Description

An isolated compound. A so-called family. A collision course with unthinkable violence. When Winona rents a room at the eccentric Mirror House, she hopes to make new friends. What she gets instead is a “family” led by the charismatic psychologist Simon Spellmeyer. But if she wants to stay at Mirror House, Winona must join in following Simon’s strange protocols for self-improvement. Warning bells chime inside her, but the allure of transformation keeps her hooked. While his methods are disturbing, the results are undeniable. Soon, Simon’s vision for their future spirals in a darker direction. The group relocates, expands, and Winona’s once-close bond with her housemates grows fractured by mistrust until she’s trapped among people she hardly recognizes—including herself. Can Winona wake up to the true cost of Simon’s vision in time to get out alive? Or will the utopian dream descend into a tragic nightmare? Read more

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I loved this book! Good plot, good story, & it kept my interest from beginning to end. 🎧 I listened to this as a combination of audiobook/Kindle. “We’re not a cult.” Oh Winona, but you are! I love a good cult based novel. Cults fascinate me & I never pass up the opportunity to read a fiction book surround them. Right from the very start, Simon had red flag after red flag after red flag. Winona was so blind to it all that she really started to aggravate me. But isn’t that what usually happens in a cult? The members are SO brainwashed & gullible that they can’t see what’s really happening. The psychology behind it really fascinates me. This book did not disappoint! I loved the past/present POVs, always one of my favorite writing styles. The ending absolutely threw me! I did not see it coming AT ALL. That doesn’t happen often for me. I was actually really satisfied with the ending of the story. Overall, this was a well-rounded psychological thriller. The author did a fantastic job! I’ll have to keep an eye out for more work by Faith Gardner. ... show more

  • Haunting and Thrilling!
One of the best thriller books I’ve read this year! Literally could not put it down. I got so immersed with the plot and could not believe what the characters had gotten themselves into. If you love movies/shows about cults, this one is for you!

  • No “big twist” but overall a good read
I bought this book because everyone on TikTok said it was a thriller and a must read. It was very predictable. There was no twist and was more of a book about a cult. It was a good read but in no way does it have some big twist! I was very disappointed after seeing so many people say it did.

  • Try to look away, and the story will pull you right back in.
Peer into the sinister depths of The Mirror House Girls by Faith Gardner, a story that begins with fragile dreams of healing and belonging but spirals into an absorbing nightmare. This gripping psychological drama doesn’t just tell a story; it lays bare the human need for connection and the darkness that preys upon it. When Winona, grieving and unmoored, steps into the alluring world of the Mirror House, she’s searching for solace. Instead, she finds Simon Spellmeyer, a man whose guidance seduces her into surrendering piece by fragile piece of herself. Wrapped in the seemingly warm arms of this “family,” Winona discovers too late how devotion can blur into control and love into fear. Faith Gardner captures the aching vulnerability that drives these characters so vividly that it feels personal. You’re in that house with Winona, seeing the glimmers of hope that turn into shadows etched in mirrors. Each character—from the enigmatic Simon to the conflicted Scarlett—is heartbreakingly human, navigating their desperation, trust, and ultimate betrayal. The tension is masterfully suffocating, pulling readers deeper with subtle yet unrelenting dread. Through small acts of obedience and shared rituals, the house’s charm turns chillingly claustrophobic. Gardner doesn’t rely on shocking turns; instead, she weaves unease into every word, making every glimpse into the lives of the Mirror House girls feel both tender and terrifying. For anyone who’s drawn to the delicate unspooling of psychological intrigue, The Mirror House Girls is an unflinching exploration of the cost of belonging. It will consume you, stay with you, and make you question the faith we place in others. This is a novel for those unafraid to dip their fingers into the dark pools of human vulnerability. ... show more

  • Maybe shouldn't have read the reviews
Love these characters and the story feels like a genuine fall into crazy but it was just a really good book. Not life-changing in any way.

  • Excellent
So well written that I felt like I was watching a movie. The characters were perfectly flawed and the plot did not disappoint.
