This is the best possible emergency shelter. I actually have 2 of the 2 person ones and a 4 person. I'm not sure why the are not more popular in the US. They seem to be more well known in Europe. It is quick and easy to deploy and painless to stuff back into the bag. I would recommend for any day hikers to keep from the worry of hiking on days when pop up storms are a possibility. It does get warm inside quickly but is vented to help with that. It would be nice a cozy in the winter because it retains your body heat very well. ... show more

    • Great safety value
As a Master Maine Guide I want quick warming shelter for emergency situations such as hypothermia summer and all year, injuries, inclement weather, and a small package to carry. Great item for this. The ultralight is smaller but I couldn't justify the price difference for what I do.

These aren't too popular in the United States, but combined with a lightweight bivy sack (emergency or regular) you can really create a survivable environment in horrible conditions. In less dire situations, these are nice to have for getting out of the weather while taking a break, changing out of wet layers, changing socks, attending to a medical issue (dressing change, blister care), determining navigation in bad weather, sitting out a storm, eating lunch out of the elements I've mostly used mine to get out of the elements in the above situations and it's held up well. These aren't intended for regular/hard use but occasional or emergency use. For the price, weight and space, this is much more useful than a mylar space blanket. ... show more
