  • Odd shape but it works!
This bag is made from tough but pliable material. They say the odd angled flap is to allow access "from any angle". So far, it appears to let stuff fall out easier, but time will tell. The shoulder straps are easy to add or remove, but the angled shape makes for an awkward back pack. Recommend just using one strap and tossing the bag over your shoulder. The top flap does a reasonable job keeping water away from the main zipper, but water seeps through the seams. Water also leaks surprisingly easily into the zippered end pocket despite the waterproof looking zipper. The material itself appears waterproof, but if it rains, keep your gear in plastic bags. I tested this in the rain against the North Face Base Camp Medium duffel and the Thule top flap works better to keep the rain out of the main zipper. They both carry about the same amount of gear but the North Face is more comfortable as a back pack. Tough call but I returned the North Face Base Camp and kept the Thule Chasm 70L due to its better water resistance. ... show more

  • Exactly what I was looking for!
Color: Black Style: Small (40l)
I bought this bag primarily for air travel - I take a lot of 2-3 day business trips and needed something durable, deceptively large, and slick looking enough for business as well as leisure trips. This bag is everything I wanted it to be. I can fit 2-3 days worth of business clothes. I just used it to pack for a week long trip at the beach, minus shoes. I use the shoulder strap or duffle straps when traveling in a suit, looks sharp. When I am traveling for leisure I use it as a backpack. As a carry on it fits perfectly in the overhead bins, takes up less room than normal carry-ons. It also slides under the seat nicely if you have to do that, it just can't be overstuffed since airline seats are shrinking day by day. I highly recommend this bag, its been all I wanted it to be. ... show more

  • Every pocket every feature reviewed! Best multi activity bag I’ve had
Color: Roarange Style: Small (40l)
I went with the red 40l. This bag has been pretty damn amazing. It is the best kick around convertible duffle/pack ever. I actually prefer to wear it on my back with the bottom of the duffle against my back. I guess I don’t want the black facing out like it shows in the images. And - I almost didn’t buy it because I didn’t want to buy it if it was only comfortable with the black side facing out. I can say it is just as comfortable either way and confirm it if anyone else was wondering. A few other points I’d mention/ but cannot even take a single star away for- 1) Pro- it’s very!!! waterproof!! It’s amazing at the Ymca pool even on the floor where every swim team athlete is doing flip turns... But it doesn’t have a wet clothes compartment if your wet/ sweaty clothes are in the bag and you leave it in your car or wherever (while at work after the gym like meeee...) the entire bag is a damp hot baked potato inside when you open it up later. Tip- Because I button back my duffle straps I’ve actually used them to weave my towel through or snap my swim suit and carry wet or whatever items on the outside of my bag sometimes. Or.... make sure you use an alternative wet item specific bag. I don’t even think I’d prefer a built in one because I’d rather continuously wash my wet item bag anyway. 2) Pro- the D pocket entry flap on this 40l is pretty great for storing a looooot more stuff than you can assume from the images. Tip- initially out of the box the zippers are stiffer and you might think it’s a little annoying to zip quick but it does break in after a little while and the zippers are not as stiff they start to move better without wrestling. Maybe a minor con- you can put quite a bit in the D flap pocket... sometimes the weight of what you put in there is annoying when you’re getting in and out of your bag.. not worth taking away any stars. 3) Pro- The small external zip pocket on the top of the bag looks small in the images but it’s pretty deceiving. For perspective I can fit 4 full size deodorants in the pocket plus my 7plus iPhone and car keys. **What I do really think would have taken this bag to the next level** I wish... in the main internal compartment of the bag some side pockets were offered on the long sides and even at the base so that I could better organize my things. When I wear the bag as a backpack everything in it settles to the small of my back anyway and then the items become an unorganized pile of stuff. Again I wouldn’t take a star for it... it would propel this bag to the next level though in my opinion. If I could add anything else. Maybe a z-stap and buckle so that thinks could be held on externally like a towel or a hoodie. And possibly for a women’s fram it’s nice to have a chest strap as on because depending on how narrow your shoulders are it can improve the fit near the armpits pulling the straps in towards each other. I do like to add a carabiner to my bags... Oh and I’m also 5’4” 135lb female, highly active the 40l bag sits from the base of my neck and ends right at my pant line- maybe I’ll attach some photos. I wish the images also showed the bag on a female frame. The shoulder straps are comfortable. I’ve hade the bag loaded with 3 pairs of running shoes, a work outfit, casual shoes, jump rope, wrist wraps my goggles, cap, ear plug boxes, workout journal, some snacks, extra workout pants tanks and bras, wooden handstand blocks 3x3x4, hand chalk, a small hygiene kit, and towel and didn’t even bat an eyelash trying to zip it. I still had more space. Last thing I’ll mention and I almost feel meh- stupid. The back pack straps double as the duffle strap.. I’m not sure if it’s written anywhere. Initially I thought I didn’t receive one and hardly cared anyway till daysssssss later it was some sort of massive realization out of no where. I’m pretty happy I didn’t write to the company saying I was missing one. Not my finest moment but in case the struggle is experienced by others. It’s probably written somewhere in the product description. 🤦🏼♀️ ... show more

  • Roomy duffel with great carrying options
This is a great duffel bag. It's plenty roomy. I had a 60 liter REI duffel bag that I took on a long trek; it proved to be just a little too small for my needs over two weeks and it could not be carried as a backpack. The 70 liter Thule can be carried as a backpack (great for moving around the airport) and the straps can be converted to a shoulder sling (I use this the most). It also has traditional two grip handles that can be strapped down out of the way. The bottom is rugged and though I haven't used it much, it is much more durable that the material on the REI bag. Lastly, my two weeks of gear (including a sleeping bag cinched down in a compression bag) fit in this bag with room to spare. I wish the small zippered pocket was lockable but the big zipper that opens the lid can be locked (if you bring the lock). I want to stress that the material should last many years as it is thick. ... show more

  • Extremely durable duffel and nice blue colors but zippers are hard work
Color: Poseidon Style: Small (40l)
This was going to be my new daily gym/pool bag. It seems waterproof and extremely durable. I love the zippers at first glance but they are really difficult to work. I think it would have been better to use more of a cordura material and not so much waterproof material so maybe the zippers would be smoother. This way, its hard work. The big u shaped opening and the carry options are cool though. It works really well in backpack mode (my favorite) and has load adjust clips at the top and also at the bottom of the straps so its reasonably comfy, too. A+ deal and fast shipping but its a pain to open and close with these zippers. ... show more

  • Such a great travel purchase
Love these bags. My husband and I traveled to Rwanda for 2 weeks for a wedding, Safari and gorilla trekking. Because of the small helicopters we were traveling in, we couldn’t use large rigid baggage. I’m so glad we chose these. They were so durable being thrown around. They were versatile with carrying or backpack style. We did pack them full so they got heavy but packing cubes helped us stay organized. I love the internal pockets. I can’t recommend these enough. This was our fist Thule brand purchase and I’m hooked. I even bought the little coordinating electronic organizers. ... show more
