I literally only got this because I needed the 0.5mm barrel to hold a 3B lead. I couldn't find an affordable 3B lead mechanical pencil so... This turned out not only to be affordable but I really like the way it's made. Other than the fact that this comes at a great price with 2 pencils & also includes lead and eraser refills, there's more to like - PRO: ++Well-made and well-thought-out design. Wish I'd heard of these before now. ++ The lead release is unique in where it's placed and how well it works. ++ The rubberized grips at the bottom make this comfortable to hold and write with. I tend to grip pens & pencils tightly and some of them are not always comfortable when taking a lot of notes. ++ The retractable eraser is cool. ++ In addition to the 2 pencils with leads, there are 6 lead & 2 eraser refills. CONS: - - While the grip is really comfy, I do have to turn the pen so that it fits the best way. - - I'm not crazy about the hardness of 0.5 lead. But that is not why I bought this. - - The package gives no info on how to use the pen. I wouldn't know about being able to adjust the eraser if it wasn't mentioned by other customers. - - The eraser is not that great. It does an okay job but the lead is a hard type (HB- Hard Black) so... Also, the eraser has that gritty feel while using it. I prefer a softer one. This kind gives me that "nails on chalkboard" feeling. On the plus side, it erases my Frixion erasable ink! OVERALL - you cannot beat this deal. If you like the HB lead type this is a steal since you are getting a total of 8 leads, 4 erasers, and the 2 instruments. I'm going to keep searching for a 3B lead in this brand and setup. In the meantime, I have replacement leads in 3B so... ... show more

The PaperMate Clearpoint pencils work as described. They are easy to use and comfortable to hold. The lead advances as described and the eraser does a good job. I like everything about these mechanical pencils.

I really love how they write. It looks so sharp and it makes my handwriting look sooo much better. Great for school. The only thing that is an issue for me is how fast the lead breaks. Its almost every time I try and use it, it breaks, and I don’t even press down that hard. Other than that it’s good

    • The Lead Doesn't Keep On BREAKING!

I've been using Paper Mate mechanical pencils to do my Crossword Puzzles for decades. But in the last few years it's been VERY frustrating because the "usual" 0.7 leads that come with most of them keeps on breaking. It's VERY annoying! Obviously the quality of the leads must have changed because this didn't used to happen for all those early years. So I decided to order this set with 0.9 (thicker) leads and guess what? I've been using one of these pencils for weeks now and the lead hasn't broken a single time! The only problem I had was that although they say they may come in various colors, the ones I got are the deep blue and lime green that's shown in the picture here and personally I would have preferred a different color if given a choice. ... show more
