Everything happened to work out fine for my use case because I had a spare HDMI->USB capture device I could hook it up to, but if I hadn't had that then one of my primary usecases for this microscope would have been defeated right there. To repeat, because this little fact isn't in their documentation anywhere, If you plug this into a PC it will lock out the digital zoom functionality as well as the menu for adjusting other settings. It will behave this way whether you set it in webcam mode or to mount the media for transferring files so you can't even just power this from a PC and have full functionality. I'm using it primarily for Electronics work that I wanted to be able to stream back through video calls and the like in OBS as well as a bit of convenience. I already have a binocular optical microscope that's technically better quality, but there is no mount for a digital camera and it's mounted in such a way that using it can be taxing on my posture. This entire microscope was cheaper than an adjustable mount for that microscope though, so two birds with one stone. If you don't care much about capturing the image live on a computer, then this microscope will work great for exactly what they claim. Youtube reviews of the DM201 and the like will tell you pretty much what this scope is like to use. Really not appropriate for truly microscopic work, but great for examining small objects much closer up (coins, stamps, electronic components, etc.) It's also pretty easy to unmount the aluminum holder, drill and tap a 1/4" 20 hole at the back and mount it on any camera gear you might have lying around (which I did and is working just grand). ... show more

Update I returned. this to cheap not worth almost 200$ this is the kind of stuff that is made in china very cheap and sold at a huge mark up to USA and sold on aliexpress, Alibaba ect. Amazon is becoming flooded with this cheap aliexpress products that are overpriced.please stop buying this garbage so people will stop selling aliexpress stuff on amazon. not sure how I feel about this purchase, a little disappointed I suppose. I do not know what is considered good magnification. What I can tell you is the microscope/camera assembly feels extremely cheap and still as I write this I wonder what I spent almost 200$ on. But it looks like this is how they are all made unless you spend an insane amount of money. What I also do not like is when this is plugged into your pc using usb the default setting for the camera is not 4k. there is no way to change the settings when plugged into pc. I will not be plugging into pc via usb because of this so that function is literally useless. I am not sure about using the hdmi I do not think my laptop has hdmi input only output so I can not plug the microscope in via hdmi to my pc. The lighted stage seems kind of useless not bright and you have to unplug the base lights to plug in the stage light and the power cable for the stage hits the stand. But at the same time, it does work just seems like it could have been made better and is kind of an afterthought. There is some other negatives but those are the main ones. What I do like is with the extension you can photograph an area bigger than 3 stamps refer to the photo with the blue earth stamps. The photo of the three blue earths and the two darker color paper pictures are example of how much you can zoom in on an object. you can go from image area of more than three stamps to basically just seeing the paper threads and ink. The other three photo is showing a stamp with micro print zoomed out then all the way in on the third photo. micro print says usps and that is the absolute most you can zoom in just fits the usps in frame and you see the individual ink dots/pixels. Also to zoom in that much you have to have the usb camera/microscope about 1/2 inch away. Overall I would not pay the 199 for the pro model that has the hdmi and lighted stage. but for 170$ its not much more than the other model and makes more sense. Also the dm402 pro, according to the photo details of the actual photos taken with this microscope .I did confirm this is a 24mp photo, but the image size is only like 5.69mb. Not bad but wish it had the same photographing capability as my nikon d7200 that is also 24mp but takes way bigger and better pictures at around 40mb give or take. at 40mb the image is much much bigger and better than the small image size of 5.69mb this microscope does at 24mega pixel. mega pixel or the 24mp rating is not image size fyi. high mp is good but without image size you are not using the 24mp to its full potential. ... show more

Leave off the extension tube if you're trying to get the most magnification. With the 3x digital zoom, the image is still plenty crisp to see those fine traces. Pleasantly surprised by the picture quality.

After using the Tomlov Digital Microscope for several macro projects, I have found it to be a disappointing and inadequate tool. The microscope has several key flaws that make it unsuitable for anything but a glorified magnifying glass. First, the microscope's image quality is poor. The pictures taken with the microscope are often blurry and lack detail. This makes it difficult to accurately capture the fine details of the subjects being examined. Second, the microscope's light source is weak and inadequate. The light is not evenly distributed and often results in uneven illumination of the subject. This makes it difficult to properly expose the image and can lead to inconsistencies in the final photos. Third, the microscope's focus mechanism is poorly designed and difficult to use. The focus knob is small and awkward to grip, making it difficult to make fine adjustments to the focus. This can lead to out-of-focus images and frustration for the user. Overall, I would not recommend the Tomlov Digital Microscope for anyone looking to do anything but a digital magnifying glass. Its poor image quality, inadequate light source, and difficult focus mechanism make it an inadequate tool for this purpose. ... show more

Awesome!!! My eyes ain't as good as they once were. This Tomlov scope are my new eyes. I'm a novice Coin Collector and this scope has really already made it so much easier to look at my coins 🪙. I recommend this scope to anyone who has bad eys. Keep up the good work!!!!!!
