I've had these for over 2 years. Very well built, good for winter work conditions. They're waterproof to just above the ankle. Quite comfortable, and fit well, however they are kinda heavy. They take some getting use to because of that.

My Thorogood American Heritage boots had seen better days and I opted to try this FD series boot. My previous steel toe boots gave me a month of break in pain then settled in with good fit and performance. NOW, I received this pair in two days and tried them on with a sore toe and the fit, quality, comfort and look was excellent and I didn't even feel the sore toe. COMFORT FROM DAY ONE. Seem like fairly well made boots with a vibram sole. Unfortunately the sole began detaching after just over a month of wearing. Going to shoe goo it back on but already been looking for a replacement pair of boots. Unlike most of Thorogood's other products this boot was made in China. I've had pretty good luck with Danners and Timberlands in the past, been eyeballing Keen to try next. ... show more

I'm a telecom tech and do lotso of walking and manhole work in Manhattan. These are probably the most comfortable boots I have ever owned in 35 years in the field. They are comparatively light, waterproof and have really good treads for slip free walking on ice and mud. They also did not need a brake in period. I highly recommend. ... show more

The boots fit well. The quality is good so far, weight is fine. Comfortable after a little break in, Where them around the house before your first day on the job. They are everything I was looking for in a boot. I think they could use a little more insulation, but that’s me. Also, snow seal, is a good idea. If they last two years.     • Amazing boots!
These were comfortable right out of the box. I'm a refinery worker and they have held up well. I will be buying avian when the time comes. AMERICAN MADE is what made me look at these in the first place!

EDIT: initial review made May 2021. It is now May 2022. The tread is completely worn off the boots. Although they have lasted throughout the year and have been a solid pair of boots, I now have to buy yet another pair of boots. One of the metal clips to hold the laces also broke off last week. I was looking at these boots, once again, but it is absolutely disgusting how much your company thinks you can charge for them. As of now I will never buy another pair of boots from you again. You have increased the price 25%, 1 year later. That is two and a half times the national average of the current inflation. You're not ever going to get my money again. ---------------------- OLD REVIEW: Hopefully I'm not shooting myself in the foot with an early review, but I'll update if anything changes. I discovered Thorogood boots around 3 years ago. I've had the 8" and 6" versions of the Genflex3 series. The 6" boots I still use from time to time. I lived in the taller boots for the past two and a half years, spending 40 to 50 hours a week in them. (I work in some of the roughest environments you can imagine.) A year ago I had a cobbler stitch a new outsole tread on them. They eventually started separating at the seams. Two and a half years was not a bad duration, in my opinion. I looked around for new boots, but decided to settle on these. They are more expensive than other manufacturers of the same quality. My gut told me that Thorogood hadn't changed its sizing, though, so I took the gamble. My main initial impression: mind blown. These are somehow half as heavy as the Genflex3 series. They feel like the weight of sneakers. The foam cushion inside the outsole is a game changer. I feel like I could jog in these boots. They arrived on a weekend and I broke them in wearing them around the house. They didn't leave any black scuff marks on the tile floor. I went ahead and greased them, which sadly change the beautiful new studhorse color to a darker brown, but I needed them ready for work. Do yourself a favor, stop looking around, and buy these boots. ... show more

I really appreciate these boots. I have two pairs of these, one is for work and the other is my primary everyday footwear, so basically all I ever wear, very comfortable.
