  • Great value Split AC unit Great value Split AC unit
Style: WiFi - 9,000 BTU 115V (R 32)
I wanted a 120V split system for a modest sized bedroom. This Tosot 9,000 BTU system fit the bill perfectly. Installation was relatively straight forward. I did it myself and watched a few videos on YouTube to be sure I fully understood the process (I highly recommend LRN2DIY Channel on YouTube for a good Tosot installation tutorial). I needed to purchase a torque wrench and a vacuum pump with pressure gauge attachment (see the video for details), plus the electrical wiring and conduit. Even with these added expenses, the full installation cost me under $1K. I’ve only had the system working for a few days and, with autumn temps, I haven’t needed to run it much. That said, cooling and heating appear to work well. The system is very quiet inside and the outdoor compressor is quiet too. The Tosot app (iPhone) works perfectly on my home WiFi and is a nice alternative to the remote control. I have not been able to get it connected to Alexa, which is a bit frustrating…but with the remote and the app working, Alexa is not critical for me. Now that I have the torque wrench and vac pump, my next Tosot installation should be easy and more cost effective. ... show more

  • SO much better than the window A/C rodeo!
Style: WiFi - 9,000 BTU 115V (R 32)
I bought a 12,000 BTU for the kitchen/office and then a 9,000 BTU unit for the bedroom, they were easy to install, and have been working silently and perfectly for heat and cool. I just ordered a 3rd one last night, 9,000 BTU for the front room. You DO need a few things to install these yourself but they are half the price of the "mr cool" units so you still save a few hundred bucks. You will need; A Vacuum pump with gage set (about $100) An open end torque wrench (about $50) A hose adaptor for connecting the vac pump (about $8) Nylog sealant (about $13) Here is what I bought to use; VIVOHOME 110V 1/4 HP 3.5CFM Single Stage Rotary Vane Air Vacuum Pump and AC Manifold Gauge Set VANPO Adjustable Torque Wrench, 5-45 Ft.lb/7-61 Nm, 38MM Open End Torque Wrench, 3/8 Inch Drive Torque Wrench with Interchangeable Jaw & Ratchet Head for HVAC R410a Charging Vacuum Port Adapter Brass Converter with Thimble 5/16 Inch Female Quick Coupler to 1/4 Inch Male Flare for Mini Split System Air Conditioner HVAC Refrigeration Service RT201B Nylog Gasket/Thread Sealant, 30 ml (1 Pack) If you are doing the wiring yourself like I did- you need a 12/2 with ground copper cable, a disconnect box and a breaker. After installing the head unit indoors and the condensor outside you connect the copper linesets, drain hose and communication cable which come out thru the wall from the head unit to the condensor, use a small amount of the Nylog sealant just on the copper flares' seating surface NOT on the screw threads. I used a short piece of 3" PVC drain pipe to cleanly go thru the wall. After connecting the linesets you need to torque the flare nuts on them to the specs in the manual, this is a VERY important step- too loose or too tight can cause leaks, get that tight to the specs and you won't have a leak problem. You need to connect the vaccum pump to the service port using the adaptor as the hoses are different, there are videos showing how on youtube, it's easy enough, let the pump run, a half hour is fine, close the service port valve and then shut the pump off and remove it. Now you use an allen wrench to open the two valves on the condensor's brass fittings, and the refrigerant enters the lines, now it's ready to go! The instruction booklet helps, youtube videos will help get it done easily- just make sure not to kink the copper lines, unroll and flex them gently into shape and position, TORQUE the fittings correctly, vacuum pump a half hour, and it's done, very simple. So I spent about $175 for the pump, adaptor etc but I used it for 2 units and now will be using it for a 3rd, so it's more cost effective divided over multiple units- even buying those to install one unit is a lot cheaper than mr cool which wants around $1299 and that still demands you use a torque wrench to tighten the flare nuts. For youtube videos search for these excellent general guides on a few types of these units such as mr cool and others, ( Tosot also has a youtube video on the exact product too which is also helpful) How To Vacuum Down a Mini Split with Analog Manifold Gauges This MINI-Split AC System Changed My Life | Learn How To Install One Yourself How To Install a Mini Split Line Set - R410a Flaring Guide & Torque Settings Using Nylog One thing to keep in mind is, ALL of these mini splits are basically the same other than slight cosmetic differences- they are manufactured by Gree global corporation at the same plant regardless of "brand" name slapped on the outside. According to the Nikkei newspaper, Gree’s global market share of residential air conditioners reached 20.6% in 2018, ranking No.1 in the world for 14 years. Gree has established 126 research institutions, 1,045 laboratories, 1 academician workstation (motor and control), one national key laboratory, one national engineering research center, one national industrial design center, one national recognized enterprise technology center, and one robotics engineering technology research center. So, these Tosot units should give years of dependable service, and the manufacturer is well established with a long record of many types of appliances and industrial units. EDIT 14 months later, still all good, but I noticed due to trump tariffs the price went up $63, partially hidden with a new $25 'delivery fee' I didn't pay before. ... show more

  • Good unit for DIYers
Style: WiFi - 9,000 BTU 115V (R 32)
Really like this unit! Works well. Is super quiet both inside and outside. One thing to note for DIYers you should run the copper tubing fully BEFORE opening the valves to let the refrigerant in the lines. I pressurized THEN tried wrapping and bending and doing all the things to position the tubing. That caused it to move too much and to leak the refrigerant. :( ... show more

  • Solid, cost-effective, mini-split that isn't too hard to DIY install
Style: WiFi - 9,000 BTU 115V (R 32)
I finally finished installing this mini-split in my home (DIY). In hindsight, the installation is not that difficult, but I will caution any ambitious DIY'ers that if you've never installed one before, watch several Youtube videos of people installing similar mini-splits and determine your comfort level doing the install, because the included instructions aren't great. So far, the Tosot unit has been excellent. The indoor unit's fan is very quiet, has maintained a consistent temperature (currently using for heat, but look forward to cooling in the summer). The outdoor condenser unit is also surprisingly quiet. For those that don't know, this is basically a rebranded Gree unit, so it uses the Gree smartphone app which seems to work well (if you choose to connect your unit to WiFi). While I'm thankful it has the onboard temp display that is easy to read on the wall unit, I'm very glad you can easily turn off the LED display using the remote control. Otherwise, it lights up my whole bedroom at night. There are no other obnoxious LEDs on the unit to worry about in a dark room. A few tips for those that plan to DIY this install. You'll need an open-ended torque wrench or crow's feet adapters for a standard torque wrench. I had a hell of a time trying to figure out ahead of time what size crow feet I would need to tighten the nuts on the coolant lines. The instructions have the wrong nut sizes called out in their torque table. I believe I ended up using the 3/4" and 7/8" crow feet, but they don't fit the nuts very well. I think the nuts might be metric. Also, don't forget to purchase the correct R134A adapter to connect your vacuum pump. My three favorite YouTube videos that I referenced for my install were: "Budget Mini Split Installation for Beginners! w/ Vacuum Pump and Gauges" from DIY Solar Power with Will Prowse "DIY Mini Split Install - All the Things Nobody Shows You" from LRN2DIY And watch LRN2DIY's follow up video "DIY Mini Split Install: 3 Regrets After 1 Year of Use" ... show more

  • Wiring supplied NOT permitted by NEC Code
Style: WiFi - 9,000 BTU 115V (R 32)
Beware: Ships with cord that does not meet NEC standard and you'll have to replace. I spent an additional $137 (new cord and another electrical inspection) plus additional time to re-install and connect the new wire from the inside unit to the outdoor unit. As of mid-December, TOSOT is still arguing that their cord does meet code, however, my electrical inspector says it does not, so I had to replace the cord. Longer version: I ordered the TOSOT 9,000 BTU Mini-Split Air Conditioner on August 3, 2025. They ship the system with a flexible cord that runs from the inside unit to the outside unit thru a 2 inch hole you are supposed to drill in the wall to run 2 flexible copper tubings, a drain hose, and a flexible cord. HOWEVER, you aren't allowed to use the flexible cord they provide which is SOW wire. Huh? According to the NEC (National Electrical Code) and my electrical inspector in the State of Washington where I live, they do not allow the cord TOSOT provides to run thru a wall, so I had to replace it and pay for a second visit from the electrical inspector all of which added $137 in additional expenses plus a few extra hours of my time. I am still waiting on TOSOT to make this right, but they insist their provided wiring meets the NEC code. According the NEC 400.12 (2), flexible cables are not permitted where run thru holes in walls. You can do a Google search for "NEC 400.12" and read it for yourself. Summary: I like the unit itself and it is working well, however, be aware this TOSOT unit ships with a flexible connecting cord between the inside and outside unit that will need to be upgraded with wire that can be passed thru a hold in the wall. Be prepared to have to upgrade the wire and do so right away so you'll pass the electrical inspection the 1st time. I am disappointed in TOSOT's customer service as they should have reimbursed me the $137. ... show more

  • Overall great value for a DIYer
Style: WiFi - 9,000 BTU 115V (R 32)
Overall a good experience. I put it in my two car garage for when I'm out there working on various projects all year around. So far it's working well. Just follow the myriad online instructions and YouTube examples and you'll be fine. I definitely recommend using nylog blue on the flares. My only real complaint is that the smaller 1/4 inch line that it comes with is actually just a bit smaller than 1/4in. This was a big problem for me and added several extra hours of frustration: the factory flares were actually of good quality but if you try to torque the 1/4 flairs to the correct spec, the tubing wall will become too thin at the fitting and the line will break. Then you'll have to cut it off and re-flare the end. However, given that the tube is smaller than standard, it will not stay tight in the flaring tool, will slip, and you'll get a poor flare. I ended up wrapping several layers of painters tape around the tube to make it thick enough to grip but even that barely worked and honestly I should have just went out and bought a new length of copper tubing that was actually 1/4 inch and swapped that into the line insulation. So, just be aware. In the end I abandoned the "correct" torque spec, just hand tightened to "snug" (while using the nylog), and didn't have leaks. Had no issues with the 3/8 copper line as it was actually the correct size. ... show more
