The microwave in our GE oven/microwave combo self-destructed after 5 years (transformer melted) - could have easily caught the house on fire - and we need a temporary microwave while we decide what we are going to do with replacing the combo unit. Pros: - Price - Reasonable amount of cooking options - Size - not overly large but big enough to hold a regular size dinner plate - Appearance, like the black/black stainless look - Ease of use Cons: - While I would not say this is overly loud - it is louder than our old unit - Some uneven results when heating food We've only had this for a month or so thus I can't speak to the durability. I like this product's size, design and look. I easily muted the "beep" and the child lock is very easy to navigate (just depress built-in button on handle and door easily opens). No need to read through instruction book to figure out how to open the door. This microwave does have a noisier hum/vibration upon use. Even at full power, heating something starts out noisy but then it quiets down. Weird, but not really bothersome. It was an excellent price for the power and size. Easily fits on my apt countertop; my re-heatable tall coffee container easily fits inside. This was an issue with my previous lower-wattage microwave. I wish this one was intuitive as far as placing a coffee mug inside, handle facing the door - previous one always delivered mug w/handle at door when using 30 sec increments. Must've been developed by a woman :) I don't think microwaves need so many choices on the front. Simplify things, manufacturers. Very happy overall with this purchase. Even Toshiba can't produce a working product anymore! I had the earlier generation of this microwave and it was a very reliable one that was put under intense use with flying colors. I loved the memory function that allowed you to program most frequent applications without having to change power and stop the session to get the perfect result, etc. Best of all, it offered a mute function to silence the annoying beeps - rather useful if you don't want to wake up other people in the middle of the night. Since that one is discontinued, I looked into what has replaced it and I came across this model. It had all the previous generation functions but I found out that the motion of the plate is jerky instead of smooth rotation you expect. It is so jerky that the cup of water I put in to warm up actually spilled inside! It is also noisy, although I can live with that if it was actually working. It also has a much cheaper feel to it. I was almost concerned the door might shatter and crack if I am not careful. The appearance is average and only comes in black. I would have preferred a white model to match my other setup.
