Perfect for my need s

10yrs ago, I got an official FLIR brand scout thermal. It was sturdy, easy to use, and ask and great. But it aged and the technology advanced, and it was time for a replacement. I saw this and looked similar and decided to give it a go. This feels exactly like my FLIR branded one, but it's leaps and bounds better images than the old one. Maybe the me expensive brands are betteris, but i don't know... from the quality I had before, and seeing this, I wouldn't be surprised if they both came from the same factory with this one being a fraction of the price! I'll update with images later once I get around to it. The fusion mode is so clear that I could probably navigate using it. And the bird mode helps spot little critters in the trees and brush, which is what i like to use it for. The range is phenomenal! I was hesitant at first since I didn't recognize the brand, but this is the real deal. Like I said, I wouldnt be surprised if this came off the same assembly line as the much more expensive brands.

Best choice I’ve found and has exceptional image quality

I got the pro model (blue). It’s amazing for general wildlife viewing and yes, birding at sunrise when birds are active but hard to find. Haven’t used it hunting but wouldn’t hesitate to. I’ll start with the bad… not that anything is actually bad. This may be more of a constructive criticism for the company if they ever make a version 2. 1. The rubber end caps can come off more easily than I hoped they would but it’s easy to be aware of when pulling out of the tight holster. If it is ever an issue there are easy solutions I can do myself. 2. It’s blue. I actually like the blue but a coyote color or something earthy may be better for the fashionistas that think they’re tacticool. I can see Topdon losing sales on the pro for that reason alone. 3. A dedicated video switch and zoom in/out instead of cycling the zoom may be nice for future versions. But the current simplicity of buttons is also nice. The GREAT 1. Intuitive and easy functions 2. Image clarity is excellent and exceeds other thermals I’ve tried that claim to have the same resolution (at a distance > 10ft) but not everyone is going to need the higher resolution. 3. App is extremely useful and a pleasure to use 4. Feels like a solid and durable build 5. Almost no lag time when viewing compared to many others 6. Good tactile feel overall and easy to use the buttons in the dark without looking. 7. Ambidextrous layout 8. Subtle blue color that doesn’t make you look tacticool 😉 Some reviews made me think the app wouldn’t be good but I disagree. It’s excellent for remote viewing. A cheap remote control pan/tilt mount on a tripod (found a few on Amazon) will make this unbeatable for nighttime viewing wildlife in my yard while inside or at a campsite while hiding in a tent. I’ll take it up the road to Rocky Mountain National Park tonight for a more involved test on animal identification at distances but after many hours of use in my yard and the adjacent national forest I’m already sold. This is excellent. If your local fire department or SAR team doesn’t have thermal already, buy them one. This could be a game changer especially in the mountains or desert at night. If Topdon made an inexpensive thermal rifle scope I would get one without hesitation. Are you reading this Topdon?

Not the best, read about it!!

So, I purchased this as a second thermal vision. Had high expectations because of the reviews and Amazon recommendation. But it turned out not to be amazing at all. 1. The image is not as sharp as other brands. 2. The assembly quality is medium: the part that focuses the vision broke after 3 days of use. It just fell in the forest, and that's it. This is very, very strange for such a "premium" product. 3. The battery is OK, but not amazing! It will last for a few hours, but 11 hours, no way. Also, you can not "change" a battery because it's built in. 4. The processor is slow. There is a lag when you move the camera. 5. The definition is a disaster: if the "thermal" conditions are not ideal, the camera starts to confuse, and you see a blur, and that's it. Very hard to work with this device with vegetation around. So, over all it is OK, but, I have a brand which is $200 less, and it actually has much better image, and I have one which is $200 more, and its 6 times better than this. So, if you want something that looks "cool" and feels "well", then this one is for you. If you have a task you need to do (find a pet, observe animals, security, etc.), invest in something more reliable and with better performance.

Worth every penny!

I got the pro model during the Prime Day sale at a good price. A friend had the standard model and recommended it but when I saw the price I went pro. I'm glad I did! At a recent gathering of like minded people who enjoy roaming around National Forests at night looking for certain bipedal creatures a lot of folks with standard or low grade models of various brands were admiring and borrowing my pro therm. It has many different modes, takes pictures and videos, and everything is clear and sharp out to long distances. I have had it for about two months and have used it to look for animals at night in the Pacific Northwest and the American Southwest and have enjoyed every minute of using it. Animals from mice to deer and even an elk herd were crystal clear. My favorite is watching bats at night as the do acrobatics in the air. I highly recommend this model of the TOPDON Pro Termal camera.

Performance is 70% of my $20K FLIR Camera

I spend a lot of time tracking wildlife at night and have a $20K Thermal Imaging camera on the truck and wanted something handheld. The performance/resolution/clarity/contrast of this unit is about 70% of the $20K truck unit so for the price this is an exceptional value. The image is a little hot (too much contrast) but I'm used to a $20K camera. All the options and buttons are easy to use and intuitive and can easily be operated with gloves. The photo and video with sound works well and simple to download. The battery life is a few hours and charges quickly. You rarely will be using a thermal scope for hours at a time so this is plenty. I use it almost every night and have had it for four months now and I think it's the best handheld on the market I've used for under $5000

Amazing and totally worth the money

Where has this device been on my life? I purchased it to help a friend find an indoor-only cat that escaped when a visitor left the door open. I started off with the less expensive TOPDON green one and it was not very useful. It might be OK for deer but definitely not for small mammals or birds in thick vegetation.. This one is amazing and is totally worth it even though it cost twice as much. Sitting in the dark, I could see nothing, but then when I use the camera, I could see little birds and mice and rabbits, and even in a couple mountain beaver popping in and out of their burrows. We have also spotted a lot of cats, but haven't found the missing cat yet.
