Saved me from many hours of digging and a few blisters
This review is for " Insaga 2Pack 1.6x9 Shallow Planting Auger Drill Bit for Flower Bulbs & Seedlings + 3x12 Garden Auger, Fits 3/8" Hex Drill, No-Dig Gardening Tool" I had 72 Kurapia plants that were being delivered and needed to be put into the soil the day they arrived. My soil is clay/loam that gets very hard in the Arizona sun and also has a fair number of stones in it. Digging 72 holes would have taken me a couple days at least and more than a few blisters. I ordered the 2-auger set in the hope that they would make the job easier. I figured that if the 3" auger would not dig the holes very well by itself, I would use the smaller one to drill a pilot hole, then switch to the 3" to finish to size. (Like when drilling metal.) As it turned out, the 3" auger completed each hole in just a few seconds, allowing me to complete the planting in a couple hours rather than days. I used it in a 1/2" variable speed cordless drill with a fully charged 4ah battery. When I was finished, the battery still had half the power left. The screw-like spiral tip on the 3" auger I believe is the key to its ability to penetrate the hard ground. Other augers that I looked at merely had a cone or flat blade for a point and I'm convinced that they would not have worked as well, if at all. Added to that is the fact that the auger spirals are welded full length to the center shaft. Others are only welded in a couple spots. This is a quality product and WELL WORTH THE PRICE. The only wear that is evident is a little of the paint (or is it powder coat?) that wore off the auger edges from grinding through the dirt, and small insignificant dents in the paint on the hexagon shaped drive. I like that it is hexagon rather than round as the drill chuck can get a better hold on it for the torque required to do the work. I considered removing the paint on the drive before using it to prevent any possibility of slippage but decided to try it as it comes first. I never gave it a second thought as it worked flawlessly. At less than 14 dollars including tax delivered to my door the next day, I will absolutely rate this an excellent value and recommend it to any gardener. I wish that i would have had it when I dug the trench for the irrigation lines as it would have made that job a lot easier also. (Just drill a bunch of holes in a row, then clean it up with the shovel.) At 12 inches in length, it would have made the trench plenty deep for the irrigation lines. I used a permanent marker to mark the 4" depth that each hole needed to be for the small plants. If I were to never use it again, it was still worth it, but I'm absolutely keeping it for any future planting projects that we have.

Awesome Drill Auger Bit

The Insaga Threaded Auger Drill bit (4''x 32'') took longer to receive then it did to do it's job! It worked fantastic to drill a 4''X 36" hole in hard packed sand; to install a 4" drain line under a block staircase (I didn't have to dismantle and reinstall steps). Took approx. 5-10 mins to unwrap, install on drill, drill/clear hole of dirt, and install pipe! I was able to bury drill in hole and gain an extra 4" in length, I would definitely recommend for use in soft soil & can't wait to try in hard clay. The spiral tip helped to draw auger bit in and bit reversed out of hole nicely, bringing loose soil with it. I used an mud mixing electric drill in which the chuck looses up while in use, causing hole to enlarge a bit, but wasn't a big deal! Coating wore off very little for drilling of sand and bit held up well! Saved me 2-3 hours of pounding a 4" pipe through with a 3lb hammer and piece of wood &/or taking Steps apart/reinstalling! The savings in time was worth the expense of the auger bit, I will buy other sizes if I find the need!

Built well

This auger stood up to a beating, and it still has many many uses left in it. I attached it to a half inch electric drill and attempted to bore holes in the ground in Nevada hardpan. As expected, it was NOT able to drill beautiful deep holes in hard pan. But it did more holes were the soil wasn’t like concrete, and again as I hit rocks and really hard earth, this auger did not bend or break, etc. etc.. Don’t buy it expecting miracles, but now that it will do what it’s designed to do, I’m happy with it

Shank snapped during first use.

Broke during first use. The shank snapped right off. I was using this to drill soil that was compacted by not too hard - you would say easy to dig if you were shoveling- and after about two minutes the shank broke off where it attaches to the main auger body. You can see from the photo that there's not much material holding this on. Very cheaply made! For little more effort they could have made this auger indestructible, instead it was designed to fail.
