  • Has lasted 3 years, velcro tabs fraying
Color: Tnf Black/Tnf Black Size: Medium
I bought this jacket when I moved to Seattle, and I've worn it as a daily jacket for the rainy part of the year here (so basically 6 out of 12 months) for 3 years. Fit: 4/5 I'm 5'7 and the sleeves are just a tad long. Otherwise, it's a nice fit as I tend to wear a fleece under it during the winter months, which is a good combination, and keeps me warm walking around in temps in the 40s and short periods in the high 30s. It ends just a little bit past the opening of the pockets in my pants. On that note, It does tend to drain water onto my pants, and so now I avoid keeping my phone in my front pocket when it drains, since it ends up getting soaked if I'm not wearing rain pants. The hood has a small lip at the front, but I find that the hood doesn't cover forward enough, and I end up wearing a baseball cap to keep the rain out of my eyes. Otherwise, you really have to walk bent forward. It's a sort of a compromise, as a hood that goes too far forward ends up sticking to your forehead and draining rain down your face anyway. Comfort: 5/5 It is very breathable, and doesn't get stuffy or humid inside the jacket itself. It's light, but not plastic-bag thin like a lot of lighter raincoats, and I think it's just right. I've never felt sweaty or hot underneath it, in comparison to the generic lightweight rain jackets you can get at REI for a similar price. I have good range of motion with it, and can wear it with a backpack without noticing any change in freedom of movement. I don't really stuff my rain jacket into a backpack, so I can't really comment on portability, but it definitely isn't an ultra portable jacket that will fit in a pocket. Durability: 3.5/5 It's maintained good waterproofing for most of this time, although at 3 years I think I am about ready to waterproof it again with something like Nikwax. The sleeves are especially getting soaked through after walking 20 minutes in a light rain and I can feel dampness through the liner. The jacket has stood up to daily use in the city, and on backpacking and hiking trips. The two places that are having problems are the zipper at the bottom (which sometimes comes apart if I bend down and have bulky stuff in my fleece pockets underneath), and the velcro tabs along the front of the jacket. I noticed early on that the edges of those frayed and strands of the fabric would come off, and this has only gotten worse. The jacket still holds closed with the velcro, but I don't think this jacket will last another full year before I replace it. Value: 4.5/5 It's a pretty good jacket that's lasted me 3 years, it looks good, and it's adapted well to my other needs. It's a relatively good value for something I've worn daily for 3 years in an area with lots of rain. I wish it was just a little bit longer down, the hood covered forward just a little bit, and the velcro was a better material, but in retrospect I would have bought this exact same rain jacket again. ... show more

  • Great jacket..
Color: Tnf Black/Tnf Black Size: 2X
Great jacket.. This review will be honest and to the point. I purchased the venture 2 from North face and while it is a great coat it is for hikers looking to pack light and the differences are there in the proof. The resolve is also a great coat and I settled on this jacket for it's intended uses rain, wind our just out on the town. The mesh lining is what I wanted and a little more weight to if I want to layer. The resolve 2 is a great jacket if people have negative reviews they may have ordered this coat thru Amazon thru third party seller and sometimes we know how goes. This coat is 100% authentic and is great if you need a rain wind our just looking for q well made lighter coat for spring our fall get this jacket. If you are looking to hike the trails go for the venture 2 but just know they both great coats have there specific details built in. ... show more

  • They’re alright
The jacket is what you expect a jacket, but the collar on this one is a bit too big

  • Good construction and performance (I haven't yet tested in hard rain).
Good fit, as expected. Color is "Fiery Red" and it is a pretty vivid red, good for visibility in the dark, is true to that shown in the color options. Cuffs are decently elasticized to limit wind and water entry. Only two pockets, external and zippered, sufficiently sized. I wish there had been an internal pocket. Jacket features a main zipper all the way up to the full collar with four long, intermittent strips of hook and loop on the flap to limit water and wind reaching the zipper. The collar has a thin felt layer for comfort against the neck and chin. The non-removable hood is plenty deep, yet not overly so and does not obstruct level vision, and folds to store in the collar. The jacket has an interior mesh lining to assist ventilation. The hood and and waistline have drawstrings for sizing and limiting wind and rain entry. The North Face logo is of the same color as the jacket, so is not very noticeable. Some people might prefer it to be of a contrasting color, but that might require a different material that might create opportunities for water leakage. The seams are tape-sealed. Overall workmanship appears to be good. I had purchased two other name-brand rain jackets but returned them for issues like excessive hood depth, excessive cuff openings and "sticky" urethane feel. Although they had features that were attractive, overall they were not as satisfactory as this The North Face rain jacket. I've only tested this in light rain, so after a good, hard rain I'll hopefully enter a very positive rating on that final aspect. ... show more

  • Authentic North Face
There is a lot of North Face counterfeits sold on the internet. The jacket I received is genuine North Face.

  • Great budget rain jacket
While I normally like to spend some money on jackets (the whole you get what you pay for adage), the one exception is a rain jacket. I stopped spending good money on rain jackets when I realized their liners all inevitably start to delaminate and peel/disintegrate after 5+ years, so you should pretty much always ignore claims of "lifetime warranties" when it comes to rain jackets making it sound like they're going to last forever. This is a great budget rain jacket. It does its job. There's a felt-like material on the inner collar to give it an upgraded feel from a generic rain jacket. The hood can be slipped into the collar if you wish. It fits well. Zipper action is smooth. The hood is voluminous. I got the Flag Blue color, which is one of the colors where the "North Face" logo is extremely subtle and barely visible. Almost more an emboss than a different color. I don't begrudge companies for wanting to market themselves, and I like North Face, but I will always choose a logo that's subtle over contrasting/bold. Best of all, when the liner inevitably breaks down in 5-8 years, I won't cry over having to replace a $50 jacket. ... show more
