I love these pencils. My kids are homeschooled. We go through pencils like crazy. We have tried almost every pencil on the market. I had no idea there are so many differences in the way pencils are made and what they are made of. Dollar store pencils break easily and you can sharpen them forever and never get a nice point, or the sharpener eats them to the eraser. But Ticonderoga's last! It's a little ironic that I'm writing my review of a Ticonderoga on a keyboard...nonetheless, this is the pencil to get if you truly care about the marks you make in the world. If you seek out fine marking instruments the way other people seek out a fine cheese, this is the one for you – no imitation cheddar singles here. A pencil is a pencil. But the HARD lead pencil offers many advantages, particularly to an outdoorsman. Ballpoint and soft pencil writing gets washed off and blurred when wet, but the #3 pencil imprint stays put. Imagine leaving a note on the path describing where you are going and rescue folks can't read it because the paper got wet. Also #3 pencils do not have to be sharpened as often and last longer. Old school product, but I still use them and carry them hunting, camping and hiking. Even a stub of one can write. Wouldn't happen often but a pencil could save your life in the mountains. ... show more

This is most definitely one of the best pencils you can buy. The graphite looks good and the eraser works well. As a musician and composer, I need to constantly write and erase. These pencils work perfectly for that purpose. These pencils are made with real wood and high quality graphite. This allows the pencil to be sharpened easily and with precision. The graphite is strong in that it does not break easily. This allows the pencil to be sharpened to a fine point without breaking off easily. This facilitates writing and drawing with great precision. The eraser works extremely well, unlike many other pencils. In my experience, the eraser has never stiffened, rarely breaks off, and always seems to work as well as it should, no matter how old the pencil is. The eraser works well enough to be used as precisely as the graphite. Overall, I would recommend these pencils to anyone who is looking for high quality pencils. ... show more

I figured these were obsolete by now. When I found out they weren't, I figured they would be $20 apiece due to the price of wood. When we saw the great quality if each pencil after their timely arrival, we decided we would buy them in increments and use them to build a house.
