  • Works well
The dock works with my XPS 15 9500. It did make an electric noise but disabling the intel turbo in the bios fixed it. I also updated the firmware. My only complaint is that when rebooting into the bios the dock keyboard and mouse did not pass through and I had to hook up another mouse which shows a lack of interoperability but not a show stopper. Was in perfect condition for a "refreshed" product. ... show more

  • Breaks after one year
Edit: Exactly one year after starting to use this unit, it starts acting up. Do yourself a favor and Google for "Your dock fan has failed.". This is too short of a life time for such a high price item. Below my initially enthusiastic review because everything seemed to work so well... I order this docking station to run my Ubuntu XPS 13 9370 as a workstation during the Corona pandemic home office. It's almost perfect. The closed laptop wakes from suspend when I connect the docking station. I can send it back to sleep and wake up again with the power button. I can connect one or more large monitors via display port or HDMI, various USB 3 devices such as keyboard, external web cam, and sound bar, and conventional headphones. Dell participates in LVFS, so it is a piece of cake to update the firmware of both laptop and docking station, really pleasing! Now the glitches that may not all be caused by the dock but manifest when I am using it. The laptop frequently does not recognize the USB keyboard after wake from suspend, sleeping and waking again usually gets it back. Connecting the headphones does not trigger the usual switch from speakers the headphones as I am used to when connecting directly to the laptop, and I never got the microphone of the headset to work, probably output only, seems a minor issue but it's sufficiently annoying to be noted. How to connect a headset? Reach to the laptop (eeek), or buy a USB or Bluetooth device. Nevertheless, overall, this is a great docking station! ... show more

  • Disappointing unreliable dock
Strangely, Dell.com does not recognize the Service Tag of the "renewed" dock I received. Hopefully that doesn't mean it's counterfeit or from a dumpster dive. Sometimes, this dock works: the Dell XP 13 laptop usually recognizes. The power button on the dock sometimes works. Most of the time the time the Dell monitors power wake up and are seen by the laptop. The problem is this behavior is so unpredictable that the device is maddening for regular users. Even after updating the firmware, doing a "reset", updating drivers, you can never tell when it'll "just work" and when something - maybe a downstream USB device, maybe the output to the monitors, maybe the laptop won't wake when the power button is pressed or pressing a key. Don't buy this docking station, at least not renewed, even if you have all Dell goodies. ... show more

  • Renewed but not tested? Unit arrived Dead on Arrival
The docking station arrived, it was well packaged in generic packaging. However, once connected and plugged in the device power light blinked, the fan started (yes, it has a fan) and then went dark, No power, monitor or network connection through the docking station. It would seem the devices would be tested when remanufactured but apparently this one missed quality control. Returned and purchasing from another supplier. ... show more
