Andrew Gross was an author who never missed. Each book he wrote kept his readers enthralled. This was the only book I hadn’t read, and I downloaded it several days ago. Who can you trust - your family, friends, the law enforcement people? You can never know according to the plot reverses and misleads in this book. If you, or a member of your family has a need to be included in the Federal Witness Protection Program, your life and that of your family and community will change startlingly. It is assumed that this inclusion is for a very good reason. Your name will change. Your address (both location and e-mail) will change. The life that you are pursuing will change. If you have a pending award for some achievement in sports, scholastic, professional or activity, you can forget about that. You cannot call your friends, or e-mail them. In short, you are no longer you. That is also true for all of the members of your family. That happens to the family in this book because one member chose (or was strenuously convinced) to testify in court against some very bad people. With those comments, I will go no further in describing the plot. This is a real page-turner (no, that is not an original phrase of mine, but thanks for asking) which I would recommend that you refrain from starting prior to bedtime. It would work out nicely on a long airplane trip. ... show more

I recently found this author and absolutely loved his style. I'm reading all his books starting with the most recent and working backwards. The Blue Zone is 4 or 5 years old (and a great value on Kindle). Found this book to be exciting, fast paced, hard to put down and easy to read. There are more twists and turns to this story than Lombard Street. I am retired and find myself reading 2 sometimes 3 books a week and find myself not reviewing many books. Had to make an exception with this book. Absolutely a "don't miss" thriller with a unexpected ending. ... show more

    • Hmm...Two or Three stars?
Format: Kindle
Another reviewer wrote "...The characters, however, are rather hard to get attached to." That's quite an understatement. The main character, in whose head we spend an awful amount of time, is a self-centered ninny. Her behavior would be consistant with a not-very-bright pre-teen, not a post-grad future doctoral candidate. Her actions are driven solely by her own selfish needs with only token heed for the rest of her family nor for her "sig. other". On top of that, she appears to be oblivious to what we all probably have learned from T.V.: how to behave if you are under threat. Then there is the other main character, "Daddy", who could have been developed as very complex and tortured being but, instead, is presented as a sort of Jekyll/Hyde whose transmogrification is signaled by 'that certain look in his eyes'. I wanted to grab the former and put her over my knee for a spanking then send her to bed without dinner hoping she'd wake up with a better mindset; then simply send "Daddy" to a good therapist. Then to make sure we are aware that we must serously suspend disbelief, not one, not two, but five highly trained federal agents are caught unprepared, with terminal consequences. I did finally give it three stars because I kept reading to the end...like our main character, I did want to know "the truth". I just coped by regularly yelling at our ersatz heroine: ”That is soooo dumb!!!" ... show more

    • REALLY GOOD STORY OF BETRAYAL AND REVENGE
Format: Kindle
I read this book in one day, it's just that good. The author knows how to draw you in and keep you guessing. Fast paced, tense with a lot of secrets that keep unfolding. Made you want to question who to believe and who to trust. Well written and really interesting.

    • The real deal
I came across Andrew Gross by chance - as I do not rate James Patterson - and I am so glad I did - he has his own definitive style which he has stuck to and refined - he is plausible and effective - thoroughly enjoyed this read [and his others] - this is a clever writer.

    • Recommending This to My Wife and Father

I'm not sure what possessed me to buy this book, but I am glad that I did. This doesn't fit into most of my usual genre's of books, but I really enjoyed it. I am actually going to recommend this to my father (an avid reader) and my fiance. This story had a great lead female role who was believable in every way. I even found myself laughing out loud at some of the things she said because they were so true, and in other cases I kept nudging my fiance and saying "Look he's writing about you!" An incredibly gripping story! I recommend it ... show more

I found and read this book when it first came out and I loved it. The story was fascinating to me and there were twists that I never saw coming. I really liked learning about the blue zone as I had never heard that term before. I just reread this book a few days ago. Even though I knew the twists this time around I still really enjoyed this book. I've since read a few of Andrew Gross' other books and, while good, none of them are as good as this one is. I definitely recommend this book. ... show more
