I found this toaster through Vine reviews after a long time searching to replace my beloved, 20 year old Oster. I think I looked at every toaster on this site, multiple times, and was unwilling to commit to toasters that had so many mixed reviews. The last time I looked this toaster was new, with only Vine reviews. At the time I saw them, all the reviews for this toaster were 5 star and the price was fantastic. I decided to try it because the reviews were great, and I could see that it had very long slots so I could toast artisanal bread, and slots wide enough for bagels and bulky rolls. For my kitchen, controls on one end were the best design and I like having everything in one place. The toaster works well: not perfectly, but not with enough flaws to give it a less than excellent score. You have to fiddle with the settings at first. It seems to be sensitive to the moisture level of the bread: moist bread needs a higher setting (3 in my case), dryer bread takes a 2. I have not tried higher than that, I think it would scorch. The bread mostly toasts evenly now. It did not at first, but the coils seem to have settled down into an even pattern. At first I did get some uneven toasting, untoasted middles and burnt edges, and different results with the same bread at the same setting. But it has settled down now and that stopped happening. The slots are deep, no un-toasted tops. There's a stop button and a timer so if some unique bread needs a bit more time, you can put it in again, actually time it, and pop it up when you think it's done. The bread pops up high and there's a push up lever for higher, no more burnt fingers trying to pull out the toast. It has a nice sleek look. So overall, despite a few idiosyncracies, I gave it a 5 star rating.

After about 20 years my Kitchenaid long slot toaster that I loved finally died and I had to find a replacement. I would have gone back to Kitchenaid but their toasters have become very retro looking which is not my preference. I have never heard of the brand Dowylik, but the reviews were good so I figured I would give it a try. I've had it for about a week and a half and it seems to get the job done as far as properly toasting. The thing I do not like about it is that the controls are all on the side - which I do not care for. Have to move the toaster every time you need to look at or change a setting - seems to be a thing with many of the new toasters. The countdown timer is functionally useless unless you move the toaster every time you use it or want to peek around the side to see how much time before your toast pops up. So at least for now toast is fine - design not so much. Update - would not buy this toaster again. Now that I've used it for a bit over a month, the toast does not always come out the same, even though the setting is the same and the option buttons feel cheap and tinny. When set on 2, not toasted enough, when set on 3, toasted too much and definitely do not like the controls other than the lever being on the instead of the front.

I make toast every morning, sometimes long loaf slices, and sometimes bagels. This toaster has handled all of this extremely well. I plan to keep using it. NOTES: First, make sure that you understand its dimensions. Regular toasters are short and wide...this one is narrower, and very long. Secondly, note that the controls are on one of the long ends - this is pretty much the only place they CAN be, but depending on your counter top, it might be inconvenient. One lever controls both sides of the toaster. TOAST: very good browning control, from barely toasted to almost black. Will easily do four standard bread slices, and can handle long slices like the cross section of a boule. Once you get it dialed in, the toast is consistently that color of brown. BUTTONS: start, stop, bagel, warm. The stop button pops both sides up at the same time. FEATURES: an LED timer on the side tells you how long before the toast is done. After the toast finishes, you can lift the toasting area up a reasonable distance ... enough to get ahold of most slice sizes. CONCERNS: As with most appliances today, the cord is short. As you may need to run it under the entire length of the toaster to get it to an outlet - it would be nice to have another six inches of cord. Both sides of the toaster always activate, even if you are only using one side. This is not energy efficient.

I was initially pleased to get this toaster and was encouraged by the reviews. However, after about a month of use, I realized that the heating settings are not consistent and tend to be overly hot. When toasting regular store bought bread, a setting of 3 is a bit on the light side for me, but a setting of 4 will turn your toast to black charcoal. For artisan breads, the 3 setting is not sufficiently toasted to my liking, but when I set it to a 4, the edge of my bread burnt to a crisp and was smoking. It's too late to return it, so I guess, I'll just take the loss. The lesson is to really test any new toaster thoroughly within the return period.
