Fantastic spinning reel with features not commonly found at this price point. The first thing I will address is there are a couple different listings for the Tempo Apex spinning reel sold by Valcont on Amazon. For some reason, the listing this review will be attached to has only 2or 3 ratings and is only for a 4000 series size. Mine is a 3000 series and they are available in 1000-4000 sizes. Search "Tempo Apex" in Amazon and go to the listing with 200+ ratings for a proper choice of sizes and pricing. ...on to my review. I've include 6 pictures to highlight the amazing features and quality of this Tempo Apex Spinning Reel and they are numbered 1-6. #1- The spool has a unique silicone band and is braid ready. I always use a mono backing anyway as it is more cost effective, but the silicone makes for easier spooling start of mono as well. #2- The drag is sealed and protected by a large silicone seal on the back of the spool cover/drag adjusting cap. #3 - Line keeper on the spool is spring loaded metal instead of the typical plastic cap that snaps off from being brittle after a couple years. The back side and spring/keeper pin can be seen in picture 5. #4 - Spool is supported by its own sealed bearing! There is no wobbling of the spool on the shaft! Directly below the spool bearing, you can see another unique feature. Instead of a thin stamped gear for the spool clicker, The Apex has a thick metal cage that the beefy click pawl rides against. Heavy duty! #5- The machining of the spool is amazing! Heavy duty click pawl. Machined cup that the spool bearing rides in, spring loaded line keeper. This thing is built like a tank but is extremely light weight. #6- The crank handle is independent from the cap on the opposite side and the cap itself is machined metal and has a robust silicone seal. The typical reel has threads down the center of the shaft and the plastic cap has a corresponding "bolt" that threads into the crank handle. Because of the the plastic cap, which is prone to breakage, it is difficult to tighten the crank handle securely enough that it doesn't loosen up. Ever cracked your knuckles on your reel cuz the handle came loose and you didn't notice? I've only become aware of the Tempo brand recently but I now have 2 of their rods and this reel. They are all excellent. I have this Tempo Apex 3000 series mounted on a 6'6" Medium Light/Moderate Fast action Temp Sphera rod spooled with 10# braid/8# fluoro leader and it is superb for drop-shot, neko, and lighter jigs/swim baits but the reel could definitely handle tougher duty. 39# drag? I haven't tested but I believe it. The reel came well lubricated and everything functions perfectly. It actually felt "tight" to begin with but has loosened up with use. I could not be more pleased with the Tempo Apex spinning reel and the 2 Tempo Sphera rods I have now!
