  • Great net! Worth the price? Maybe.
Why would you spend $50 on Thule branded net when there are less expensive items on Amazon? Quality and ease of use. I've this net for 2 months now and have already used it on a handful of trips, both camping and to the airport. What I like most about this basket net is the compact size and footprint when not in use -- folds up quite small and comes with an re-usable mesh cinch sack -- and how well it expands and holds on when deployed. I bought this to pair with the Thule 859 Canyon Roof Mount Cargo Basket which I've also fitted with the optional Thule 8591 Canyon Cargo Basket Extension. At first I was doubtful that the net would be able to stretch over all of my biking and camping gear in the basket, but this net expands to several times its at rest size and it secured everything very well. The elastic netting is made of thick cords and seems like it will last for many years of use. The hooks on this netting are sized to fit snug with the Thule tubular steel used to make the basket which added to my confidence in deploying it. Little finger holes on the hooks (made of strong plastic) make an easy handle to remove the hooks. If there is any downside to this product is that it loves to grab onto itself. The hooks are great at snagging and re-snagging onto the elastic cords. Not the end of the world, but it does slow deployment of the net a bit -- just know that it'll take you an extra minute or two if you find yourself at the airport curb trying to wrestle this thing. All in all, another very good if not a bit pricey Thule product that I'd only get to pair with another Thule product to ensure the highest level of compatibility. ... show more

  • ratchet straps a better way to go
This is a good net - but depends on what you are using it for it may not be "great" unless you're packing your rack full and high, the net itself is too big. high quality for sure but having to secure it by stretching it to find hook points wasn't difficult but a bit tedious. i have a low garage clearance of 6' 8" so height of car, plus rails, plus rack it didn't allow me to stack the roof basket high, so when installing the cargo net cover, i had to stretch it all the way under the rack and find hook points. would have been easier as a two person job as ONE would have to hook on once side and pull and yank on the other. If the pile was higher to fill the net itself, it would have been more challenging for one person. i ended up picking up ratchet straps which is easier to use for what i personally need it for. ... show more

  • Be careful LOAD MIGRATION!!
So I might have put it to an extreme test going over Pacheco Pass with high gusts warnings but make sure you stretch the net extremely tight. I pulled over after a series of heavy gusts, to my horror my load had nearly completely came out of the basket and was being held precariously like in a net sack just moments away from sliding off the back of my Outback. Hook the net extremely tight not just to the thick side rails but under the basket. Im probably just gonna use tie downs next time. Used with the Thule Canyon XL ... show more

  • Held Everything in place
I had 2 large bins of camping stuff on my roof rack and didn't want to bother using ratchet straps, so I bought this instead. I was very skeptical at first and wasn't sure that it can hold large items securely on the roof rack. After 120 mile trip (mostly freeway but about 10 miles were off road), everything stayed in place and remained intact. Highly recommended! ... show more
