long time ago. Very happy with this easy to play and good sounding guitar. I don't like playing with (wired) headphones, some complain that a small headphone amp won't fit where you plug your cable in, a short cable (like you'd use between FX stomp boxes) would easily fix that though. Personally I like where the cable plugs in since it's on the inside and I don't have a plug sticking out and getting in the way with my arm rests on the chair etc. For my purposes this is a perfect design. ... show more

This is everything you want in a travel guitar. There are a few caveats though: 1. Since this is the most important, I will list it first: once you buy this guitar, there is ZERO support. Zero. I purchased it and sent in a support ticket request - there was an autoresponse of "we will get back to you in 24-48 hours." It's been two weeks and zero response. If something breaks, good luck. This is my only reason for deducting a star. 2. There is a wobble on the leg rest. I suppose it could be solved by putting some electrical tape there, but it seems cheap to me that it exists at all, especially when the piezo pickup hears it. 3. It has serious trouble staying in tune. I remedied this by purchasing locking tuners and lubricating the wheels at the bottom of the weird tuning mechanism at the bottom of the guitar, but it really should come stock with locking tuners, even if it is a bit more expensive, and there is no reason for them not to lubricate the wheels. 4. You'll need to buy a preamp for it if you want to play with headphones, which I totally understood upon purchase. I recommend a Mustang Micro - it fits well, looks great, and plays like a dream. Overall, I'm super happy with the guitar itself, but it really needed some modifications to make it playable for a serious guitarist. I really want to love this guitar. It is the right size and shape for travel and is very nice design. Unfortunately the guitar is completely unplayable unless you keep in in a climate controlled environment, not very good for travel. The neck and truss system is horrible. I can not get it to stay anywhere near a playable bow unless it is kept indoors at a constant humidity/temp. I have not had this kind of issue with any guitar but a travel guitar needs to be much more resilient. Perhaps a better quality wood in the neck would help stabilize it but for now it is just an interesting looking wall ornament. Too bad because when it holds the neck shape it is a lot of fun to play. ... show more

Overall, slightly above average for it's intended use. Otherwise rather pricey, and definitely not a daily use guitar by any means. If I'm traveling more than a week or two, I'll being a full size without question. Uncomfortable to position for play, wonky controls and questionable build quality. Both lap rest and arm rest not secured completely, which makes it feel lose and will move slightly during play. Stock tuners, as many have mentioned, are garbage. Will go significantly out of tune after five minutes of use. Upgrade them immediately to make this guitar usable. While the concept of the in-body tuners makes it more portable, its a pain to turn and makes restringing the guitar exponentially more of a chore than it should be. Electronics are okay, I mostly use a Mustang Micro, and it's okay for what it is. I've actually never played it on an amp, since it basically stays near my travel bags when I get home and I go for something else to play. Position of input jack is odd and honestly kind of obnoxious. The existing wire, that connects the controls of the lap rest to the pickups, gets in the way. The input jack pushes out at an angle towards the existing cable towards the body which isn't ideal. Overall, it's barely worth the cost and still needs some design improvements. Unless you make several short trips a year and want to bring a guitar, I'd look elsewhere. ... show more

This would be a great product if only they could get the input jack correct. I tried three different guitars and all three of them had the same problem. The input cable would not lock in and would gradually back out while playing. I ordered my first guitar from Amazon and when that one showed this defect that I ordered two more from Sweetwater.
