I bought this to lock up medications after my child attempted suicide a couple years ago. But this week found out how useless this really is. She was able to break into it easily and quickly by prying the cover up at the corner. The metal bent and some of the CARDBOARD lid detached allowing enough space at the corner to pull out a pill bottle, took all the pills and slipped the bottle back in the box. ... show more

BE CAREFUL ABOUT STORING LIFE SAVING MEDICATION INSIDE THIS!!!!! I bought this case to protect my medication that is potentially harmful if others were to abuse it. That being said I also had life-saving medications in it while traveling. At one point during our travels the lock must have jammed and although the code was 100000% correct it would not release the lock. I was on the verge of experiencing a life threatening medical episode and had my partner not LITERALLY smashed the thing and forced it open I could have ended up in an obviously horrible situation. He attempted to open it with all sorts of items and finally just bent it enough to get my medication out. Please hear this and be careful of a situation like this. I'm not sure if it was a fluke accident or just a faulty batch but in my mind it is most definitely not worth the risk. ... show more

    • Affordable LOW security lock box, with quality control issues

This box is a LOW security product, and should be treated as such. If you are trying to protect opioids or other dangerous / narcotic medications from an adult, teenager, or child, this is not the box for you! If you are looking for something to dissuade casual snooping and nosy relatives, then keep reading. This is the 4th Vaultz product I have owned (the other 3 working fine after many years of light use) and is the first I have ever had an issue with (details below). Many other reviewers here have reported quality control issues before, and I can confirm that those do seem to happen from time to time, so if you purchase this product, be aware that you may have to exchange it if you get a lemon. Pros: - Affordable - Convenient / Easy to use - Available in a wide range of sizes, and in both keyed and combination styles - Nice appearance, both inside and out - Interiors are lined with fabric to prevent damaging contents Cons: (Details below on all of these) - Locks are extremely low security (this applies to both keyed and combination types, I've owned both) - Case itself is low security - appears to be made of thin MDF with an aluminum frame - Quality control issues appear frequent The locks used in these cases are extremely easy to break into. The keyed locks are trivial to pick with something as simple as a bent paperclip (this is not an exaggeration) and can also be easily broken just by inserting a flat-head screwdriver and twisting hard. The combination locks can be decoded without any significant tools, and can also be bypassed completely and non-destructively with a butter knife (meaning someone who does not know the combination can open the case without leaving any signs of damage.) The case itself is not hardened and, although it would leave obvious damage, can simply be pried open with a screwdriver or other prying tool. The metal frame is made of aluminum and is relatively easy to bend, and the side panels themselves are only made of what appears to be fiberboard, and would be easy to cut through. Quality control is definitely an issue with this brand, with many reviewers here reporting locks that stop working after a few weeks, or never worked at all. The specific case I received did have an issue that prevented the lock from opening and closing (the latch was extremely hard to slide back and forth, and I couldn't slide it far enough to fully unlock. To fix this problem I opened the case using the previously mentioned butter-knife trick (thanks youtube!) Once the case was opened, I was able to shine a flashlight into the slot where the latch goes, and saw that adhesive / glue from when they applied the lining had gotten inside the lock and was gumming up the mechanism. I was able to use a pick to slice through and remove the glue from around the locking bar, and that freed everything up and the case works fine now. ... show more

I bought this box to store and manage my mother's medications. I really liked being able to lock up medications to keep my kids and demented father from getting into them. However, my mom was in the hospital for a little while and I did not need to go into the box. When I finally did go back into it, the entire thing was full of mold. I was super surprised and grossed out. I immediately went to my account to see if I could still return it but it had been past the time to return it. I called the customer service number for Vaultz, and the rep who answered was very nice and said he could replace my box. I would have given 5 stars but I am taking off one star due to the molding. I hope this was some type of fluke and not something that happens with this particular box all of the time. I have another Vaultz box that I keep my father's medications in and it looks just fine.     • Stopped Working Within the First Week

We bought this because our 6-year-old thinks they're big enough to handle knives on their own to "help" cook, especially before we wake up on the weekends. The only childproof knife block on the market holds just six knives, so we needed somewhere to safely store the ones we don't often use. This box serves that purpose. However, I only gave it three stars because it is sold as a medication lock box. For small children or on trips, it's fine. But if you seriously want to keep teenagers or adults out of your medications, this box could be easily defeated for two reasons: 1. The sides are made out of flimsy materials that could simply be pierced and peeled open. 2. The edges where the top and bottom meet do not overlap. All you need is a sturdy knife or flathead screwdriver and you could peel it open like a clamshell. So, if you are looking for a serious option to keep medications or money safe, keep looking. But if you need minimum childproofing security, this would work. UPDATE: So, it stopped opening at random. All of my knives are stuck in it. Luckily, the weak points I mentioned earlier will help me reclaim my property before sending it back for a refund. DON'T BUY THIS DEFECTIVE PIECE OF JUNK. ... show more
