This was a fun read! A love story, with a little mystery and magic thrown in! This is totally different than what I usually read but I loved it - so much fun to read! The Violin Maker’s Secret made my time at the gym pass quickly. I usually read the Author’s Acknowledgements, too and really appreciated how these were handled leaving the author free to give a sincere and interesting albeit brief “Thank You”. ... show more

Evie Woods, the Author of “The Violin Maker’s Secret” has written an evocative masterpiece. The genres for this inspirational and captivating novel are: Historical Fiction, Magical Realism, Fantasy,Music, Suspense and Mystery, with a dash of Romance. The author visually and vividly describes the scenery, and the dramatic, colorful, complex and complicated characters. Baggage Claim Agent Devlin finds an older violin in the lost and found section in Heathrow Airport. He purchases it for his girlfriend, thinking it is the perfect gift, but all the girlfriend expects is an engagement ring. Somehow, Devlin is drawn to this violin, and bring it to an old professor that inspired him, Walter, who is now retired and needs a sense or purpose, as soon as possible. Both of them bring the violin to an appraiser Gabrielle, who senses that there is something magical about this instrument and researches it. The unusual trio find themselves on an adventure in the search of the history and truth of the violin. The Violin Maker has exquisitely created this beautiful musical instrument that tell so much more. Ms. Woods has the gift to weave reality and history into enchanting tales which make sense to the end. Her characters meandering journeys are so relatable and speak to the heart. Evie Woods did it again, bringing magic to a story to captivate my heart. I got to say even when there moments to laugh at loud, I was mostly in tears as you realized that the words speak truth, and that sometimes the world we dream off as youngsters is not the happy one we thought. The past cannot be changed but you can move forward to something better. These characters were all keeping a pain inside, but together they found the truth they needed to see their lives in a different way. And the violin worked it's magic, and through her eyes we see how that magic worked in all those who had their hands on it. It is a great story, full of music history and even Agatha Christie made an appearance. So I loved it!!! ... show more

Loved this story and the musical themes. The characters were perfect; I totally fell for them. I could see this as a movie or a limited series! Evie’s stories always have a mystical element which keeps it very interesting and unexpected. Very enjoyable book!
