  • A Beautiful and Ageless Game
Platform For Display: PlayStation Vita
I picked up a Vita bundled with my Playstation 4. I had heard great things about this game, and it was among the first I purchased right off the bat. People talk about the Vita having a lack of games, but I'm not finding that to be the case; there are enough AAA+ titles to keep me occupied for a year, and the Vita only seems to be picking up steam now that the PS4 has become so embedded as the lead console for multiplats and Sony's great exclusives. This, is another great, great Sony exclusive. I played Little Big Planet before, and while I appreciated the creativity and innovation, the gameplay was not really enough to hold my attention. When I learned that the same developers made this title, I was afraid I might have the same reaction. I definitely did not, though. This is not a game purely about collecting and exploring; you can do plenty of that, but it's an adventure game, with surprise, after surprise, after surprise. Tearaway uses every sensor on the Vita, features fun and compelling (and often challenging) gameplay (you will die a lot!), but the key is that they used the *perfect* balance of all of these elements. The rear touch is used just enough (and in a very cool way); the camera is used just enough, so on and so forth. And most importantly, the real innovation here, is that as the game tells you a story, you are also creating your own story. There's something very special and sentimental about this game. Every person's experience of it is like a snowflake; no two are alike. You decorate and define the entire universe in-between immersive gameplay. Probably the most perfect use of any handheld's hardware to date, and definitely one of the best games available on any handheld. If you have a Vita, this is a must-buy! You'll never experience another game like this (unless, of course, there's a sequel; but that could be a while!). Overall, great, great game. I found myself playing this game every morning on the way to work. My only wish is that it could have been just a little bit longer. But, to those who criticize it for being "too short", I can say this: it took me at least twice as long to finish this than it did to finish the latest Call of Duty (Ghosts) campaign; and that was a $60+ game (clocking in at around 4-5 hours)! And I didn't even find all the secrets and collectables; there is definitely replay value... Some of those treasure boxes are extremely tricky to find! It's a pretty long campaign, all things considered, especially for the price. Great value great game. I know I've said it already, but pick this one up! Support great, fun, innovative games, and maybe we'll get more. ... show more

  • If you own a vita you owe it to yourself to play this.
Platform For Display: PlayStation Vita
I have had a Vita since launch and until now I haven't been utterly impressed with all that the vita has to offer. There are some great games for the handheld and the remote play for the PS4 works perfectly, but nothing showcases what the vita can truly do like Tearaway. The game is absolutely beautiful. Graphically it looks like little pieces of paper have been handcrafted and put into the world. The way everything looks and acts is just like paper. The way the water moves. The way bridges sway. It is all done beautifully. The colors of the game are also equally as gorgeous. It uses the vita’s fantastic screen to its advantage with the amount of different colors that the game has to offer. The game uses the gyroscope, microphone, cameras, and both front and rear touch screens throughout the game and really shows you what the vita is capable of. The game itself is not very difficult or very lengthy, but it is still an absolute joy. It took me about 7 hours to get about 75% of the game completed, and I plan on going back to get 100% of the game taken care of. There are enemies, but they are not challenging, and the game is not meant to be an experience with depth in the combat. It is meant to be explored and enjoyed. The most fun I had with the game is when I would go out of the way from the main objective and just see what the world had to offer. Tearaway is a game all vita owners should have. It is beautiful, fun, and uses the vita like no other game on the market. Media Molecule again makes another amazingly unique and fun game that should not be missed by anyone with a vita. ... show more

  • Fun game... but definitely geared toward a younger crowd
Platform For Display: PlayStation Vita
It is a unique game that's for sure. I love the LittleBigPlanet franchise, and was super excited for this game. However, I didn't expect it to be geared so much for kids. Most of the levels are really easy, and there are many activities where you have to do kid things to continue. For example, you have to draw a snowflake, and create a tie for somewhere to wear. You use "virtual" construction paper and create these things. Although a neat concept, it definitely is geared more for kids. My 5-yr old nephew looked over my should and I would let him do the kid stuff. If you are a completest, there is a lot to collect and do. This is where it is geared toward the older crowd. The story is kind of interesting, but overall it is just too kiddish for me. I'm not saying it is a bad game by any means. In fact, the quality and variety are great per the 4-star rating, but I just wanted to make sure those looking to buy it understand what they are getting. ... show more
