    • Quality, Service, and Easy Installation!
I am using this heater for a shop sink. There are some reviews, like usual, that give this product some false information. I will start with the water connections. The connections are 1/2 npt, which is the exact same as found on 1/2 galvanized pipe and your common faucets! Nothing strange or hard to find concerning these! On the hot outlet side there is a restrictor which causes you to possibly have to buy a 1/2 brass coupling and nipple, but there are hoses being sold for these that will work, but they are not as common as the 3/4 water heater hose. One of the top reviewers discussed this already and even posted a picture of how he used the coupling and nipple. The electrical connections could not be any simpler either! White, Black, Green. On most 220 water heaters You have 2 hots and a ground. (There is no neutral on most 220 heaters.) 10/2 wire has black, white, and a naked ground wire. The black and white will be your hots. The naked goes to ground and your green ground wire. Most any half decent diyer can handle this installation with ease! They really could not have made it much simpler to install, but you have to remember when reading any review on anything, there will be several reviewers who blame the product on their own stupidity. If you can't figure out how to hook this up, then you will not have any better luck with any other heater. You better just get plumber and give up your diy career. I am very satisfied with the heat! I am using it for a sink, but I could also use this for a shower. I know it says it isn't for showers, but I really think it would work just fine for most people. I do want to mention that right now it is in the 80's here, so it is possible when it gets colder it probably won't be as hot as it is now, but for a sink in a shop it will still be better than the ice cold water I had last winter. The unit itself seems very sturdy and well made! It does not look cheap at all, like I thought it might. The wires are copper and it has a nice sturdy feel. It is heavier than I expected, not light weight and fragile like I was worried it could be. I am really impressed with this unit. Looking through reviews and seeing how the company responds to customers also gives me a good feeling! They seem like they really want to stand behind their product, which is becoming rarer and rarer here in the states now days. My conclusion is that this is an easy to install heater. It appears to be very good quality. The customer service appears to be there. It is one of the least expensive heaters out there and with better reviews than the more expensive ones! At present I can not speak for longevity, but from everything I have seen, I excpect to get my money's worth out of this product! ... show more

I used the instant hot in line with self priming recirculating pump purchased on Amazon and it works very well. Once the water is above the inlet I turn on the pump and heater. It takes 2.5 hours to fill 600 gallons.

Aside from the cheap quality of the inlet and outlet connections (fragile!) this thing can barely get to 105 degrees at a trickle. If you run any cold water with it you get no heat. With only the hot water on it runs at about .25 gpm. The unit has been removed and is in the returns process.

    • Powerful heater!
Edit: after further analysis, I discovered that our ground water was so warm(84 degrees) that it was shutting the heater off because it was set too high! Turned the temp down and now works great again! The company reached out but it wasn't clear to them or us what the issue was. It took me a bit but the heater eventually flashed an error code about the water being TOO hot. This really is an amazing little heater. We use this as a whole house water heater because we only take one shower at a time. Our tank water heater wouldn't let us take more than one shower at a time anyway. This product worked amazingly for us in Southwest Florida. Very hot water. The problem is, it stopped working after only 3and a half months. Now we are stuck with cold water. ... show more

I bought this ECO65 water heater when my 80 gal. water heater started leaking, because it was the highest wattage unit at the best price point (about $100) I found that didn't require upgrading the existing wiring to handle the increased current. My incoming water temp currently (mid-September in CT) is 68℉ and if it doesn't drop much lower this will be adequate for my needs, but if it drops significantly as winter sets in, I will need to upgrade to a more powerful unit. As for this unit it has a few deficiencies. For one, the 1/2" NPT connections don't have any place to use a wrench making tightening these connections a risky proposition (which may be the cause of the reviews claiming it leaked right after installing). Also, their quality is suspect, as it took multiple attempts using BOTH Teflon tape and pipe dope to get the 3/4" to 1/2" reducing bushing to stop leaking, but this may also be due to the fact that I didn't dare tighten them anymore without the use of a wrench to hold the water heater fitting while tightening the reducing bushing. Now about the "Works adequately but not as advertised!" headline. It is not possible to achieve the temp. rise at the flow rates advertised. I found this formula online: 2.47 x 1gal x 1℉ x 1 hr = Watts. Using it, the most you could hope for at a 1.5gpm flow rate is: 6500/(2.47x90gph)=29.2℉, where 6500 is the total power available and 90gph = 1.5gpmx60min(1hr). As you can see in the attached copy of their flow rates at various inlet temperatures, they claim a 35℉ temp rise which is more than 5℉ higher than what is mathematically achievable with only 6500 watts of input power. The accompanying instruction manual is even worse claiming a 38℉ temp rise at 1.5gpm. To achieve that would require over 8400 watts. Overall an adequate unit but some deceptive advertising. Know what you need and what is possible before you purchase one and expect it to meet the advertised specifications. ... show more
