    • Great value and better than sufficient quality
I've used it once and it performed perfectly. It was an amazing deal at thirty-seven shipped (after five dollar promotional discount and Prime shipping) and it is much higher quality than I expected for that price. The sheet metal (stainless steel) is not as thick as an indestructible commercial one like you would see in an Army chow line, but it's certainly not flimsy, and without repeated abuse I expect it to last forever with the two or three times per year use that I'll give it. Mine came with the plastic handle, pictured, and an additional metal handle. The plastic handle might break if the lid were dropped hard, so it's nice to have a metal backup. FYI: The box it comes in can be reused as a storage box, but the legs/base/frame is one piece, and does not fold up, so it's not very compact at 25" x 15" x 11" high. ... show more

    • Very nice for the price
I've go to admit, I have quite the collection of chafing dishes. Several models and sizes, do the amount of entertaining we do. I have some that cost a few hundred dollars, and I also purchased 2 of these at what I consider to be a very reasonable price. These chafer's function just as well as my very expensive chafer's. However, at a fraction of the cost. These chafer's will also accommodate all the optional chafing insert pans that my expensive chafer's use as well. So, these are very versatile depending on your food serving needs. I noticed a comment regarding the proper water level to use, and maintain. Usually 3" of water is enough to maintain a consistent hot/safe food serving temperature, for about 4 to 4.5 hours of in use time. Its best to very HOT tap water when filling your chafer, as it takes less time and fuel/sterno to heat up the unit. Once the water and food items are HOT. I usually run the unit with only one sterno/fuel cell (centered). And this not only reduces excess steam, but also allows the unit to warm food longer, about 6 hours. Without the need to add additional water. It can be a bit of a task, if you need to add water, especially if the food trays still have food in them. I use my chafer's for entertaining indoors as well as outdoors. Once you start using chafer's, you're going to find, you have a lot more time to spend with your guests. Great price, great product.     • Basic, Functinal, Econmmical and No Complaints
I catered my own wedding (I know crazy but I have champagne tastes on a beer budget and thankfully a knack for the kitchen that or friends who lie really well). After looking at renting chafing dishes I was amazed at how expensive they were. I wanted something nice but I didn't need the deluxe roll top with gold accent chafing dishes. I also didn't want the tacky disposable foil ones, so this fit the bill. They have both a black handle and stainless steel handle so you can choose your look. Since the wedding we have used them for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and a bunch of family gatherings in between. So far not a single problem. Their are prettier chafing dishes, but honestly these do the job and as long as they aren't the disposable foil ones I don't think anyone though that I skimped on my food service ware. I have also bought the half size pans to go in the chafing dishes which gives a lot more options such as having stuffing and mashed potatoes sharing space in one chafing dish. These chafing dishes only come with the full size inserts so you would want to purchase those separately if you want that versatility. ... show more

    • very nice for the price, but not super heavy duty by any means
I have this 4 stars because of the price, it is a really nice piece to have if you do a lot of entertaining. It looks nice and works well. We used it at Christmas and I got many compliments on it. I also purchased an extra pan that is divided so that I could put two items in it. My only complaint was the handle. Very cheap looking. It has a cheap black plastic one but also comes with a chrome one, which is what I needed. However, it is not chrome. I think it is plastic wrapped in a cheap chrome overlay that had bubbles in it. Looks real bad. I decided to leave on the black plastic, even though it did not match my other chasing dish handles. ... show more

    • Very good value, better than expected
We ordered two of these for a gathering with the requirement of keeping brisket and wings warm for a couple of hours. We used the full size sterno cans (each setup holds two). These were easy to assemble, and as others have pointed out in their reviews it is almost mandatory to swap for the silver/chrome handles. The large black handles are pretty awful aesthetically. However after firing up the sterno I think the black handles would have been better to protect against the heat transfer. We had to wrap cloth dinner napkins around the handles to abate the heat transfer to our guests' paws. We quickly learned that we did not need both sterno cans going at the same time as this tends to boil the water in the lower pan. We shut one off (easily done by sliding the attached cover over the flame...a great feature) and partially covered the remaining can's flame with the aforementioned cover. The dishes are presentable and will probably hold up well. They do not have a captured lid so be sure to leave space for the guests to place it down on the table. At 38 bucks I cant really dont want to complain about it at all. Cleanup was easy and storage is as expected (does not collapse down/ fold) but again...no complaints! If these were 50 I would drop it to 4 stars, but at this price these really cant be beat for casual use. ... show more

    • Extra mirror finish handle was a hit! Great product!
I had a really hard time choosing which chafin was the best choice, I wanted to buy at other seller that gave me the option to pay with amazon payments, for some reason, it was not able to get the payment, so very disappointed I had to choose this one that was on my budget since I didn't like the black hande, I wanted something to look more fancy. At the end, i read some reviews saying the ones without the black plastic handle could mean trouble since they might get warm. So i was a little more happy with the purchase. Once i got them, to my surprise, i can say that the choice i made was the best! amazon gave me super fast shipping, and to my surprise item had an extra handle with mirror finish (not sure if its stainless steel, yet it could give a better look. I think seller should take this in count, this extra handle option is a hit, that will convince more buyers. These are long lasting products, i used to rent them, and worked great. Bought two of these chafers from the same seller Cooking Depot. They were both fulfilled by Amazon. Both had very sharp edges. Be careful when handling. Both did the job of keeping the food hot. Definitely a good value. Neither came with fuel. Bought Bakers & Chefs Daily Chef Safe Heat which worked great! One came in a box with a red strip on the bottom - This one had a cover that could easily slide off the water pan base. It also had a ding on one of the corners of the water pan. In addition the sterno holder cover had a nice ding. I straightened most of it by hand. The uploaded pics shows the sterno holder after I straightened it out some. It was much worse when I got it. I am returning this chafer for a refund. The second chafer came in a box that did not have the red strip at the bottom - This one had a cover that fit the water pan nicely because the pan had a ridge and the cover had a lip that secured them together (like a cover on a pot). This chafer was also free of dings. I will keep this one. As far as the inconsistent quality - I think Winware sources out dozens of factories throughout the world; each with their own slight design variations and quality standards. So it is a hit or miss which one you will receive ? I plan to order another chafer because I need two. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will get another good one. ... show more

    • Winare 8Qt Stainless Steel Chafer
I order several of the Winware 8 Qt Stainless Steel Chafers for a Christmas party that I catered. At first I wondered about the quality of the chafers since they were on the lower end, but was thrilled when I received them to see that they are indeed heavy duty, full size, and more than adequate for any catering event. All of the pieces were in tact and I did switch out the black plastic handles for the stainless steel handles. My only comment would be that it would be wonderful if the stainless steel handles were larger, however, if you decide to use the black plastic handles you will not be disappointed. Chafers are the only way to go when catering or hosting an event, as you are far too busy taking care of other guests needs then to monitor the temperature of the food.
