I purchased three of these reels almost exactly a year ago - best reels I have ever used ! I'm a serious salt and freshwater fisherman and make investments in gear I can trust. This is a must-have whether you are lake trolling or saltwater fishing. The line counter has NEVER failed and the drag is second to none.     • Sturdy dependable reel for trolling
I've been using several of these Shimano Tekota line counter reels while trolling on Lake Erie. Dependable and sturdy reel. The only variable is the line counter which occasionally is a bit temperamental.

    • Best reels I've owned in a while
Had them for about 3 weeks now - I'm a salmon fishing guide so I have 5 of them . 4 are spooled with 50# Power Pro slick 8 coated braid. 1 is spooled with 25# Berkeley mono. The drags on these are smooth and they hold well. I've had one line counter stick a little bit, but that's to be expected with almost all line counters, not sure why. The reels have held salmon well so far, and I see many more in their future. I could not be more impressed with the stability and reliability of these reels compared to the Okuma ColdWaters that they replaced. ... show more

    • The break on these and reeling suck
The first year these reels worked awesome. I took them out for the first time this year ( I take care of my gear) and these are failing just like everyone talks about. I think shimano is starting to take a crap!

    • Broke twice
Had to send in for the line counter to be fixed after it started to fail, btw Amazon makes you go through shimano , now it's malfunctioning and letting drag it pull without clicking click or anything, means it's busted. Caught lots of nice fish with it and all but all my other tackle has outlasted it ... show more
