It works, sides holding it in place are on springs so they will move. Doesn’t stay perfectly in place but works really well in general. Definitely looks obviously plastic in real life and would never pass for wood or metal.

This little thing is much better than I expected! It’s quite sturdy and seems to stay in place even though I have mine over an armrest slip cover (though you CAN knock it off the armrest if you aren’t paying attention, or kick it off if you’re having a nap). It holds quite a bit with no issue. I don’t think the clamps will leave marks, they seem to be strong enough to keep things stable but not so strong that they leave dents once removed. I will say that it’s a little cheap looking, it’s not really an attractive thing, but I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It would be nice if there was a little cutout for charging cords but I’m sure a Dremel will fix that in seconds, and I don’t fault it for that. I think this will last a long time and be very useful when I lose my end table to the Christmas tree. There’s not much to go wrong with it really. Very happy and I would recommend it if cosmetics aren’t much of a problem. ... show more

My husband is always complaining he doesn’t have anywhere to put his coffee. I bought him this to solve the problem. Unfortunately it doesn’t. It works great for remote controls, but it’s really not sturdy enough to trust hot coffee on your couch. If you look at it closely it’s pretty cheap and looks plasticky. If you’re looking for something just to put some remotes on then I guess it’s fine. The other problem is if you’d like to actually use the armrest or lay your head down on the end of your couch arm then this product isn’t the one for you. ... show more

So I had one of these before from an online shopping company but it broke within a year. This one is made of plastic rather than wood so hopefully it will last longer. It has a textured surface and it was easy to set up. The springs on the arms are very sturdy so it took a little effort as the arm of my chair is wide.. The fit is snug and stays in place. I have used it for meals and to place drinks and so far so good. It can hold a medium sized plate probably about 8-9drinking glasses( just to give you and idea of its capacity. It is great for tv remotes and it can substitute for a writing area too!! I just gave a lower star rating at the end as it feels like a cheap plastic. It is worth buying though and clean up is a breeze. The non slip coaster that it comes with is really handy too ... show more

It looks cheap, is cheap, but still gets the job done, and grips onto the couch good. It came with a strange looking cupholder (looks like a giant black button) but that grips pretty good too.
