Description

The selector switch on the KBGV Select allows you to choose between brewing a half or full carafe. The brewing speed and hotplate temperature adjust according to your choice, brewing either amount to the golden cup standard. The brew basket automatically stops the flow of coffee when removing the carafe. All glass carafe brewers feature a hotplate with an independent heating element that holds your coffee at the perfect temperature.

    • Not your standard coffee maker

My Bonavita coffee maker I'd had for around a decade just died halfway through making a pot of coffee, so I was in need of a new machine, but I refuse to use a pod machine and I wanted something a bit nicer and more interesting than a standard Mr Coffee. I remembered coming across this brand when I was researching my previous pot and was happy to see that they were still around - and that the price hadn't changed much. First off - it's a bit large and looks like you're preparing a science experiment on your counter (which I think is a good thing). It definitely feels solid and well made. Second - the instructions call for wetting the filter in the basket before you put in the coffee. I don't know if this does anything for the taste, but it does cause the filter to stick to the basket well and prevent it from collapsing and creating a mess. Third - I used the scoop they provided (almost the same size as the one I'd had for forever) and the amount of coffee they recommended, and it was...a lot. The coffee came out quite tasty, but I'd be going through a bag of coffee in a couple of weeks using their measurements, so I decided to drop back to the amount I usually used and it comes out fine. The big question was - at three times the cost of a cheap coffee maker, does this machine make a cup that's three times better? Not really. I do believe that there is something to the design that allows it to bring out the better flavors when the extra measures of grounds are added, but with the standard measurement I still wind up with a standard - but good - cup. That said, I'm quite happy with my purchase. It's well built, it makes a good cup, and it looks good doing it. And I know that if I decide to ramp it up a bit with more grounds, I can get a cup that's even better! ... show more

After using the Moccamaster KBGV for over a week now I would say it makes excellent drip coffee - rich, flavorful and smooth. It took a few days of experimenting to get the grind just right for making a half-pot to my taste so it's clear to me that the grind really is critical. The machine is very easy to set up and use and I think what might be most impressive is how quickly it heats the water and brews the coffee. My half-pot takes just 3 minutes - that is 3-4x faster than heating the water on my stove and either making a pour over (which is always hit and miss) or using a French press. The only question is how well it will perform and hold up over time...given the long warranty, I feel pretty confident it will pass that test too... ... show more

Ok, This coffee pot is expensive, but I have to let you know it's worth every penny. Cleaning is so easy. No leaks and no noise. I am a serious coffee person that keeps buying cheap coffee posts that continue to fall apart after a year. I love the look and quality.
