Description

Build Stuff with Wood is a true beginner's guide to woodworking, aimed at anyone who is interested in the craft but has little to no tools and no real idea where to start. The idea behind the book is to begin with a few portable power tools (cordless drill, jigsaw, etc.), build a bunch of cool projects with that basic kit, and then add skills and tools as you go. For example, adding a small router to your arsenal allows you to gracefully round edges on tables and shelves; buying a simple doweling jig opens up the world of joinery. In all, 14 fun projects will be presented, all built with just a few woodworking tools and off-the-shelf lumber. Read more

  • Great book
As a novice in woodworking I found this book to be excellent. I really enjoy reading on this subject and hope to continue to build my shop and build great items.

  • Good book but arrived with a dent in it.
The media could not be loaded. Book arrived damaged. See attached video. Being that it is a gift it’s difficult to give someone a book with a dent in it. The book is great with very good information.

  • Build stuff with wood
Got this from local library and husband admired a table made in the book that I ordered the book for his birthday to own. Now to see how long it will take him to make the table! Several good designs in the book that also piqued his interest.

  • Woodworkers of all levels, buy this book!
I am finding this book to be a peppy and fun read. Almost makes me want to get rid of my woodworking machinery and go back to only hand power tools. My dad was a master of the circular saw and hand drill. I have many fond memories of weekends in the garage building. I recommend this book to novice and expert alike as you can always learn something regardless of your knowledge level. Thanks Asa for a great book! Best, Matt ... show more

  • fairly detailed with measurements
The book has many ideas on projects to make and has the materials listed as well as the dimensions of what to cut. I would have liked it better had it had more projects listed but overall I am pleased with the book.

  • For Beginners and Experienced Woodworkers
I had the luxury of meeting the author before the book was published, and heard and saw some of the projects during a presentation, and immediately pre-ordered the book. When it came I was totally pleased by the high quality of the projects, writing and photos. Asa has a passion for beginning woodworkers and this is a perfect book for them. I am fairly experienced and I can say that I learned more than enough to justify buying this book.. His emphasis on simple and more common tools has caused me to re-think how I approach some of my own projects and not always gravitating to more serious woodworking power tools. I hope he writes more ... show more

  • Best book for a beginning woodworker
I have been woodworking for 20 years and recently bought this book for a friend who wanted to get started in woodworking. I wish Asa's book was around 20 years ago as it would have made me a better woodworker faster by helping me select the right tools to get a proper start in the hobby. I would highly recommend this book for someone just starting in woodworking! (And there are some useful ideas and great projects for us "old timers" too!") ... show more
