I've been playing just about all my life and have a degree in music. I've been using a Meyer, medium chamber mouthpiece on my Selmer Mark VI. I was blown away when I first used the Otto Link Tone Edge. It has a large chamber and it really opened up my sound. I practiced with it for two days (using old brown box Rico reeds 2 1/2, Rico Royals 2 1/2 and Vandoren Blue Box 2 1/2) then used it on a big band gig Saturday night. The projection is great and it produces a big fat sound. I can still play soft enough to blend in with the sax section, can subtone low B flat and hit altissimo with no problem. That Sunday I went to a jam session and sat in for a few tunes, but it was the ballad that really set this mouthpiece apart from my other mouthpieces. This mouthpiece performs! I read where some people had issues with this mouthpiece but I don't. I do not use the ligature that came with it because I prefer a Bonade. I recommend this mouthpiece. The Tone Edge is a great mouthpiece for the price, with a somewhat dark tone but very responsive. The only weak spot is the ligature, which is a bit on the flimsy side but I am using a Rovner C2R Mark III Ligature to go with the Tone Edge and they complement each other extremely well, making the tone even warmer and darker. ... show more

I have tried multiple hard rubber mouthpieces. This Otto link gives me the flexibility that I am seeking . The low and high registers are equally warm. You don’t have to spend big bucks to get the sound that you are looking for . You need a mouthpiece that’s well built and you do the rest . I had read on a number of sites that the quality control of the manufacturer, Babbitt, is poor. Sure enough, the ToneEdge I received would not seal around the reed (failed the 'pop' test). I gently slid the table on #800 sandpaper on a plate glass. The resultant contrast highlighted a depression at the base of both rails, which prevented a proper seal. I gently sanded until the rails and table were flat. It now plays well with a #3 reed, with the dark and woody tone for which this design is known. It's deplorable that a company that owns classic american mouthpiece designs cares so little about quality. It's possible to put out a consistent high quality product - for example, Vandoren mouthpieces are widely praised for being consistently well made and finished, and reasonably priced. ... show more

Worked like a charm. Ligature is so-so. Used a Rovner instead. I was ready to give up on my tenor sax tone. This mouthpiece made me sound much better, immediately. Plenty bright, yet plenty warm. Used a Plasticover 2 1/2 reed. Free blowing, easy altissimo, can sub tone all the way down to lowest note. I’ve heard it is easy to fix a bad one. Well worth the money to try. ... show more
