  • a must read series
As an avid reader, my mother bought me the 4 separate books from the Circle Series off eBay for my birthday. While in the middle of Red, I discovered that Green had an alternate ending. Having fallen in love with the series, I placed an order on Amazon for this 4-in-1 volume just so I could have that alternate ending. The Circle Series by Ted Dekker tells the tale of Thomas Hunter, a 25-year old living in Denver, Colorado. While coming home from work one night, he is struck in the head by a bullet by someone who was chasing him. Blackness engulfed him, and Thomas dreamed and his world would never be the same. He learns in his dreams/alternate reality that a virus dubbed the Raison Strain is about to be unleashed upon the world. In the other world, a crisis has occurred as well that threatens the stability of that world. And throughout the series, Thomas' realization that both realities are connected begins to grow as he sees that one reality influences the other. And his survival in one depends on his survival in the other. This series is one that I would consider groundbreaking. I was never a fantasy fan, but went into the series, not expecting it to be one about the fall and redemption of mankind. I loved how this series told the story of our own biblical history through the use of an alternative reality. Black tells a story similar to that of the Garden of Eden and the fall of mankind. Red tells the tale of how life was under Jewish law. White describes how life is for people who accept God's gift of grace and how it is for those who reject it. And finally Green, which seemed to depict the time of the Tribulation and the end times. Among these books, mix in a story about a virus that will infect the entire planet, and the one man who can stop it, and you have one thrilling series. The series does have its minor problems as well. I rather not discuss them since I would spoiler parts of the series for those who haven't read it. However, I'm glad Green is placed at the end of this 4-in-1 volume and with an alternate ending. The alternate ending, which I preferred gave closure to the series, whereas the original ending made the series circular and never-ending. In my opinion, Green really should be read last since it takes place 10 years after White, thus containing spoilers from the other books. I know Dekker had originally intended for it to serve as both a prequel and sequel (with the original ending), but I think it's best read as a sequel. And for being Thomas Hunter's story, Green seemed to have so little of him, preferring to highlight secondary and new characters instead. The new interview at the end was interesting to read though, as it provided insight into the series and its creation. All in all, this is one series that has now become one of my favorites. Do yourself a big favor and read The Circle Series. You'll be glad that you did. :) ... show more

  • Great Story
I would have preferred the story to end before Green. Green was too long of an appendix. The story didn't really need a tight closure. I believe in leaving some telling by the reader, especially when the story is as involved and spiritual as this.

  • Just... WOW.
I have resisted reading Dekker books because I thought they would be too dark. A friend gave me Blessed Child, told me it was different than his other books, so I read it, and I wept as I read it. His storytelling was amazing, so I decided to read another of his books. I came across this set sold as one and I was enraptured at the vision of Elyon’s world and physical goodness displayed clearly. Mind bending at times and pure genius at others! I think I could read it over and over and catch more and more of the allegorical elements I am sure I missed along the way. To me, this was a more relatable allegorical story than the Lord of the Rings or even the Narnia books. Definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Inventive and interesting
I read all four in the series, in order. Evidently Black came first, originally, and then goes back to white, but for the series it is the last. And yet, it was Black that was hardest for me to enjoy - perhaps I was tiring of it by then? Anyway, overall I enjoyed this quite a lot. A few times it felt like storylines or characters were started that didn't get tied up or completed as well as I would have liked. Or perhaps they didn't quite fit where he wanted to go with the story, so they were discarded. So it seemed. Regardless, it's an enjoyable read. Go for it. ... show more

  • Not very interesting in my opinion
Not one of my favorite set or series of books to me it got confusing I had a hard time following the characters I got lost several times trying to keep up with who was who but for some people that like mysteries and thrillers like this it's probably not hard for you to keep up with but to me it was just too many characters and too many twists and turns for me to keep up with but still he is a great author not like more of his books than I don't like ... show more

  • What a Series!!
When I first started reading the Circle Series (I started with Black), I wasn’t sure what to expect. What was Thomas Hunter’s deal? Which reality was real? It didn’t take long to figure out, he was in a race to save the world. Or was he? So many questions, so little answers. One page led to more questions, and the pages couldn’t turn fast enough for me. Clearly, the good versus evil undertones, and even the spiritual aspects were what drove me to keep going. Regardless of what your spiritual beliefs are, this series is definitely worth the adventure. Ted Dekker is a master at storytelling and I absolutely love his imagination! ... show more

  • Dive Deep!
This is by far one of the most brilliant allegories of God's Great Romance with His beloveds that has ever been penned! Each time I read it joy like a heartbeat beats reverberates in my soul! Oh, how I long to dive deep into my Lord's being and allow His presence and to envelope my whole being! Thank you Ted Dekker for allowing me to dive deep into Eloyn's lake with you! ... show more

When I first started reading the books, I thought it would make a fantastic movie. But then the further into it I got, I thought it would definitely be too scary for me. The evil is a bit too much. Even reading it was difficult but I still loved the contrast of good and evil and it just gave me even more of a distain for evil. I feel like my worship experience was enhanced the last couple weeks at church after having read this series. I thought Dekker did a great job of making Thomas feel like a real person of today and so I kept relating it as real even when he was in the other reality, despite how strange some of that was. I just keep thinking about sin as being a physical disease like the Horde and what a blessing it is to believe in and accept the sacrifice Christ made for each of us! ... show more
