Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for an affordable, reliable wireless follow focus system and are willing to troubleshoot potential external power needs, the Tiltamax Nucleus-Nano could be a good investment. Make sure to check its compatibility with your existing lenses before purchasing.

  • Sweet little tool
Unfortunately I didn’t realize that the gear motor needed external power. It’s also not the best small rig setup for something like my a7s III. At least not without buying a few other expensive Tilta products.

  • Doesn't work with Xeen Lenses
It seems to work fine with Sigma 18-35 but when I tried to used it with a Xeen 35mm or 50mm lens it kept erroring out saying it had gone into motor protection mode. Was using a power brick and micro USB at first, support implied it needed more power and that p-tap to micro would power stiffer cine lenses. Ordered an extra cable and ran from a v-mount battery but the same issue remained and ended up pulling it off. ... show more

  • Excellent Wireless Follow Focus
Having a BMPCC4K which it’s autofocus system is pretty much useless, I found myself needed a reliable option to focus my camera, whether myself or having someone else do it. A follow focus is probably the most common way to achieve this, and being wireless opens up the chance to being able to pull focus by a second person without being too close to the camera. This Tiltamax Nucleus-Nano wireless control system is probably the best option I have tried at a very affordable price range. Most gadgets and tools used for cinematography are expensive, and when they aren’t the quality isn’t the best, but I have to say this wireless follow focus is really good and without doubt will get the job done. So anyone who’s in a budget and is looking for a great wireless follow focus system, this Tiltamax Nucleus-Nano will definitely become a great investment. ... show more

  • Needs external power source if using mirrorless camera.
Great build quality. Wheel feels smooth. Finish on all parts are nice. Comes with some useful tools. However, if you plan to use this on a mirrorless camera, you will need to power the motor via external battery. The camera doesnt have enough juice to power this motor. Because of this, I have not properly tested this system yet. I need to buy a cheese plate and velcro to attach the external battery to my camera. Will update as soon as I test this system. ... show more

  • Incredibly disappointing
I spent hundreds of dollars on a V-mount battery that could supply the correct voltage for this product. I bought the P-tap cable directly from Tilta. Despite all that, this product does not work. If I’m lucky, it can function for a good five seconds before stopping. No error messages, no indication why, both parts still appear to be powered on, but the product just doesn’t work. A complete waste of time and money. Edit: After reaching out to Tilta and dealing with three separate agents, they offered to try fixing it….. If I pay to ship it to California. What a joke expecting me to pay even more money for the product that arrived broken. And if I want it done in the next month? Even more money. Just buy from a different company and save yourself the weeks of headaches this product will give you. ... show more
