This is a beautiful electric fireplace. Compared to units at Lowe's the simulated flames look much better on this unit in my opinion, especially from the distance when it's mounted on the wall. The glowing logs add to the ambience and look great. The remote control is easy to use and very convenient - we love the timer function on it and use it all the time when falling asleep. The mounting bracket holes did not line up with the studs on my wall where I wanted to mount the fireplace so I used my own drill to drill holes into the mounting bracket to line up the studs. Mounting was easy, although the mounting hardware provided was for drywall anchors only - not the proper screws to mount into a stud. And also the provided hardware didn't fit into the holes on the mounting bracket. I ended up using my own wood screws and drywall anchors and it worked out fine. When we first received and turned on the fireplace we noticed a crinkling noise(almost sounded like a simulated fireplace crackling noise - we thought it was intentional), a clanking noise every few seconds, and noticed the simulated flames were not as high on the left side of the fireplace as they were on the right. After emailing Touchstone we found out none of these were intentional. Touchstone quickly diagnosed the issue based on our description and a dislocated rod inside the fireplace and provided a repair instruction via email for us to fix it ourselves, or offered to cover shipping and replace the unit free of cost if we wanted it replaced. We opted to fix it ourselves - it was a pretty easy fix and it took about an hour to complete the fix(most of which was removing and then reinserting screws on the case). We reinserted the rod as directed by Touchstone and the crackling and clanking noises were gone and the flames now appeared evenly distributed. After the fix the fireplace was completely silent in it's operation(not using the heat - we haven't used the heat function yet). It looks beautiful on our bedroom wall. Highly recommended product and excellent customer service from Touchstone - if you're interested in an electric fireplace I highly recommend this product. Based on this product and experience I would gladly do business with Touchstone again in the future.

The media could not be loaded. It is exactly as other reviewers describe - and thanks to their enthusiasm, I'm happy to say I purchased it myself. This thing is absolutely mesmerizing. Very few products live up to the hype, and the Touchstone 50" Onyx electric fireplace hit it out of the park. So let me give the nuts and bolts: It showed up sooner than expected, was flawlessly packaged, was out of the box and tested in under 5 minutes. I waited until the next day to wall mount it, which took all of 10-12 minutes with the help of a magnetic studfinder/level ($8 on Amazon), pencil, and a drill with a 1/4" bit. So yeah, easy to install (but get a friend if you cannot comfortably lift 40-50 lbs on your own). It cranks out serious heat, so I'm super happy that the flames and heater can function independently, because I've been sitting in 90 degrees all day with this thing on just so I can watch the flames. I'll try to post a video to support this review. The flames are spectacular and realistic, and particularly stunning at night. If you're thinking about it, do it. You will NOT be sorry!

I bought this item to use in a three season room for occasional heating needs. Have used it on and off for a couple years and love it! The cost of installing other heat sources was way more than the need warranted, and I wanted to have the fireplace effect. This was the BEST purchase I could have made. It's a beautiful, well constructed item, hanging it on the wall was easy and despite it being an electric fireplace, even running it for several hours didn't make my electric bill jump. Hardly noticed any cost increase. It does not create too much heat, but takes the edge off cooler temps and provides a comfortable place for guests to gather without excessive warmth. Makes slight humming sound when running but it's not bothersome or too noisy. You hardly notice the sound... actually rather comforting along with the beautiful flames effect. Thanks, Touchstone Products! You've mastered this one!

This thing is really beautiful, and should be purchased for ambiance alone. Heat output is reasonable, but don't expect it to produce heat based on its size; the heater is quite small. CONS: The heat output is a tiny vent on the top and cannot be directed or aimed, so putting this under your TV will require some sort of redirecting to keep your TV from getting too hot. Installation was pretty easy, but the wall bracket has limited slots, and they're spaced out at odd intervals...don't expect them to line up with the joists in your home. Additionally, there's no mounting diagram that shows center or the screw slots, so you'll have to wing it. Unit comes with drywall anchors, so using a couple of those will work well. Overall, would definitely buy again, and am happy to recommend this to anyone interested. It is truly a beautiful 'fireplace' and 50" of flame effect certainly establishes a nice, relaxing mood. (Oh yeah, use the faux wood pieces, not the 'rocks'.

The media could not be loaded. So glad I went with this electric fireplace after researching many brands. A beautiful and contemporary look that gives my bedroom a nice cozy touch for those cold autumn and winter nights. The heater works great and the remote is awesome to turn it on or off from my bed or to set a timer to shut off after I fall asleep. The lighting and ambiance the flames emit really is enjoyable to watch. I would highly recommend.

The unit is beautiful and perfect. The heat comes out the top and the unit is very quiet while running. I like the timer feature too. We had it installed on our (covered) porch that is about 600 square feet and it warms the space enough yo take the chill off in the mornings or late at night. I had a reason to contact Customer Service. Kevin is the rep who took care of me and he is very good, par excellence at his job. This company and CS is A-One. NOTE: We had to have the unit installed because we are in our late 70’s but the electrician said it was an easy process to install .
