  • Does the trick and was easy to set up.
Model: TEG1005D
The media could not be loaded. Got this to add to my Eero mesh network and still work for my other things. It is tiny and works great. All the other devices work fine and the lights are bright and work. Power was easy to set up, it’s not getting hot and blends in to the area. Easily recommended.

  • Better than expected.
Model: TEG1005D
Got this simply due to price and reviews and glad I made the decision. Runs 600 mb down and 600 up on my fiber connection. The cat 6 cables plug in with the same quality as the TP Link. I got if for a home office but the way it mounts to the wall made me switch it to my audio system and put my TP Link on the computers. I am a TP fan boy but this is a well made unit at a great price. ... show more

  • As long as you don't need more than 100 VLANs it's a fine gigabit switch.
Model: TEG3328F
The good: I got this on sale for $90 and it has 24 gigabit ports (+4 SFP). It's hard to imagine finding more managed gigabit ports for less than that. If all you need is some gigabit port density with the ability to segment with VLANs (as long as you have 100 or fewer VLANs, I'll get to that), then this switch seems to be great value for the money. I think what I just mentioned is all that will be relevant to almost everyone that is considering this switch, but for what it is worth it also has other services and features, including but not limited to: LACP, port mirroring, rate limiting, DHCP snooping, Spanning tree (STP, RSTP, MSTP), LLDP, IGMP Snooping, QoS (DSCP, strict or weighted), ACLs (MAC and IP) MAC filtering, and 802.1X. I have not tested all these and I suspect that many of them will have peculiarities based on this being a cheap brand. I will update if I ever get around to testing them for fun, but most of that I don't care about given the reason I bought it. The bad: If you try to tag more than 100 vlans on a single switchport it will tell you that you cannot assign more than 100 VLANs. I don't know why it has this limitation. You also cannot assign vlans to an interface if you have not already created them. This sort of makes sense, but if you come from the professional world where you can just assign, for example, VLANs 100-500 to an interface regardless of whether or not they exist on the switch yet, then you will be disappointed. You can't just assign a range and then have them become active on the port as you create the VLANs--you have to create the VLAN, then add it to your access/trunk ports, so management is a bit more cumbersome. That said, for home use, all of this probably does not matter--I have a fairly advanced and segmented home network and even I am not using near 100 VLANs. The other annoying thing is that the management IP for the switch is on VLAN 1 and cannot be changed, and I don't believe it can be accessed via tagged traffic either. To manage this switch I had to create a network on my PFSense firewall base trunk interface and put the switch on that network. Then I tagged all my vlans on that trunk port and left VLAN 1 as untagged on that port. This is annoying because I have a management VLAN on my network so obviously I'd have preferred to just assign that VLAN as management and put the switch IP on that network, but it does not let you change that. The ugly: This probably should just be under "The bad" but I felt I needed this section. Anyway, you can't connect to this switch with HTTPS or SSH. HTTP and telnet only. So, pretty lame, but again, if you just need port density in your home, you're probably not too worried about that. Conclusion: If you only have a handful of VLANs, don't need more than 1gig ports, and don't need POE (or already have, for example, a small POE switch for your cameras/APs,/etc) and all you need are cheap gigabit ports, this switch is probably the best bang for your buck when it is on sale. ... show more
