Description

Read by the author, this hilarious and heartfelt audiobook about how loves and lives are never truly lost, is perfect for fans of Rebecca Serle and Taylor Jenkins Reid. With a leading role on a hit TV show and a relationship with Hollywood’s latest heartthrob, Meg Bryan appears to have everything she ever wanted. But underneath, her happiness is as fake as her stage name, Lana Lord. Following a tiny nervous breakdown at her thirtieth birthday party, she books an impromptu trip to Ireland. Specifically, to the village where she and her best friend Aimee always dreamt of moving. When Meg arrives, the people in town don’t just recognize her, they seem to know her. She quickly—reluctantly—realizes she has somehow slipped into an alternate reality. One where she did move to Ireland as a teenager, one where she never got famous, and—most shocking of all—one where Aimee is alive and well. She just wants nothing to do with Meg.Despite her bewilderment, Meg is clear-eyed about one thing: this is a once-in-two-lifetimes chance to reconnect with her friend and repair what she broke . . . or else risk losing Aimee all over again.A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin’s Press. • 5 stars!
The Other Side of Now is about Meg’s two lives in different realities. I was engrossed pretty early and never got bored. When Meg is in her “other life” I didn’t know how everything would play out and really enjoyed reading it. The play with Meg and Aimee is really intense and sad but adds so much. Huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for The Other Side of Now. ... show more

  • If you need a laugh and a break from reality, then do I have the book for you!
Overwhelmed by her Hollywood life as a soap opera star – and suspicion that her live-in boyfriend is cheating on her – 30-year-old actress Meg Bryan (stage name Lana Lord) escapes to a remote Airbnb cottage in the tiny Irish village of Avalon, a place where, years ago, she, along with her best friend Aimee, almost went to college. But from the moment Meg arrives, things feel… off. Locals greet her by name. They speak to her as if she’s lived there for years. And somehow, impossibly, they believe she belongs. In this strange version of reality, Meg isn’t famous. She’s not followed by paparazzi or trapped in a showbiz scandal. Here, Aimee – who died eleven years ago – is miraculously still alive. Only they are no longer friends, but Meg has no idea why, or what happened. Meg has booked the cottage for one week. But as the days pass, and the lines between her real life and this alternate existence blur, she’s faced with impossible questions: What happens when the week is up? Will she be able to return to her old life? And if she can, will she want to? The Other Side of Now was pure escapism – light, witty, enchanting, uplifting, and endlessly fun – which was a welcome change of pace from the heavy, break-your-heart novels I’ve read recently, and exactly what I needed. But the plot wasn’t all light hearted, it also tackled serious topics like unresolved trauma, fight or flight, heartache, and resentment, especially the last half. They were also moments of striking insight. The audiobook read by the author, Paige Harbison, turned an already hilarious read into an all-out performance. The humour and emotions were spot on. The accents were flawless. It is rare to find an author that can write as well as act. Talk about talented! The characters were a riot – especially Kiera, Lisa Michelle, and Cillian’s mother, Marcia. Meg’s voice pulled me in from the first page – she was open-minded, warm, sentimental, and she loved dogs. What more could you ask for in a protagonist? Her love interest, Cillian was the ultimate dream guy, and who doesn’t swoon over an Irish accent! And, I wish I had a best friend like Kiera, she was so supportive, I adored her sarcasm, and her obsession with food. I could completely picture the quaint and idyllic Irish village of Avalon with its laid-back lifestyle, and quirky townsfolk. I really enjoyed all the pop culture TV and movie references and the delicious descriptions of food and snacks. A beautiful gem from start to finish. ... show more

  • 5 star red alert!
This book wrecked me. It was so beautiful and sweet and I loved every character. They all felt as real as people I have met. Paige Harbison just became an auto-buy author because this was brilliant.

  • For fans of time loops, multiverse, and self-discovery
Who among us hasn’t considered what our lives might have been like if we’d chosen a different path for ourselves? I love a good “what if” story, so when I heard the premise of The Other Side of Now by Paige Harbison, I knew I wanted to read it. This novel takes readers on a magical journey with Meg Bryan, an actress who uses the stage name Lana Lord because she’s heard the reference to the When Harry Met Sally actress a few too many times. Frustrated by the fake Hollywood life she’s been living, Meg reflects upon the past and decides on a whim to leave behind a houseful of party guests (nevermind that she’s the guest of honor!) and head to the airport to visit Ireland where she had once dreamed of attending college. Things go from strange to downright spooky when she arrives and no one recognizes her for the famous actress she is. Instead they call her by her given name and act like they’ve known her for years. Confusion leads to a lightbulb moment in which Meg recalls something she was told as a teenager when she and her best friend, Aimee, visited a fortune teller. In Meg’s “real life,” something happened and Aimee died, yet here in this tiny town of Avalon, Aimee is not only alive but no longer is talking to her high school best friend. Determined to make the most of this new life, Meg works to right the wrongs, appreciate the little things, and figure out what she really wants in life. The Other Side of Now had me laughing out loud at the loveable and quirky Kiera and Cillian as they tried to figure out what was going on with the Meg they remembered. Also, many sad moments had me on the verge of tears. While there is some romance, this novel is primarily a story of self-discovery and friendship. The Other Side of Now is for fans of Freaky Friday, Groundhog Day, and Marvel’s Multiverse who will appreciate this unique and touching story. It was particularly enjoyable to listen to the audiobook narration (as I did for half of it), performed by the author. If you’re looking to go on an adventure and you’re willing to suspend belief for this “time loop” tale, The Other Side of Now is a quick read that may provide just the escape you need. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the ARC. All opinions are my own. ... show more
