  • Been Searching for a Book Like This
Let's get real, my dogs are smarter than I am. When I figure out in small steps how to communicate with them, I over the moon! And they look at my with a "duh, how did it take you so long" look on their face. We do go to a trainer, and he is great! But he gives me way too much information each lesson and ultimately winds up confusing me. I think he is better if the dogs are left with him, but I'm just not willing to do that. Anyway, The Big Book of Tricks for the Best Dog Ever is exactly what I've been looking for. There are plenty of tricks and ways of communication to stretch these pups' brains, and each trick is broken down into small, easy to achieve steps that are then chained together. I have tried numerous other training books, and they'll say things akin to "have your dog sit" but they don't tell you how to make the sit happen to begin. In this book they tell you exactly how to accomplish the sit, THEN you move on to the step that says "have your dog sit". They also teach non adverse training, so there is no use of pinch, choke, etc. From beginner to advanced, this book is great! We are slowly working our way through it. My puppies are having a great time with it and so am I! ... show more

  • Awesome book! Clearly written instructions that actually work on my dog
I just adopted a 7 yo pitbull mix that has already gone through training and I want to continue her training with some fun tricks. She loves our time together and I know that training with your dog strengthens your bond with your dog so when I saw this book I was very intrigued. I downloaded the Kindle version so that I would have it with me anywhere I went and started training that same day. Lexi had someone early in her life who mistreated her. She is a loving, affectionate pup but she has trust issues. So training her to do "Peekaboo" but a challenge, but we prevailed. I was patient and gentle and eventually, she trusted me enough to walk under my legs. I was SO proud of my baby girl!! Today we are going to work on the series that build-up to "Playing Dead". I've always wanted a dog that played dead, lol. If you are serious about training your dog, then you need this book. It gives clear instructions on how to perform the "trick" as well as pointers if your dog presents challenges. They also give you alternate ways to perform the trick, if available. It has SO much information and SO many tricks. I honestly can't believe the book was so inexpensive. I do recommend getting the Kindle version of the book so you can carry it with you everywhere you go. While it is nice to set aside some time for dog training in your day, they get the most out of it when you incorporate it into normal day-to-day stuff like going outside to go potty. I let Lexi do her thing then we briefly review a trick or two and she loves it. It keeps her engaged and burns some of her energy. Pitbulls tend to have a lot of energy to exert so the more you use their brain the better (and the less trouble they get into). • Great book
Love this book and I've already taught my Chihuahua X a few of these tricks. However, I don't think every trick can be taught to every breed because a tiny little Chihuahua isn't going to be able to do some of the tricks that bigger dogs can do. Overall though, it's a great book and it's fun to teach your dog new tricks. My dog is 4 years old but still a quick learner. ... show more

  • Great step-by-step guide
We love this training book. It’s broken into sections, beginner, intermediate, etc. Trick instruction is easy to understand with simple steps building up to final trick. And, many tricks build upon previously learned tricks. Great for dogs at all stages of learning. This will be a book we use for a long time! ... show more

  • Best Book I've Found for Teaching Tricks
This is not only For the Best Dog Ever, it is truly the Best Trick Book Ever. It is fully illustrated with many pictures on each page showing the steps of each trick. The part that I liked the most was that they have the requirements of each AKC trick dog title and give the instructions on how to teach each trick. The only criticism I have is that they used medium to large dogs. I have Corgis, a medium dog with short legs who cannot physically do some of the tricks. I wish a book of tricks would come out with the smaller dog in mind. That said, there is still loads of information useful with any dog. It also has sound training information. A must have for your canine library. ... show more

  • A lot of tricks, not all of them are useful
The book has a lot of pictures which is nice. It shows how the tricks are performed and how to teach them to your dog step by step. However, I dislike the way the package was handled and packaged. It was bended when I received it. I still haven't been able to "recover" the normal shape of the book.
