  • Great mouthpiece, horrible branding on the beak if you care about patches
Size: 7* Color: METAL
I have one of these mouthpieces and, have to say, I really like it. I love the tone and many notes are easier to play with this mouthpiece than others. My biggest complaint about the mouthpiece is the design on the beak. The design is inset, not flush with the rest of the piece. What happens when I put a mouthpiece patch on it is that without 20-30 minutes of playing, saliva gets under the patch and it start moving around. I've tried 8 different patch brands (including one from Theo Wanne for this mouthpiece) and the same thing happens on them all. I contacted Theo Wanne support and they just told me I wasn't cleaning it properly but clean or no, it makes no difference. If I didn't love the piece so much, I would have returned it. My solution was to put hot-melt glue over the beak and use an iron (not a clothes iron but one meant for this sort of thing) to flatten as much as possible. Looks horrible, but now my patch stays in place perfectly and if I ever want to, I could remove the glue and be left with the protected mouthpiece. Terrible design choice by Theo Wanne. If they just did what every other mouthpiece I have ever seen does (leave the beak flat), I would be singing it praises. Seems terrible that I have to use hot melt glue on such an expensive mouthpiece to make it usable. If anyone else has found a better solution to this problem, I would love to hear it. ... show more
