I have purchased the Chilton manual for most every vehicle I have ever owned, beginning with a Datsun F10 I had back in the 80s. While not every detail is covered in these manuals, as a real shop manual would include, 90% of what I wanted was there, and the cost considerably lower. I assume that the information I expect is still there for the Chilton Tacoma manual I just received. However, there is one significant change from previous manuals: it is printed on cheap, off-white newsprint instead of the substantial, white stock I am used to with these manuals. I know, paper costs keep rising. And this manual would be much thicker with that sort of publishing quality. Still, it is a great disappointment. So, I decided to check the Chilton's service on the Web. It is a wonderful alternative. Not only is the detail greater in some instances, but you can print it out on white paper. Plus, there are updates, and you also receive tech bulletins and recall notices. The downside here is an annual fee instead of a single price. Since I use the Web a lot, I have noticed that very specific (and free)instructions for Tacoma repair are also now available, with detailed (with photographs), step-by-step instructions. I have already found tips for removing the headliner that is totally off the radar for Chilton, even on line. It's pretty hard to ignore this important information resource that is available for a simple Googling. Sadly, I think these Web sites mean that I will not be purchasing any paper manual for my next vehicle. An era has ended. I may not even renew the Chilton's online when it runs out in a year. I've used my manual a couple of times, now, to repair a couple of things...replacing my headlamps and for an oil change. The black and white photos aren't very clear...color would be best and worth paying more for a manual. Unlike my past auto manuals from Chiltons, they didn't put the fluid specs in the back of the book but in the middle forcing you to hunt for them. (Not appreciated.) Overall, a useful book for most tasks, recommended! ... show more
