Growing up we always had butter out in a container. Its a great way to have the butter nice, soft, and spreadable while also being protected. The disk is a nice weight, has a sealed top which I appreciate because less bacteria can get in, and even comes with its own knife that sits right in the lid. The knife is a rounded shape which is great for spreading and has holes for if you want the butter to be more in a cylinder and easy to spread. Also love the dish size can hold up to 4 sticks of butter or one giant pad of butter. Best purchase ever.

I love this butter dish. The bottom is metal and the top is wooden. It's very cute. I love the butter curler knife. It's great for hard butter. This dish has a snug secure lid which keeps my butter fresh so I can keep it on my counter so I always has soft butter.

Decorative and as described. That said it is not as useful in the kitchen or at the table as a simple butter dish. I bought it to replace a simple plastic one that is still in use. To cut butter you have to remove it and place it on the inverted bamboo top. After you cut the butter with the included knife the knife and top have to be cleaned and the butter returned to the dish. This is a big song and dance to get a few pats of butter. Of course you could pre slice them but this is all in my opinion more trouble than it is worth. I suppose you could take this to the dinner table and handle the stick of butter with your fingers or just leave it out. Not really too sanitary. This might work for cream cheese although the bamboo will still be hard to clean. Remains unused weeks later. Either decor or junk.
