  • Top-notch Boot, but not quite "broken in" out of the box.
Size: 10.5 Color: Tobacco Oil-tanned
I'm a big fan of quality work boots, as I've spent the last 30 years plus on concrete floors, so I don't go cheap on my feet. I bought a pair of Wescos about 7 weeks ago, but they weren't steel-toed. Changed jobs about 3 weeks ago and had to have steel toes. I've never found anything that competes with my Wescos, but these are proving to be a good quality boot at half the cost. The fact that my new employer chips in $100.00 to help cover the cost doesn't hurt either. While these boots are not "broke-in" right away, they are tolerable for a few days until they do get broke in. My only issue has been with the right boot, which has been pretty painful on the side of my foot, due to it being a little too narrow, but that is probably more to do with my foot, than the boot. However, I've never had that issue with any other boot I've broken in over the years. I will say that they are pretty comfy right out of the box, and you'd never know you were wearing a steel-toed boot. I've spent a lot of time squatted down on concrete over the last week with them and I've never felt the steel toe at all. The tread is definitely less-aggressive than my Vibram lug Wesco soles, but they seem to do quite well for not slipping around. I've also managed to not have any blisters on my feet while wearing them and that says a lot, considering I'm logging about 12 miles a day on stairs, concrete floors, gravel and step ladders. This is my first pair of steel-toed boots, so I really don't have anything in that regard to compare to, but I believe that within time; these could become very comfortable. The last two days of work before the holiday weekend, I noticed a definite improvement on how my feet felt after I got off work. That's after working a 12 hour day and a 10. These boots go on at 3:00 am and they don't come off until 7:00 or 8:00 in the evening, six days a week. I'm not sure there' a boot made that would keep my feet from hurting under these circumstances, so I suppose you have to take that into consideration. The test for any boot is how well the'll hold up over time, so I'll post back when I've got some serious miles under them, but as it stands I'm quite happy with them and they are a quality, American-made boot. Update after a about a year and a half. I said I'd be back and these boots are still going strong. As a sheet metal worker, we put our boots through hell and back and these have certainly been there and done that. I've recommended these to every worker I'm around. While my buddy's Redwings are coming apart on the soul and the toe is worn out; my Thorogoods are still going strong. I had a fitbit for a while, before I lost it off my wrist, and it indicated that I averaged about 17,000-22,000 steps per day and 10-12 miles. There are days that the only part of my body that doesn't hurt at the end of the day is my feet, thanks to these boots. Mile for mile and dollar for dollar, nothing beats these boots for durability and comfort. I wish they'd make a composite toe, waterproof model for architectural work in the winter time though, as the lack of waterproof and a cold steel toe can sometimes wear on you, but other than that; there's nothing finer on the market than these boots. If there was, I'd buy it, regardless of the price. My review was originally 4 stars, since I'm hard to please, but that has been bumped to 5, simply because of their longevity and comfort over the long-haul. ... show more

  • Great work boots Great work boots
Size: 9.5 Color: Tobacco Oil-tanned
Great boots, comfort, looks, wearability and fit. Take a couple days to break in. Fold the tongue. Tie well. Put obenauf's lp on them lightly. Wear merino wool boot socks with them. Get out there and go. Thorogood makes a good american made product.

  • This is the last boot you will ever buy. This is the last boot you will ever buy.
Size: 10 Color: Tobacco Oil-tanned
I've worn cheap boots such as Wolverine, Ansa, etc., I've tried some mid level boots such as Timberland, Golden Fox, etc., I've had high end boots such as Danner, and was previously a die hard Red Wing guy.....No more. These boots put all others to shame. I was skeptical about buying online but had to take my chances due to the lack of good, comfortable, steel toe work boots. I first took these boots out of the box and immediately noticed that the quality of craftsmanship was WAY above par. The seams on this boot are flawless, the leather is supple and soft similar to Georgia boot but of better quality. The soles of the boot are soft and have some impact resistance on their own. If you press the edges they give a bit like the treads on a new tire. The stitching is heavy duty especially around the sole and mock toe. The tongue and eyelet strip are sewn together to form a single piece which should offer some water protection to about ankle depth. So as far as first appearances go this boot nailed it. Trying on the boot for the first time i noticed something I've never noticed before. The boot comes with its own high grade insole. When removed there is a soft memory foam pad that is secured to the bottom of the boot that the insole sits on. This is no ordinary insole, this rivals good aftermarket athletic shoe insoles that are thick and have extra gel support under the heel and ball of the foot. When i slipped my foot inside the boot i immediately knew i made a good decision buying the boots. The soft leather wraps your foot comfortably and immediately begins to stretch and conform to your foot shape. The best part is that my big toe and pinky toe could not tell where the steel toe began. I've always hated that i could feel the transition from leather to the steel toe in my Red Wings. As the sole would wear down and my foot would gradually shift to one side of the boot because of the uneven wear one of my toes would always lightly rub against the edge of the steel toe. if it gets bad enough it can cause sores on the part of your toes that rub. In these boots i can't get my toes to find the edge of the steel toe and i have a feeling that the sole will wear slower and more even than my Red Wings because it is made of a rubber like material and not the soft foam like my Red Wing chukkas. These boots literally broke in enough in a few hours and they keep getting more comfortable by the hour. I got home from work today and didn't have the need to immediately take my boots off, they might be as comfortable as my Vans but slightly heavier. Speaking of weight these things aren't too bad. They are about the same weight as my old Red Wing 2595's but are more balanced where as the weight is distributed more evenly throughout the entire boot, instead of in the toe like the RW's. I'm a Carpenter, and if you want heirloom quality tools you buy Lie Neilsen tools, if you want heirloom quality boots get these. My size is 10 D, i wear the same size in Red Wings and they are identical. You will need to buy better laces, the ones that come with the boot don't stay tied and are ridiculously long, as is true for most boots. ... show more

  • Do your foot a favor, but these. Do your foot a favor, but these.
Size: 10.5 Wide Color: Tobacco Oil-tanned
I completely agree what I'm about to state is clichè. However, I feel the need to state it, as it is completely true for these boots. "These boots are the most comfortable boots I have worn to date, period." The leather is so soft and pliable; Therefore, there is no "Break-in" period required for these. After using them for a couple of weeks now, They are holding up well, day-to-day scratches buff out easily. I am in construction zones all day everyday, so I have definitely put them through their paces in a relatively short time. While wearing them, due to their low profile, I have experienced no stagnancy issues plagued with other boots I have owned. Which leads to stinky smelly boots. Thank you Thorogood for ensuring these boots are very breathable. My prior work boots were notorious for stagnancy issues. They were the worst I've owned. For those who are wondering about fitment. This is another testament to their build quality by the way. I wear a 10 1/2 in running shoes. In boots generally I wear an 11. However, with these I found the 10 1/2's to fit perfectly. So buy according to your foot size as a shoe versus a boot. Speaking of running shoes. The foot soles and mid-soles are astounding on these. Underneath the foot sole is a memory foam type of material that conforms to your foot over time and really hugs your foot to ensure a perfect step and aid in all day usage without suffering foot-fatigue. Initially I was concerned with the cream colored sole was going to dirty quickly. Although partially true. The material it's comprised of allows for easy cleaning with a simple wash rag and water. Same goes for the leather, a simple cloth and some water to rinse off the day is all you really need to keep them looking fresh as the morning dew. I however, like to use coconut oil once a week to ensure the leather stays fully oiled and maintains the elasticity. What oil you use is completely personally preference. Standard boot oil will do as well. Sticking with the sole of the boot, the MAXwear Wedge sole is fantastic. It adds the perfect amount of cushion and support needed to get me through the day. In addition, climbing and standing on ladder rungs for extended periods of time aren't an issue any longer. The wedge allows for a flat surface to evenly distribute the pressure throughout the entire foot. The laces are a little stiff for the first couple of weeks, but loosen up over time. Plus, the solid brass eyelets and stud hooks are a welcomed addition, as it makes for lacing up and removing the boot an easy task. As I've already mentioned before.. Every aspect of this boot has been WELL thought out by Thorogood. I will continue to buy these boots as long as they make them. ... show more

  • Nice boots Nice boots
Size: 11 Color: Tobacco Oil-tanned
I was going to wait a couple more weeks until I had my thorogood ST moc toe boots completely broke in to write this review. I read a lot of the reviews and most said to get an EE width, that they run wide, they don't. I wear a 11.5 M in asics running shoes. I have always worn an 11 In boots (half size down from tennis shoes) in regular standard medium width and never had to buy wide shoes or work boots. I ordered the EE and had to send back for the reg standard medium width. Glad I did. These basically fit true to size, I was concerned they were going to be too tight and they were just right, my toes had plenty of room with medium wt wool blend socks. Not too wide or too tight. I've had mine for about 2 weeks and my left boot is taking longer to break in. If you can bare the top of your foot just above big toe hurting for 2-3 weeks I would get these boots. They are amazing comfortable boots. I've had other brands, glued on outsole Chinese made boots that are so inconsistent fitting boots that don't compare to the quality and fit of these boots. Before the bottoms of my feet would be sore after 8-10 hrs on concrete all day, not with these. They are pretty comfortable and I think after a couple more weeks they will be even better. This is my first thorogood boots and I would definitely buy again. I love the welt sewn soles. There is a little heel slippage that seams to be going away the more I wear them. There's always room for improvement; these are a solid 4 star, maybe even 4.5. I won't being buying Chinese made boots anymore. I'm staying with thorogood. ... show more

  • BEST LOOKING AND MOST COMFORTABLE WORK BOOTS I'VE EVER OWNED.
Size: 10.5 Wide Color: Tobacco Oil-tanned
I've been working in construction and related fields for 30 years. Have used boots ranging from cheap ones to Doc Marten's to RedWings and everything in between. Finally tried Thorogood's and am glad I did. Cheaper than RedWings and the construction actually seems better to me. A tad bit snug at first, but they do break in quickly and nicely. This is quality leather and the feel and smell of the leather reflects that. On long days, I do not notice my feet at all and that's what you want. Very attractive boots, too. Cannot recommend these enough. In this style, and in the safety toe specifically, get a wider size than you normally take, for comfort in the toe box. Too early to say for sure, but I'd be surprised if these don't last a long time. After a day at work, brush them off with a horsehair brush, wipe with a damp rag and dry with a dry rag, use a boot dryer when necessary, and these will last a long time. ... show more

  • Price Drop = Quality Control Issues, Poor Craftsmanship. Price Drop = Quality Control Issues, Poor Craftsmanship.
Size: 10 Color: Tobacco Oil-tanned
Update - BEWARE PRICE DROPS: I ordered two pairs of these boots when they went on sale for $50 off, and BOTH pairs were defective. They are clearly trying to unload pairs with imperfections and craftsmanship issues without advertising them as such. Do yourself a favor and buy these boots somewhere else. Original Review: I tried on multiple pairs in-store and every pair looked great, but the pair I received from Amazon had some really poor craftsmanship issues. One boot looked perfectly fine, but the leather upper on the other boot was all puckered and wrinkled around the stitching. Some of the stitching along the edges was a bit crooked, but the stitching at the END of that piece, where it comes to a square end towards the toe, was just a rats nest of stitching. Circled in my photos. Looking at the other boot for comparison, this was obviously a construction mistake by whoever built it, and they tried to pass it off as "fixed" by just adding more and more stitches to hold it all together. I understand these are work boots - they're going to take a beating and will never look brand new after the first wear - but spending $200-250 on a pair of boots is a big deal to me and I have no confidence that this boot is going to hold up to years and years of long shifts. If I already noticed a couple of craftsmanship issues just opening the box, what else is wrong with this boot that I'm NOT seeing? What I really don't like is that these exact boots (10 D in Tobacco) are somehow $50 cheaper than everywhere else, even the other sizes for sale here on Amazon, and coincidentally the pair I received was defective out of the box. Feels to me like Thorogood and Amazon KNOW that they have some sub-par, defective boots and are trying to unload them, hoping people don't notice or care because they're on sale. Here's hoping the replacement pair isn't also poor quality. I'm counting this one boot as a lemon, returning the pair for a refund, and buying another pair. I'll be sure to come back with an update either way. (Second pair was ALSO defective, have ALSO been returned. Huge waste of time) ... show more
