Refurbished, yet flawless condition; huge game library; low price
The refurbished OLED Vita that I bought came without any issues whatsoever. It's a great portable console, and the library of games now is huge. It has a touch-screen, as well as a touch-surface on its back. Best of all, the price was low and affordable. Why buy a Refurbished OLED Vita? The original Vita comes with a fantastic OLED screen instead of the newer, Vita Slim which has a good, but cheaper-to-produce LCD screen. When compared side-by-side, its really no contest - the OLED is simply better-looking. However, brand-new OLED Vitas are hard to find, and they are often priced extremely high. Buying a refurbished OLED Vita like I did allowed me to pay only a fraction of the money. What's more, the unit I got was pretty much flawless - I could not discern any sort of previous usage. It came with a charger, a warranty card (the seller I bought it from gave me a 90-day warranty), and easy-to-open packaging. Games - big library; many of which are discounted. The main reason that the Vita is a good portable system is the game library. There are well over 1000 Vita games at the time of this writing. Add in the ability to play PSP games as well as games designed to be played cross-platform - and you truly have a huge selection. Best of all, many of the more popular Vita games can be found at a significant discount. Games like Gravity Rush, Persona 4 Golden, Killzone: Mercenary, Tearaway, and more can be bought for around $20-$25 brand new. Play Japanese games on a US Vita (technically possible, but it can be a pain) One of the best things about the Vita is that it has no inherent region-lock. This means you can play Japanese games on a US Vita. The catch is that DLC, or updates for most Japanese games are available on the Japanese PSN Store exclusively. To make things worse, the Vita can be tied to only one of the stores - not both. This means that bouncing between the US and Japanese PSN stores is quite a chore - just to get updates and DLC. It involves backing up all your data, then resetting your Vita to factory defaults; creating a new account on the other store, and logging into it with the Vita. Then there’s the issue that the Japanese PSN Store may not take your credit card - in which case you have to buy Japanese PSN Cards. While it’s not hard to get these cards - it’s still another step in a long process for getting updates and DLC for Japanese games. Storage The OLED Vita does not have any sort of memory built-in which means buying a memory card is required. The Vita Slim however, does come with 1gb of internal storage, but it's definitely not enough if you want to download games from PSN. Unfortunately, the memory cards for the Vita are quite expensive. For this reason many people buy the 16GB card - its somewhat of a good dollar-per-gigabyte ratio. Most Vita games are around 2gb in size. Some of the larger games are about 3-4gb. Controls Most of the games that I have played work well with the Vita’s controls. Everything feels generally good. However, I do feel that the two analog sticks are a bit looser than what I prefer. It’s not horribly bad - but I think most users would prefer a tighter, firmer analog sticks. Games which require precision aiming (such as FPS games) can take a bit of getting used to - but it only takes a little while to get used to the looseness. Playing Music, Video, Browsing the Internet, etc. The Vita can do almost everything a smartphone can do - just not as well. It's focus is purely on playing games (no surprise) which means everything else takes a backseat. It has a music app, but the functions are basic, and there are no downloadable or automatic playlists - you have to manage it all yourself. I found the sound to be good, but then again there are no controls for bass or treble. Also, the placement of the headphone jack (in the middle of bottom side) makes it difficult to have headphones plugged in while the Vita is in your pocket (the plug to my headphones would stick out uncomfortably). Surfing the web works, but websites that rely heavily on Adobe Flash (which isn't officially supported on the Vita) can be problematic. (The Vita's touch screen however works quite well when surfing the Internet.) And while watching video is generally good, many smartphones these days actually have a higher resolution screen than the Vita (though, the OLED Screen on the Vita definitely makes colors look great). Suffice to say, the Vita won’t replace any modern smartphone for music, video, and web surfing capability. PC Connectivity The Vita uses Sony's free downloadable app called Content Manager Assistant. With this, the Vita can connect to a PC or Mac via USB or wirelessly. Using the wireless connection is surprisingly easy, and I can copy music, video, etc to the Vita with no problems at all. What’s more, the Vita can also stream music and movies that reside on the connected computer itself. Obviously your Wifi has to be fast enough this, but it is possible. I watched several movies on the Vita this way. Battery Life A full charge lasts me about 3-4 consecutive hours, depending on the game. This translates to a full day for me because I generally play in 1 hour sessions, stopping to either eat, watch TV, or do some work. Charging the Vita takes about 2 hours - which isn’t bad. Conclusion Refurbished PS Vitas are a great option for anyone seeking to save some cash and get into the PS Vita library of games. Whether you get the OLED Vita like me, or you get the LCD; either one will give you lots of options to enjoy a wide variety of quality games - most at a significant discount from their original prices.

Great Way to Experience Golden Abyss Again
I bought this renewed PlayStation Vita for one main reason: to play Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and it delivered exactly what I was looking for. The system arrived in good condition, worked right out of the box, and everything functioned as expected. Even years after its release, the Vita is still an impressive handheld with a great screen and comfortable controls. Golden Abyss is an excellent game and made purchasing the Vita worthwhile all by itself. If you're looking to revisit classic Vita exclusives or specifically want to experience Uncharted: Golden Abyss, a renewed Vita is a great option. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy the Vita's exclusive game library.

Great condition but very fragile with a finicky touch screen.
After playing with it pretty heavily I was disappointed to find it wasn't in quite as good condition as I first thought. Everything looks great but the touch screen. The first issue was when playing in the dark I noticed alot of burn out on the screen. It didn't effect the gameplay and it wasn't noticeable at all when color was present. After that I had an issue with the top left corner button on the touch screen being pressed. At first I thought I was pressing it on accident and the button was only present on certain parts of the game so it wasn't an issue. But it became clear it was just reacting to my finger grazing the bottom left corner where the was no button. At times it also doesn't recognize touches to the right of the screen like when you press the power button or close a screen. To make matters worse I found the charger and the touch screen to be very fragile. The picture below is a scratch caused by me picking up the vita with my car keys (a plastic key fob and non metal key chains) briefly. I've picked up my phone and glasses in the same manner millions of times and they've never been scratched. Then the charger was hard to get in and out of the vita like it was getting stuck. After two days I noticed the plug in was coming apart so that's why it would get stuck nothing was holding onto the metal part. In the end though it still does what I want it just sucks I was so happy to see the great condition it came in just to see it fall apart so easily. But the screen does look great despite the burnout and new scratch and the buttons are responsive but none of the games I've played rely heavy on the touch screen so who knows how effective it really is but it gets the job done.

Broken Refurb?
The vita itself was fantastic when it worked, other then being a little uncomfortable to hold forcing me to buy a grip for it, every game I've bought for it has played great and been worth taking a risk on a console that doesn't get much love . HOWEVER, I"m not sure if its cause its a refurb or what, but the vita is extraordinarily finicky on if it wants to work at all, and has been like this since it arrived. I charged it up to 100% before my first use and I've kept the vita at probably 20%-100% charge at all times as I've heard letting them get to 0% is bad on lithium batteries, I almost always play with it on a charger, yet it constantly refuses to boot up or dies in the middle of playing games, then if I can get it to reboot again after 5-10 minutes of trying, it makes me re put in the data again, as if it thought it lost all power, even though on boot up we clearly see its both still fully charged, and recognizes its on a charger. I have no clue whats going on, but its made the system unplayable since while I can live with the frustration of the fact that some times it just doesn't feel like turning on, I can't get over losing hours of play time in RPGs and similar time investment games (dangan ronpa) because the fully powered vita suddenly decides its power just went from 100% to 0% instantly. This is my first time with a vita, so I'd like to think not all vitas are like this and its just because its a refurb, but I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone else to buy a refurb if this is the quality they can expect.

Outstanding ps vita
I've never left a review before but I was so nervous about buying a refurbished ps vita and then so amazed by the quality of the vita I received i had to. I purchased the flawless condition and the thing looks and plays brand new. Not a scratch on it and every button works perfectly?. It arrived when it was supposed to. The only negative I can say is the packaging wasn't the best but it still arrived in perfect shape.

Still in love with my refurbished Vita one year after purchase.
I was a little nervous with this being a refurb but it turned out to be flawless. I've had it for a year now I'm happy to report everything is still perfect. The OLED still looks great and the buttons haven't worn out either. Even the battery is rock solid! I was lucky enough to get mine for quite a bit less a year ago than what it's going for today but the brand new original OLED models are going nowhere but up in price too. It makes sense though since these aren't being made anymore. This still looks to be one of the best buys for a Vita a year later even at the higher price. You can get a new slim model for around this price and they're worth it but I LOVE my original 1100 model and as I said before, mine showed up looking and working like a brand spanking new Vita. This listing is for the PCH-1001 model but if you're lucky like me you might end up with a PCH-1101 with GPS and 3G, not that you would ever probably use it but it's still cool (hotspot your phone and connect Vita with wifi, it's faster anyway). In summary the Vita still rocks despite Sony giving up on it and you should probably add one to your handhelds collection.

OLED is fabulous. Condition of unit is Perfect. My unit came without the USB/proprietary portion of the power cable.
This review is for the Refurbished Edition of the Vita 1000 OLED model. I saved up 10 weeks allowance for this machine and a week before leaving town, finally had enough dough to pull the trigger. I was so excited that I actually did an unboxing video for it. (search Youtube - "Amazon Refurbished Vita 1000 Unboxing" I also knew that it did not come with a memory card or any games so part of the "save up" was for the separate accessory starter kit which comes with a memory card. I also had to save up for a couple of PSN downloads Lemmings and Escape Plan. My unit arrived two days before we left for vacation and was in very, Very, good condition. This baby was almost mint and I would also call it "Perfect". It arrived neatly boxed in the white packaging shown in the user photos. I don't know if these are actually sent back to a "factory" per se, but they are at least fixed and cleaned up by someone who clearly knows what they are doing. The white corrugated box was fabricated in Indiana, so I am fairly certain that these were packaged by someone in the USA. Inside the box I found: One OLED PSVita 1000 in pristine condition. Two basic documentation booklets in French and English. One wall power cable. Two power bricks ? (should have only come with one) Zero/No USB to Vita Proprietary cables required to charge the unit ! You read correctly : TWO power bricks and NO PROPRIETARY USB CABLE required to charge the unit or transfer data. Basically the charging cable comes in three pieces : A, B, and C. I received one A, two B, and zero C. The Vita 1000 arrived with a dead battery, so you can imagine my disappointment when I couldn't even get it to turn on. I'll jump in here and state that Amazon "made it right" and I am happy now with my purchase after getting the cable, but I did not realize how not-so-common these cables are. I remember when the Vita first came out, the shelves at Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Gamestop and Toys R Us were loaded with these cables and other fun Vita accessories. Fast forward a couple of years, and most of these retailers don't stock any of these accessories anymore. Where I live, finding an OEM Sony branded, proprietary Vita1000 USB cable is not quite so easy. Different aftermarket reviews warn about the trials and perils of using a cheap aftermarket cord which may or may not fit properly, and or damage the unit and cause it to not charge correctly. Leaving for vacation in just a couple of days, I didn't want to wait for an Amazon order to arrive when I was out of town, so I called EVERYWHERE. No one within a hundred miles of a major metro east coast market had this thing in stock. Needless to say, I ended up finally finding one place that had an Energizer Car/Home Charger which contained an aftermarket PSP/Vita charging cable on one end. This split cable, while cool in concept, is less than ideal as the PSP pigtail often bumps the Vita screen when I am using the cord to charge or transfer data to the Vita. After some time on the phone, Amazon did reimburse me for the aftermarket cable I was able to find, but the unit should have come with the original OEM cable and it didn't. SOO Frustrating when I opened the box. I think someone in the packaging facility just made an error. I should also add that Amazon offered me several options on how to handle the situation all of which were to my satisfaction, but I just didn't have time to execute any of them until I returned home a week later. The unit itself is great, and just what I wanted. The OLED screen is absolutely Gorgeous. The Green on Lemmings is brilliant, and the deep blacks in Escape Plan contrast amazingly with bright whites. The condition of the item was perfect and had it come with the USB cable which it was supposed to have would have been as advertised. There is a small risk of additional frustration with the Refurb which I experienced first hand, but I am pleased with the final outcome as well as the experience with the Amazon customer service reps. Even with the hassle, I am still happy I got the original model with the nice screen. The newer Vita has a MUCH more common non-proprietary micro-usb charging/ data cable which you may already have. Just keep in mind that you can't just run down to the corner gamestop and pickup a couple extra cables if you lose this unique key component which has since been discontinued with the launch of the Vita 2000. It's a factor to consider, but I still recommend the older one with the nicer screen.

Great condition, works flawlessly
Buying a refurbished Vita on Amazon seems to be hit or miss judging by the reviews here, so I want to provide information on my experience in the hope that it will help others considering purchasing one here. I ordered my Vita from seller electronics101deals. The unit arrived in very good condition, with the only damage being scratches on the silver keychain loops located on the bottom corners of the system and some very minor scratches on the back of the system. The left keychain loop has minor scratches that aren't particularly noticeable, while the right loop has very noticeable marks where the paint was completely removed. I'm not bothered by this at all, but more demanding buyers may be more critical. The scratches on the back of the system are extremely light, and only noticeable if I shine a light on the unit and closely examine it. Other than those flaws, the unit is in excellent shape. The screen is perfect, with not a single scratch or scuff. There is no damage to any of the buttons, the d-pad, or analog sticks and they all work flawlessly. None of the buttons stick, the battery holds a full charge, and outside of the scratches mentioned above the unit is as good as new. A charger cable was so included with the purchase, and it seems to be brand new or at least very lightly used. Hopefully this information helps anyone on the fence about buying a refurbished Vita from Amazon!
