This set comes with everything you need to get started. I'm just in the beginning phases of learning how to tattoo, and I've tried a few different kits now. This kit includes everything you need to get started, including cartridges for lining and shading, wash bottle for foam soap, and full rotary capability with power supply and foot pedal. It took a minute to figure out how to get the rotary power supply set up to the proper settings to run the machine, but once I did, the remaining adjustments and fine-tuning were fairly easy. The gun has an adjustable needle depth, which really helps when you're trying to learn how far to hold the gun to get the right skin depth (1-2 mm). I still don't feel confident working on actual skin, so I'm still just practicing with skins (included) and intermittently shading in some decades-old scars from an old accident to try it out on actual skin. I've been looking for somewhere that does paramedical tattooing in my area for years, and failing to find a reliable provider, decided to take matters into my own hands. I was easily able to mix the ink to a flesh tone (red, blue, yellow, and white) in the included ink cups. The included gloves provided a nice germ barrier after I'd sterilized all required skin areas. Blue foam soap mixed evenly and rinsed cleanly. This machine was easy to handle and allows for steady handling and an even and consistent depth, and the needle didn't hurt any more than professional tattoos. The ink was deposited evenly over the scar tissue area and is healing evenly. The skin trauma was no worse than any of the professional tattoos I've ever gotten, and the healing went by without a hitch, though it was itchier than normal as expected due to the tattoo being done over a keloid scar. Overall, this is a very user-friendly kit for someone who wants to explore tattooing and is an excellent value for the money. Plenty of ink, cartridges, and a 2mm skin (better than a 3 mm for learning appropriate depth) to practice many different styles and applications.

It's easy to be seduced by a low price on a rather complete tattoo kit. But, like so many other things, you get what you pay for. This kit is no exception. The pen in this kit features a proprietary plug to power it, and that's the first problem. It should have an RCA jack at the top of the pen, as 90% of the pens of the market have. So much easier, and so much more universal. The next issue has to do with the foot switch, which was sadly D.O.A. It failed to work, and I have run across this with cheap foot switches before. They're poorly wired, and sometimes a bit of soldering gets them working again. It's unnecessary bother. Then there is the pen. This pen runs very, very rough. It's got vibration (and a lot of it!) throughout it's entire working range. I ran it direct from the power supply (which is a nice little unit, by the way), from 0.1v, all the way to 14.0v. It was rough running and noisy throughout. Even at 8.0v, or 8.5v, I found it hard to work with. The rest of the kit is nice, and you get a nice little power supply with digital readout, all the power cords and cables needed to run, a bag of ink caps, a single pair of black latex exam gloves, a roll of wide black grip tape, a plastic spray bottle, a set of practice inks, a small bottle of blue soap, a box of tattoo needle cartridges, a single sheet of good quality practice skin, two sheets of tattoo design thermal transfer paper, and an instruction booklet. I would like this if the pen was better, but it's not. It really runs rough, and it's hard to look past that, even for a beginner. It can make tattoo practice discouraging, and I don't suggest it for them. Good price, questionable quality control.

I apprenticed as a tattoo artist back in the 90s, the old-fashioned way. I learned hands-on under the watchful eye of an extremely talented pro tattoo artist in a private studio. I never used a starter kit in my life. I have only worked with professional grade tattoo machines, so I have nothing to compare this starter kit with. For someone who is not sure if they want to pursue tattooing as a career choice, this is a perfect way to "test the waters". The kit is simple but includes everything needed to practice the set up and feel of a tattoo machine (on fake skin at least). No intimidation involved. Decent little start up kit.

This is the first time I've ever tried tattooing and as of yet, will not do any real people! But it's a fun learning curve and this kit had everything I needed to get started. I don't have any experience to compare to but without a ton of practice I have been able to get some decent looking tattoos on the fake skin they provided. I love the fact that I was able to get everything in one kit to try it out.

For a tattoo machine in this price range, it could be better. I’ve tried nicer ones for the same price. It’s not terrible, and might be a good choice for a beginner, but it’s obviously not the best out there.
