This has a similar texture to other vegan protein powders, particularly pea protein, which is one of the namain ingredients. It blends up well (I followed the instructions and used 12 ounces of unsweetened soy milk). The flavor is extremely sweet despite a lack of added sugars. The vanilla flavor is also very prominent and probably artificial-- this does not taste like a vanilla bean. As protein powders go, though, this is quite okay. I added cardamom, cinnamon, and ginger and liked the result, which tone down the flavor of the protein powder itself. Thorne is a premium brand and this is priced accordingly. It is possible to find far less expensive comfortable products, but if you want a Thorne product, this is a reasonable price to pay for it. Personally, I prefer to blend my own protein powders together and probably won't purchase this again, especially considering the cost. But again, if what you want is a heavily flavored brand name, protein powder. This would be an excellent option

Flavor Name: Vanilla
This protein powder has a pleasant light taste (I got the vanilla flavor) and isn't over-sweet. It mixes more smoothly than is typical of pea protein (maybe because of the other types of protein, maybe the MCT helps). The protein-to-calories ratio is excellent. Around ~5.5 calories per gram of protein is closer to what's often found in mid-range whey protein and is really good for a flavored vegan powder. The ingredient list is exceptionally clean and free of preservatives, fillers, and emulsifiers. All hyperbole aside, it is really an unusually clean list (and I have had probably over hundred different protein powders by this point) Thorne is a great brand and one of the few supplement makers to get NSF certification, one of the few meaningful supplement certifications there is. Really the only negatives here are the inclusion of MCT oil (most people already get more than enough fat in their diets) and the cost, which is just as high as you would expect from gourmet-level vegan protein powder.

I tried the vanilla – upon opening the container, you get a light fragrance, but it isn’t overwhelming. The protein powder is very fine, and it was used along with some blueberries, flax seed oil ,kefir and milk to make a protein smoothie. The powder mixed very well in the blender with the other ingredients and the resulting texture was not overly gritty or grainy. In comparison to whey protein, I found the texture of this product to be slightly more granular. The vanilla aroma and flavor were noticeable yet subtle. The vanilla combined with the monk fruit used in this powder provided just the right amount of flavor and sweetness, making the smoothie tasty and easy to drink. The recommended 2 scoops provides 22 grams of protein with 130 calories and 2 net carbs. Thorne is a no-nonsense supplement brand I have trusted for years, and this is another quality product from them that is Made in USA.

The flavor is very good, with a deep, rich chocolate taste. That said, unless you add a generous amount of liquid, it does lean a bit on the sweet side. I’ve used Thorne supplements for years because I trust their quality, and I really appreciate the ingredient profile in this protein powder. Nothing stands out as questionable or concerning. The sodium content is higher than some powders, but for active people who work out regularly, it’s not an issue. It’s certainly not a concern for me.... just something worth noting for others. The powder itself is light and fluffy and blends extremely well. It mixed easily with cold milk in the blender with no clumps after just a few pulses. There’s no grittiness, which makes this a genuinely enjoyable plant-based protein. My only real downside is the price. The container is smaller than expected (20 servings), and at around $50, the value feels fair but not excellent.

I got the vanilla flavored version and have been very happy with it. The taste is mild and natural, not overly sweet or artificial, which makes it easy to drink on its own or blend with fruit, oats, or nut butter. It mixes smoothly with water or milk and does not have a gritty texture that some plant powders tend to have. The Thorne, chocolate plant protein tastes delicious! As soon as I opened the canister, the yummy smell of cocoa was evident. If you follow the directions, you use two scoops for every serving. There are 20 servings in the canister. I think it’s slightly expensive for only 20 servings. I decided to try one scoop, and I put it in my shaker bottle with a cup and half of milk. I felt like I was drinking a dreamy dessert! It was a great pick me up in the middle of the afternoon. I really like that it’s a plant based protein powder. The ingredient list looks healthy. I feel assured since it’s coming from Thorne the ingredients are what they say they are. The protein powder is gluten-free as well.
