Last month I ordered one of these tubes from China- nice to see them also available on Amazon. I use them to lengthen my desktop mic stands that lack a built in height adjustment. The 3/8 to 5/8 adapter is included with most mic holders. But the 1/4 to 5/8 is less common, and allows you to convert a conventional desktop tripod to a mic stand.

These were a lucky acquisition since it turned out I needed them today. I sometimes use a regular stage mic stand that comes with an offset boom as an overhead boom to hold a light camera over a desk, but I couldn't find my regular adapter to go from 5/8 to 1/4. So I got this just in time. The metal is very light weight, and doesn't feel especially strong. But it worked well enough to get me through my video session.
