  • Fantastic read!
Format: Hardcover
Highly, highly recommended. I certainly imagine this book as a helpful resource for someone with a deep understanding of building and construction. That said, it's also very approachable for someone like myself whose skill set doesn't extend too far beyond hammer and nail. The book not only synthesizes how to use specific tools but also shares why they're used and in some cases even gives a light history on the origin of the tool. I enjoyed the tips and tricks boxes and the look and feel of the book - from illustrations to layout to font - is really well done. ... show more

  • Excellent overview
Format: Kindle
Excellent tool classification and very practical for an overview. Highly recommended.

  • A 'must read' for anyone wanting to learn more about tools
Format: Hardcover
I’m amazed by how much practical and entertaining information on tools that this book covers. It felt concise and easy to read for beginners, but thorough enough for experts alike. Jeff Waldman's writing style flows so well that it's fun and interesting cover-to-cover. Whether you’re looking for a great starting point to learn about tools, a comprehensive guide of everything under the sun that one can use to build stuff, or anything in between, this is the book for you. ... show more

  • Enthusiasts approved , collectors not so much.
Format: Hardcover
A good compact compilation of modern day tools. Brief descriptions and reviews encompassing a great variety of available tools. Great for tool enthusiasts but not for long tenured collectors.

  • Awesome book - a great guide and resource for anyone who wants to pick up a tool
Format: Hardcover
This is a wonderful book. You can read it cover to cover or skip around to the section that is most relevant to you. (So much info on saws) I bought this for myself but will be gifting it to friends who love to get out and make things.

  • Really clear and very helpful.
Format: Hardcover
Written really well, easy to understand and the amount of tools it covers is awesome. Haven't finished going through all of it, but I've learned quite a bit already even about tools I already knew how to use.

  • Good for those buying tools for the first time in their life
Format: Hardcover
This book covers handyman and DIY type tools in a fairly shallow level of detail. It is good if you’re a on the newbie end of the spectrum. If you are experienced or spent a lot of time as a kid working with a parent or grand parent you may not pick up a lot of new information. I was looking for a more in depth book more specific to metal working tools and did not find what I was looking for in this book. Not the author’s fault. I would recommend machine shop essentials by Frank Marlow if you want to go down the home shop rabbit hole and learn things your family may not have been able to teach you. ... show more

  • Helpful, attractive, and easy to use guide.
Format: Hardcover
When working with my dad on a project, he always seems to know (and somehow own) the exact tool needed for the job - and knows how to use it. While this book won’t replace 70+ years of life experience, it might be the next best thing I’ve been slowly reading it since it arrived, but you don’t honestly need to read the whole thing to get great use out of it. The book is divided into four main sections - “measure, cut, fasten, and shape” - to help you narrow it down if you’re looking for something specific. Finally, while you can’t judge a book by its cover, it does not hurt that it is a handsome volume that looks nice on my shelf. ... show more
