My son has become a total pencil snob and will only use Ticonderoga pencils. When these went on sale, I stocked up and bought ten packs of 12, and 4 packs of 96. Even with daily school use and constant drawing, he still hasn’t made his way through them all 6 years later! Great quality pencils that last — definitely worth it if you can catch them on sale.

The Dixon Ticonderoga Wood Cased Black Core #2 HB pencil is the one I look for when I buy pencils for myself and for my kids. I do a lot of note-writing and sketching in conjunction with my job, and this pencil feels good to write with, has exactly the softness of graphite that I prefer, and it even smells good. My son mentioned the smell. I had gotten him the Economy Dixon pencils for school, and he says those ones smell like paint. One reason why I chose to write this review, was to compare the Ticonderoga with the Economy line. Aside from the smell, the Ticonderoga graphite is a little bit softer than the Economy, and the eraser is about 3mm longer. The pencil shafts of the two are nearly identical in length. I recently purchased the Charles Leonard Multi-Hole Pencil Sharpener (#89508) and set about testing it with these two lines of pencils. Both sharpened effortlessly, but I noticed that, while the diameter of the Ticonderoga pencil corresponds exactly to the size of the "Standard" setting on the sharpener, I had trouble inserting the Economy pencil with that setting. Adjusting the setting up to the next size was necessary. Having the opening of the pencil sharpener closely match the diameter of the pencil barrel is key to easily keeping the pencil in the right position for sharpening. I have read complaints about both the Ticonderoga and the Economy pencils being difficult to sharpen. A "one-size fits all" pencil sharpener may actually be the problem. Also, sometimes a particular lot of pencils may get through quality control that has the graphite core off-center. That is a pencil that may make you swear. Many of those novelty pencils that your kids get in birthday party goodie bags may make you swear when you try to sharpen them. I have had perhaps one or two Dixon pencils of both lines that had this problem. But never a whole box. If you buy a box of Dixon pencils and it was a bad lot, I recommend that you contact Prang to see if they would give you a coupon for a free box.

Great Pencils

This is most definitely one of the best pencils you can buy. The graphite looks good and the eraser works well. As a musician and composer, I need to constantly write and erase. These pencils work perfectly for that purpose. These pencils are made with real wood and high quality graphite. This allows the pencil to be sharpened easily and with precision. The graphite is strong in that it does not break easily. This allows the pencil to be sharpened to a fine point without breaking off easily. This facilitates writing and drawing with great precision. The eraser works extremely well, unlike many other pencils. In my experience, the eraser has never stiffened, rarely breaks off, and always seems to work as well as it should, no matter how old the pencil is. The eraser works well enough to be used as precisely as the graphite. Overall, I would recommend these pencils to anyone who is looking for high quality pencils.

Great pencils! I use these for drawing as a hobbyist, my art teacher in high school used these as a budget option and they’ve been wonderful quality for someone who casually draws. Very easy to use as any other pencil and tend to last awhile.

Value and Top Quality!

A pencil is a pencil... so they say. I have to tell you that I used this brand of pencil for quite some time and I am more than pleased at the quality and sharpness of the pencil in its graphite point. The pencil is easy to sharpen without breaking, eraser is a lot better than expected (no smudging), non toxic certification and especially its graphite point (nice and dark). While using it, the pencil is easy to put to paper and is smooth to write with. Sharpening the pencil is even easier. Why? Other pencils I have used, while sharpening them, takes an extra few turns on the electric sharpener to actually make it sharp. I suspect the wood or synthetic materials used in competitor pencils makes it useless to sharpen and having to keep sharpening a pencil until is it a small nub is not good enough. I like the feel of the pencil as well. Easy to hold and use. I realize this is just a pencil but I recommend the Dixon Ticonderoga pencils... I am now convinced, these pencils holds it own and its writing materials are far better than expected.

Best Pencils I've Found

The pencils finally arrived. And they work just as expected. Ticondergo is a well-trusted brand. however, having them ship through Amazon was a pain in the butt! If you can find it in person, I would recommend that. It isn’t worth the hassle of expecting it to be delivered via UPS/Amazon. Plus, if the package is dropped or handled poorly, the lead inside will break.

Just Pencils Folks!

Plain, simple, ordinary but inherently useful pencils to have on hand when you need them. I have sharpened one so far and it held up well in the electric pencil sharpener showing that the lead was nice and straight. Have not used the eraser so can not speak to that. I just wanted a box of these available in my kitchen catch-all drawer so when I needed a pencil I knew where to look. If I have a serious need of a pencil for serious drawing then I trek to my studio where I have every density known to man to draw with along with a variety of erasers, plunk myself down at my drawing station and proceed to draw. These pencils are for quick and easy access if and/or when I might need one to draw a circle on a piece of parchment to fit in a baking pan, a photo copy of something I want to use or whatever small task presents itself. This box should last a nice long while.

Good Quality, Smooth Writing.

These pencils are top notch. I got exactly what I paid for. Let me begin with the durability, They last incredibly long unlike other pencils I've used which I had to sharpen every so often. The lead is of good quality and I can write more without taking breaks to sharpen it. The nib doesn't break with slight pressure, you could potentially shade with them as well. The eraser is again, very good quality, the only down side being it sometimes leaves a skid mark if you keep erasing from the same point, but that problem prevails with all pencil erasers. You don't need to press too hard either. The feel. The pencil feels great in my hand. It is well balanced and comfortable to grip. Writing with it is very smooth on many a surface. The tip is absolutely wonderful, it glides across the surface of the paper. It is the perfect resistance that you'd expect from a classic pencil. Overall I give this a 5 star because of the amazing quality and for the price this is a no brainer.
