  • it’s good with a refreshing amount of humor
Format: Kindle
It is a great read. I would recommend this book. It’s a great story with an even better underlying message.

  • Easiest 5 stars (honestly, 10 if I could!) I’ve ever given a romance book.
Format: Kindle
This one had everything I love—lust, love, longing, and all the emotions in between. I caught myself clutching my chest in joy more than once… and yes, happy tears were definitely shed. Evie and Adam’s story starts off as enemies to lovers, and wow, was it mesmerizing. Watching them work through their personal struggles to find real purpose—not just in love, but in life—was beautiful. I was hooked. Plus, the little inspirational quotes sprinkled throughout? Loved them. This book had me wanting to ditch my routine and whisk my husband away on some wild romantic adventure, just to add another chapter to our own love story. If that’s not a sign of a good book, I don’t know what is. ... show more

  • Cute rom-com
Format: Kindle
Cute summer read! Vietnam sounds like a beautiful place! It was a little slow in the beginning. I found myself chuckling. This would make a cute limited series.

  • 4.5 stars really!
Format: Kindle
4.5 stars really. Once I was finally able to pick this up and start reading, I really did enjoy it, even with it being 3rd person instead of my preferred 1st person. Even in third person we had alternating chapters from both Evie and Adam’s viewpoints. That helped me too, as it was definitely told from their viewpoint even in the 3rd person. I honestly wish if this was a real thing it was something I could afford to do. Even if I didn’t plan to fall in love, just being able to go on a tour like this would be incredible. It reminds me of how perfect my Scotland/Outlander tour was, even as expensive as it was. Evie was a poet, kind of stuck in her writing. Her background was a father that had passed away, and her mother kind of stepped back from any challenges, or anything that was her husband’s culture. Fortunately for Evie, she still had her Auntie Hao, her father’s sister, to keep her in touch with not only that side of the family, but with putting her out there and trying to do the things she loved. But she had fallen into the easy side of life, especially once her aunt passed away. She had a boyfriend that was easy, no stress. At least until it turned out he was going to fire her because her unusual methods of teaching and lack of publications had made the school look elsewhere. Honestly I think her awesome creative ideas would be great for high school students. If only those teachers didn’t now almost have to completely follow scripted curriculum in so many places. Adam came from one of THOSE rich families. Where it all had to be proper, and things had to look good. Only when he’d been humiliated as he asked his girlfriend to marry him, he’d been the one blamed by his parents. So right away that made me dislike his parents. His sister was the golden child as far as he could tell. Their parents seemed to think she could do no wrong. She’d married the right person and kept with him. Even as we found out that maybe her life wasn’t as perfect as she let on with her parents. Adam went along on their inaugural first matchmaking tour. Mainly just to be the face of the company with his sister, but he ended up having someone there his sister had thought would be a perfect match for him. Instead, he and Evie had sparks between them, even as their meet-cute wasn’t necessarily the best. It was impossible not to adore Evie though. Even with her craziness. The way she was so sweet around the kids and so friendly, and just so willing to try all kinds of things. The banter between her and Adam was really good at times too. I got so frustrated with Adam though for how he went all hot and cold with her. Even as his misgivings with his family and what he was “expected” to do might have made sense for him, it was frustrating. Of course this is a romance, so even with the third act breakup, we know there will be a happy ending. This is another book for me where the third act breakup made sense. With the two of them being from different countries, it was really hard to see how in the world they could be together. I mean who was going to give up their life? So I loved the way things became possible for one of them to go to the other one and do what could help them to be together. I really enjoyed this, and I know my review is a bit after the pub date, but it was definitely worth fitting in! ... show more

  • SO MUCH YES
Format: Kindle
This was SO MUCH YES!! I adored it. I adored Adam and Evie. I adored each scenic vista described. I read this book with google open on my computer so I could look up every site they visited. Such a beautiful country!! It was so easy to get lost in this book - I found myself setting aside all my other books, I only wanted to read this one. I don't always love the grumpy/sunshine trope, but it's done very well here, and bonus is the "forced proximity" trope (always one of my favorites). The dialogue flows naturally, the characters are all great, and the descriptions of the scenery are phenomenal. I wish I could include quotes from the book here! (but since i had an ARC, I'm not supposed to). You'll just have to go read it for yourself. I don't know anything about matchmaking and I have no comment on that aspect of the story - I decided to just ignore that part LOL. A few points did bother me and are preventing me from giving this five stars. Every romance needs the "inevitable misunderstanding" part for the couples to work through and then get past; with Adam and Evie living on different continents, it was easy enough to put stress on the romance and give them something to work through. But ... **spoiler** When Evie just left, without saying good bye - that's a common trope in romance, meant to amp up the drama I guess, and I always hate it. And then when it turns out Ruby completely betrayed Adam by not only telling Evie to leave (which we already knew, but he didn't know) but also by not giving him the note Evie left for him. He's been depressed for months, missing Evie, and he just ... casually lets this huge betrayal slide with actual sympathy for Ruby because "we're family." What kind of doormat is he, he doesn't get angry when he finds out his months of misery were not necessary??! The endearments that Adam and Evie immediately started using felt like a bit "too much too soon" but maybe some people do immediately start calling each other "sweetheart" and "baby," etc, idk. Also, this story didn't need the additional subplot involving Evie & her mother reuniting. It felt shoehorned into chapter 30, out of the blue. The entire story would have been just the same if she and her mom had been tight from the start. ** end spoiler** I am grateful to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the e-book. I'd never heard of this author before and I only requested this book on a whim, because I loved the cover (I mean, honestly LOOK at that gorgeous cover!!!) I am so glad I did!! Nora Nguyen also writes as Thao Thai, which makes me much more eager to go pick up Banyan Moon (a book I've been eyeing and then backing away from since its publication - Nguyen promises it will have "less spice and more family secrets" than her romance novel). ... show more
