I've been playing saxophone more than 30 years and have a bunch of mouthpieces mostly 5 and 6 openings that I use with 2 1/2 to three reeds. I thought I would try this one out and I was totally surprised on how good this mouthpiece is for 100 bucks. I have had others listen to this against my other mouthpieces and this one was hands down the most mellow sounding and rounded. If you are playing just for yourself or in a small combo where you don't need projection and volume, this is perfect because it really sounds good, reminiscent of Paul Desmond. If you have a choice and need something for a student or beginner this would be a perfect mouthpiece, easy to play because it doesn't need much air volume so it is a light year better than the Yamahas or Selmers. Pair it with a 2 or 2 1/2 reed and enjoy.

Many people, including myself, upgrade from the stock or broken mouthpiece to the Yamaha 4C. This is recommended almost universally by middle school band directors, and works for a beginner's mouthpiece. Many advanced mouthpieces have a larger tip opening that can be difficult for small people to play. This one does not. Because it has the small opening and quality you expect from Theo Wanne, you can pivot to a mouthpiece that sounds unbelievably better and make your kid a pro. Of course, I expect the supplies as well to anyone desering a step up classical mouthpiece that has a very pure tone, understanding that the small tip opening will limit instrument maximum volume and projection.

I bought this mouthpiece because of what I read about the way it could be used for classical and jazz musicians alike .Also because it is made by Theo Wanne,the mouthpiece expert. As far as I am concerned, this is the finest mouthpiece that I have ever used, and that includes some pieces that I have paid over 300 dollars for. I love it's unique sound and balance ,and how it tones down the upper register of my alto.I wish he made one for tenor

This mouthpiece is great if rather small in overall size. It responds differently with different reeds. A jazz reed (Java) will make it play brighter while a classical type reed (Vandoren trad.) will play darker. However, it is not a serious classical mouthpiece like a Selmer Concept. Good for concert band, pit band, jazz band, etc. The cap provided is strange. I found a soprano sax cap I had that fit and is easier to use. I had no problems with the ligature as it worked well with cane and Legere reeds. I would recommend this mouthpiece for students in middle and high school as well as adult non-professional players.

This mouthpiece sounded slightly better than my old Yamaha 4C. The ligature it comes with doesn’t hold the reed too tightly. Adjusting the mouthpiece moves the reed which is frustrating. The mouthpiece I received was used: box was torn, drawstring bag knot was undone, and the mouthpiece had discoloration on the rails. I ended up returning it.
