  • EXPOSED DOHC V8 ARCHITECTURE: This model presents a V8 layout with two angled cylinder banks, four exposed overhead camshafts, dual timing-chain drives, a central intake section, and outward-facing exhaust headers. The open arrangement makes the major mechanical structures easy to identify before and during operation.
  • PRECISION METAL CONSTRUCTION: Built from precision-cast and machined components in anodized aluminum and stainless steel. Defined surfaces, exposed fasteners, timing assemblies, and front pulleys reflect key structures found in modern V8 engine architecture while giving the completed model a detailed industrial finish.
  • 500+ COMPONENT ASSEMBLY: Build the model from more than 500 labeled components, including precision metal parts, screws, and assembly hardware. Custom foam trays help organize and protect the parts, while the included tool set and full-color manual guide the approximately five-hour assembly process.
  • MOTORIZED FOUR-STROKE MOTION: An electric motor concealed inside the starter housing drives the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, and valvetrain through a four-stroke mechanical sequence. Viewing openings reveal the internal movement, while the exposed camshafts, timing chains, and belt-driven pulleys show how motion is transferred across the assembled engine.
  • MECHANICAL DISPLAY FOR HOME OR OFFICE: Measuring approximately 7.80 6.69 7.09 inches when assembled, the DM118 combines visible mechanical motion with detailed metal construction. Intended for ages 14 and above, it is suited to model builders, automotive enthusiasts, engineering fans, and hobbyists for display in a home, office, study, studio, or workshop. A metal gift box is included.

Description

TECHING transforms real-world engineering into collectible mechanical art. Inspired by authentic aircraft and engine prototypes, our precision metal model kits reveal the true structure and working principles of machinery. Designed by an experienced engineering team, each model blends education, craftsmanship, and industrial aesthetics—empowering hands-on learning while celebrating the beauty of mechanical innovation. Founded in 2014, TECHING started with a passion for real engineering. Backed by an experienced R&D team with industrial mold design expertise, we set out to transform authentic engine structures into precision metal assembly models. We restore real aircraft and engine prototypes with accurate mechanical structure, revealing true working principles in collectible metal form. Yes. Made from premium metal and strictly tested, each model reflects engineering precision, durability, and refined craftsmanship. TECHING creates metal mechanical models that do more than reproduce an engine’s form. They reveal its structure, motion, and mechanical character—turning complex engineering into something you can build, observe, understand, and display. Electric drive brings the V8 architecture to life, revealing how multiple mechanisms transfer motion as one coordinated system. The electric motor powers the completed model for repeatable mechanical demonstration. Rotary motion is converted into the reciprocating movement of eight pistons. The timing chains transfer and synchronize motion between the crankshaft and camshafts. Four visible camshafts demonstrate coordinated valve-train movement across both cylinder banks. The front belt and pulleys add another visible layer of synchronized mechanical motion. Cast and machined aluminum-alloy and stainless-steel parts deliver weight, texture, and detail. Numbered parts, sorted trays and diagrams guide an advanced 5-8-hour build based on skill and pace. At 6.7 × 7.8 × 7.1 in and 6.2 lb, it has a compact footprint with substantial presence. Does the completed model actually run? Yes. An electric motor drives the completed model, producing coordinated movement through the crankshaft, pistons, timing chains, camshafts, pulleys, and accessory system. It is a mechanical demonstration model and does not use fuel or combustion. Is the model supplied preassembled? No. It is supplied as an advanced 500+ piece assembly kit. Building the mechanism piece by piece is a central part of the experience. How difficult is the build, and how long does it take? The model is designed for advanced hobbyists and builders aged 14+. Most builders complete it in approximately 5–8 hours, depending on experience and pace. Careful reading and patience are more important than previous model-building experience. Are assembly tools included? Basic assembly tools are included. A mini electric screwdriver may be used as an optional convenience, but it is not essential to understanding or completing the build. What if a component is missing or damaged? Replacement support is available for supported components. Keep the corresponding part number from the manual so the required piece can be identified accurately.

  • Extremely high quality V8 engine kit
A very high quality all metal V8 engine kit. Extremely detailed with all parts fitting perfectly with no modifications needed. Completed over a couple of weekends with a few hours at each session. High cost but worth it if you enjoy engine model kits, the best one I’ve seen. Instructions were reasonably detailed but I found many tutorials online that were even more helpful. I recommend using a mini electric screwdriver. Really enjoyable and would recommend to enthusiasts ... show more

  • A heavy all-metal V8 engine with gorgeous realism
This kit is an elaborate scale model of a V8 Internal Combustion Engine with 32 valves, chain-driven overhead camshafts, and surprising mechanical fidelity. It will make any pistonhead or engineer salivate like my dog at dinner time. Once assembled, the engine is roughly the size of a large grapefruit and weighs a whopping 3 kg (7.5 pounds). This is not a Lego-style kit with minecraft-level pixelation. Instead, this looks and turns like a real ICE engine. Build Quality and Materials Everything is metal. Not “plastic painted to look like metal,” but actual anodized aluminum in multiple colors, with clean castings, no burrs, and no toy-like shortcuts anywhere. Real engines use plastic parts these days, but this display model doesn't. It’s metal all the way down. The ~50 major parts go together with hundreds of tiny screws. The screws come in more sizes than is reasonable, and they’re not always labeled clearly, but at least the kit includes plenty of extras. My box had no missing pieces. I ended up with a whole pile of leftover screws, presumably in case someone sneezes mid-assembly. Mechanical Accuracy This is where the kit earns its hefty price tag. It looks and behaves like the original. The eight pistons move realistically, the four camshafts operate the valves with proper springs and adjustable caps, and the chain-drive is not just decorative. Even components you can’t see once the block is closed are built with real mechanical function. The water pump even has a tiny internal turbine, which is a ridiculous amount of effort for a part no one will ever notice. I appreciated that. There are a few omissions: there is no carburetor or fuel injectors, no wiring harness, and no coolant circuit beyond that decorative pump. For a display model, the amount of working mechanism and realism is still impressive. Operation Once assembled, the engine runs via a small battery-powered electric motor from a small rechargeable battery. The movement is smooth, the pistons and valves dance properly, and watching the whole mechanism cycle is deeply satisfying. Sadly, the little electric motor itself is loud and has an unpleasant sound. I wish it was possible to turn the crankshaft by hand. Building Experience Expect 4 hours of assembly if you have some Modeling or engineering background. For novices this would be quite difficult to build successfully. The manual contains only terse sentences and drawings. You’ll spend a decent chunk of time puzzling over and deciphering which screws go where. The parts fit together beautifully, almost perfectly. I hit only one genuine design flaw: the overhead camshafts wouldn’t rotate freely because the travel of certain valves interfered with the motion. After disassembling the top end a few times, I eventually spotted the bushings restricted travel. Once I removed all 32 of them, everything ran smoothly. Mildly annoying, but solvable. The other modification I made was removing the oil pan to expose the gorgeous crankshaft underneath. It would be a pity to leave this detail hidden in the dark. Final Verdict This is likely the nicest Internal Combustion Engine display model you can buy. It’s extremely solid and heavy, mechanically faithful, gorgeous in metal, and endlessly satisfying to both build and watch. It’s also about 500 dollars, so it’s not an impulse buy, nor is it suitable for a kid. The instruction manual misses a great educational opportunity by explaining nothing about the engine's function. For anyone who loves engines or is interested in the intricate operation of machines, this display model kit is a miniature mechanical treat. ... show more

  • Excellent teaching model
I teach a small-engine class in high school where we disassemble and put back together a lawnmower engine while learning about the function and physics of the various parts. Upon completion of that task I was able to get donors to help purchase this for my students. I was impressed with the organization of the parts and the clarity of the directions. It is not complicated to put together but there are a lot of steps and a lot of parts. My students were able to do so with minimal input from me and they learned a lot while doing so. This is a very well-designed model and being able to see the action of the valves and pistons can lead to great learning experiences. We had fun putting it together and having it on display in my classroom has piqued the interest of my students from other classes as well. I was impressed with the quality and workmanship of the parts. ... show more

  • Missing Parts
Hello- I love the kit and I think the quality is great. Unfortunately, it's missing two parts. 1) #40 and the coupler on the generator (part #23) was broke so I cannot fix #50 to it. If we can get this resolved I will happily change this review to 5 stars. Thanks

  • THE BEST MECHANICAL MODEL KIT
I received this purchase exactly on time. The packaging was outstanding. This is the second Teching product I purchased. The first was the Turbo fan CFM56 jet engine that turned out fantastic. It was a lot of hours, but extremely enjoyable to build. Teching instruction manuals are superb because you get a beautiful booklet with plenty of illustrations. Every part is numbered and packed in foam or plastic. You also receive spare screws and fasteners in case you loose some-like I did. I highly recommend this product. ... show more

  • Kinda spendy but my husband did like it. Wish it took longer for him to do though.
Well packaged with extra (dropsey) parts enclosed. Easy to put together. This would be an awesome kit for a father to do together with his young son. Especially if you see an aptitude for mechanical things. Dad could explain the parts as each got assembled.

  • Nice
An amazing model to build. Solid and true to the operating characteristics of an 8 cyl engine. Had to wait a long time for the price to be reasonable. Ours was built in about 20 hours by a 13 year old who never lost sight of finishing the engine to make it operate in unison.
